Why don't birds fly to the moon?
it's been a hard day at work so I was unprepared when my male son arrived home from school henceforth, and proceeded with the following quiz which apparently had been assigned by his teacher:

Why do birds not fly to the moon?

Instead of racking my brain for the better part of the next 12 hours, I figured I'd outsource the science to the geniuses on this forum.

If I was a bird, I know that I would absolutely love to fly to the moon so its remains unclear why the actual birds feel differently.

Re: Why don't birds fly to the moon?
Birds are not capable of flying to the moon because the moon is too far away for them to reach. It is about 238,855 miles (384,400 kilometers) away from the Earth, and birds do not have the physical ability or technology to fly that far. The atmosphere of the moon is also too thin to support the flight of birds. In addition, the extreme temperatures and lack of a breathable atmosphere on the moon would be inhospitable to birds.

All lies, and bad science.

1. Space is vacuum. Birds keep going and going requiring no extra energy. Inertia. In space birds can go infinite distance.

2. The atmosphere on the moon has nothing to do with birds attempting to fly to the moon.

3. As birds leave the atmosphere the birds pull a bubble of breathable earth gas with them.

That's exactly the mystery I'm thinking any serious bird would want answered.

In reality, the moon is only roughly 3000 miles above our flat and stationary Earth. But the moon is made of plasma, so it is not exactly a good place to perch…

Excessive flapping tends to heat up little bird bodies quite well. Additionally, birds are great at withstanding the cold.

Re: Why don't birds fly to the moon?
An international team of ornithologists conducted a study on a group of geese, and found that they were able to fly to the moon and back without difficulty, thanks to their powerful wings and homing instincts.
