Re: The World is only 7000 years old
The problem I have with you religious wackos is that you believe your God is exclusive to your religion and your's only. How can you believe words from a book confined to this planet? If a God does exist and I believe it does, I imagine the words of this God are far greater and outreaching then only planet earth.

When one considers the Drake Equation to justify life on other planets, one can realize the potential for life in the vast expanse of the universe. By many Christians beliefs, if you do not proclaim to accept Jesus as the Son of God and your personal savior, you will burn in hell. Does that apply to a being on a distant planet that has never read our bible?

God is far greater then the sum of Christianity or Islam or Catholicism. Once some of you realize this, then you will finally experience what it is like to be free.

Re: The World is only 7000 years old
I'm sometimes stunned how people can think the world/universe is only 7000 years old....

The scientific proof is everywhere. Fossils? Geology? Carbon Dating?

Just looking through a telescope proves that the whole universe is billions of years old. Light takes millions of years to reach us from most stars. If the universe is 7000 years old, How can we see the stars?

So is the distance of the stars calculation based on the speed of light, or is the age of the stars based on that? Everything we know is based on assumptions that may not prove to be true.

It doesn't matter which - age or distance.

I will try to simplify this becasue people do not understand what I am trying to say.

If light-speed is constant through a Vaccuum (I have no reason to believe otherwise), then we can calculate the time and distance from stars to our planet.

If we use red-shifting to determine the distance of an example star, say 1,000,000 (1 million) Light Years, then it is a fact that the light travelling from that star takes 1 million years to reach our planet.

If we can see this star then 1 million years has passed in our universe beacause the light was created 1 million years ago, the travels through space for 1 million years and we see the image of a star today.

This only proves that the universe is this old, not the planet.
 Quoting: Clavain

But if they were created at the same time in space and are travelling away then the light will always have been here. Also, you can't calculate distance with only C

Well done on getting the degree (soon). Something I would like to do myself. Can you explain then how you verify a 4.6 billion year old earth?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 394818

In 3 words: Radioactive Dating Methods:

[link to hypertextbook.com]

The Earth is approximately 4.55 billion years old -- an inconceivable age when one considers that the human being we would recognize as modern man has existed for less than 50,000 years.

The oldest fossils of indisputable age found in Australia and South Africa suggest that life (blue-green algae) existed between 3.46 and 3.47 billion years ago. Radioactive dating methods give an age of up to 3.9 billion years for rocks found on Earth. It only stands to reason that the Earth must be as old as anything on it. It was from these numbers that estimates for the age of the Earth itself were formed.

In 1956, Clair Cameron Patterson of the California Institute of Technology, proposed the estimate for the Earth's age which today remains the accepted value. He calculated the Earth as having been formed some 4.55 billion years ago (plus or minus 0.07 billion years). Patterson worked under the assumption that the Earth and the entire solar system were the same age. He argued that some meteorites were formed 4.56 billion years ago and their debris constituted the Earth. The Earth continued to grow through the bombardment of small, solid planetary bodies until about 4.4 billion years ago when the Earth began to retain its atmosphere and create its core.

Patterson used the uranium-lead clock and samples of lead isotopes found on the Earth and in meteorites to come to this conclusion. The radioactive decay of uranium 238 into lead 206 and uranium 235 into lead 207 is frequently used to date rocks through the analysis of the daughter product, lead, of the parent, uranium. Similar methods dated samples of rock from the moon at a similar age of about 4.6 billion years.

The years that followed Patterson's work brought great change to the earth sciences with the beginnings of studies of plate tectonics. Knowledge of the Earth's past has changed and developed with time. Today it is less certain how the Earth was formed than when it was form

It has to be, how can a piece of rock or a skull be descibed as a 'million years old' or whatver, it would be less than dust by that time span.... discuss please.

If you had any understanding of geology, you wouldn't be asking such ridiculously stupid questions.

Do yourself and the world a favour:

Go to the library, read lots and lots of books on various scientific topics, including geology. Do this for a few months, preferably years. Then you will be able to answer your own silly question.

Carbon dating is a human creation and therefore flawed. They even argue over the dating of the Turin shroud now,

And the universe may be billions of years in existence, because time is of no consequence to the Creator, Earth is 7000 years old. I ask again, rocks cannot last for a million or a billion years, no way.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 394818

If they were created at the same time, lets for example say it was 7000 years ago - all the stars would be only 7000 light years away. If they were created at different distances, which they are, then the light would still have to travel the distance from when it started shining (created). Now if it was created and started shining from 100,000 light years away, then it would still not be seen from our planet after 7000 years beacause the light hasn't reached us yet.

I agree that you cannot measure distance with only c. I didn't say that.

Sure, the earth is billions of years old, and soon, 12 foot tall aliens will be landing on earth, to tell you they are extraterrestrials.
Whatever it takes to prove there is no God.
If one is blind, then they cannot see. Words do not create light for the blind, only the Spirit can do that.
If one is adamantly against the truth, no amount of light will illuminate them.
In an absolute, there is no way one can prove the age of the earth, one way or another. I can't prove it is 6983 years old, but I can't prove without an absolute doubt, that the earth is 20 billion years old either. It is what somebody takes faith in.
It is simply a choice of the mind.
When you die, you will go where you choose to follow.

So what you're saying is: Nothing can be absolutely proven.

According to some of the oldest writings known to men, there were people who thought just as you pretend to.

The earth split open, water gushed out and all of them were killed horribly.

There's a lesson there for you personally.

If this is meant to scare me, I can assure you it didn't work. I believe the flood happened, but not on such a grand scale, plus the Ark is nonsense (unless they kept DNA somehow with lost ancient knowledge). I believe it happened and I believe it killed a lot of people. But innocent people died too, believers died too.

When was the last time you heard of unexplainable things happening to 'bad' people? Probably this flood was the last time.

In my experience, it seems the 'bad' people dont get any worse treatment throughout their life than the devote belivers who do everything 'right'

I want to do what is best for the Species of Humans that are my family. I want to be a moral person who cares for others, but I don't need a reward like eternal life to be good. I think it is the end when my brain dies. But I am not sad, I am happy becasue I saw this life and was conscious of myself. I was and I am.

I doubt you'll feel the same way when you're about to die.
The one thing they don't tell you and the one thing always forgotten is that regardless of whether or not you'll be back... death is the most awful thing one can ever experience.

You say my comments do not scare you. That's fine. Similar comments did not scare people in Noah's time, but you can rest assured that when they heard the Earth's crust ripping, when it all wouldn't stop, and when they saw the sky end -- in a matter of moments -- they experienced the kind of fear not often repeated.

It's a kind of fear so potent -- it is risidual. It survives without the memory of death because death itself is not retained in the ethereal engram.

If I were you I would pray that my aloof and irreverent denials, my determined and deliberate opposition, my wicked suppression of truth -- does not result in a very sudden and very present reminder of a past trauma, because there aren't many effective ways to describe what I mean.

Please do not tell me how I will feel before I die. I think I would be inhuman if I did not feel human emotions. Yes I feel fear of dying, but no fear of Hell, or excitement of Heaven. I accept that it is the end when I die, for all things.

If you can call me all those things, Wicked, aloof and opposed then what are you? Yes I am standing by my beliefs, I am looking at the facts laid out before me and I am choosing the most acceptable to me. I am trying to explain how my thinking works to you all. And I think I am right.

I'm telling you how you will feel when you die because it is the way others who have spoken like you felt before they were ended.

You have a callous and ugly policy which amounts to nothimg more than rejection of truth.

This why your death will be as horrible as can be arranged.

You must be a sad person inside to wish such horror on a person.

No. I'm just a person who believes in justice.

And what, exactly, did I do wrong that deserves death in the most horrible way as can be arranged? Do all non-believers deserve this fate?

You are reasonably intelligent and yet you choose to ignore all that is obvious in favor of abject lies and untruths. Furthermore, you actively deploy these untruths and you do it in such a way so as to appear reasonable. This is most despicable.

You deny people the opportunity to return to the father.

There can only be adverse consquences for you.

'return to the father' so he is not here with you? the contradictions within your religion leave me unable to believe.

You want me to be 'ended' and you think it will be in a rather bad way.

What happened to your 'Love thy neighbour' Commandment?

Dont you see that religions seperate the species of Homo Sapiens? It is the main cause of wars and death, yet you call it a beautiful thing.
 Quoting: Clavain

I'm not one who hangs on every word of the dogma you attribute to what you've called Christianity.

My understanding is a lot less complicated.

There exists a virus that must be quarantined.

In order for people to avoid being mistaken as part of the offending phenomenon they must observe the will of the father.

They can't do that if they don't believe he exists and they won't belive he exists if you convince them he doesn't, so all you're really doing is preventing the children from returning to their father.

This is why you must be ended.

The striking me as most alarming in all of this is your incessant propensity to lie. Don't you possess a concscience?

It is when I consider the reality that individuas like you are at large, that they educate children, that they create broadcast material... any doubts about the validity of reorts about a great Satan vanish.

You should be happy there is no God. Because if there was odds are you would be worshiping the wrong one, and in his fit of jealous rage he would send you to hell to be tortured forever.

Because he loves you.

Remember, GOD needs MONEY.

However if you object to the speed of light (c), then I suggest you cash out of our society, and bang some rocks together on some tech denying commune.

Clearly your rejection of medicine and technology doesn't stop a hypocrite like yourself from using them.

I'm laughing at your "morality" while you use the tools of "Satan".

Actually I do object to the speed of light - it is no longer a constant but can be variable.

"Researchers in Switzerland have succeeded in breaking the cosmic speed limit by getting light to go faster than, well, light."

[link to www.livescience.com]

Also the speed of light may be slowing down?

"Evidence suggesting that the velocity of light, c, has been slowing down throughout history was first reported by Barry Setterfield and Trevor Norman for some years. (2) Now two physicists-Dr. Joao Magueijo, a Royal Society research fellow at Imperial College, London, and Dr. Andreas Albrecht, of the University of California at Davis-are proposing that, immediately after the universe was born, the speed of light may have been far faster than its present-day value of 186,000 miles per second. (3 )They now believe that it has been slowing down ever since. The effects predicted by their theory are to be published in the prestigious scientific journal, Physical Review. "If it's true, it would be a very big leap forward that will affect our perception of the universe and much of theoretical physics," said Dr. Magueijo."

Let's face it - we really know NOTHING and our science is based in pure conjecture where everyone tries to mould the evidence to fit their theories. This has been going on for centuries, millenia and our scientists today are no different.

Carbon dating is a human creation and therefore flawed. They even argue over the dating of the Turin shroud now,

You say carbon dating is a human creation - so it is flawed. BUT the bible was a human creation - so it is also flawed....

Re: The World is only 7000 years old
That's BS because our Hopi Prophecy tablets have been carbon dated between 50 & 60 thousand years old.
The earth is billions of years old.

We knew before scientist checked, how old those tablets are.
The Bible is a fucking joke and a half.

Re: The World is only 7000 years old
Those that believe this shit are the wingnuts that brainwashed me for almost 20 years while growing up attending a strict, albeit, hypocritical southern baptist school.

It took me along time to rid myself of the hold these wackos had on me.

At 29 I decided to go back to school last year and am a year away from graduating with a Geology degree.

I now have no doubt that the Earth is at least 4.6 billion years old. Science has taught me this and has allowed me to learn the methods to verify it.

You religious wackos took half of my life away from me, for that I will always be resentful.

I'm just lucky I woke up and discovered the truth before it was to late, unlike some around these here parts.

Re: The World is only 7000 years old
What, you dipshits think God is so trivial and short sighted as to have to resort to easily understandable magic tricks?

Yes i'm sure God is so oversimplified and easily understood that he would just be like, POOF, here's the earth...POOF, here's the sun...POOF, here's two people.

Why is it so hard for religion to find its place in the universe and fit in with everything else. Why does everything goat herders said 2000 years ago have to be takin at such an absolute truth?

This shit about science nullfiying God has got to stop. There's people that believe in God that accept that his work began billions of years ago. There's scientists that believe the Earth is billions of years old and still accept and believe in God.

How can God have the power to create Earth 7000 years ago, yet it's completely beyond his power to create the universe 13 billion years ago. Are you people so stuck up your own asses that you use the Lord's name to push your elitest ideals that the only chunk of time that matters is the time that humans have been keeping records and telling exaggerated stories?

I'm sure God would love to have 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% of his creation shit on by christians and catholics who can't find it in their soul to be accepting of others. I'm sure this is exactly what God intended.

The greatest sign there is a God is that things have lasted for billions of years on end.
