I hope they don't die. I've read that they're both acid-loving. lol

Has anyone else ever tried this before? I did it with white vinegar a while back and the gardenia spruced up a bit. I read that the vinegar lets them absorb the iron, or something.
I figured the apple cider would be better for them than the distilled vinegar. But WTF do I know?

The gardenia looks like it may actually have buds that may go to fruition. Instead of falling off. It wasn't broke.... maybe I should have left it alone.

I don't drink coffee anymore, but when I can get them, I put coffee grounds down there. Lots and lots of tea leaves (whole tea), no bagged crap. Crushed up eggshells. I feed the worms. lol

You really think I should flood them? I don't.

Hey, ET, I always love to see you. Yes, supposedly roses like coffee. My rose has a bloom right now coming up. Whoopee!! (I thought I killed it by ignoring it a couple years ago.)

Do you think tea leaves are as good? They seem to love them.
It's all worm food really. The worms do all the work.

you can get an aquarium ph tester and test and adjust accordingly before you water, about 6.5 is around what you want, for well drained or hydroponic you can go as low as 6.

The idea of 'more is better' is a dangerous one when it comes to your garden. Vinegar is what you use to pour on weeds when you really, really don't want them to come back. Excellent drainage won't save you if you miscalculate. The above recipe you have been given would be a bit strong for most soils but in your case, it sounds about right. Increase the vinegar at your peril - or the poor plant's peril. It wouldn't hurt you to discuss this matter with a local nursery; that doesn't have to cost you anything.

to test the water in the jug before you water, at the proper ph the plant food will be more readily absorbed. there are also soil testers but they are more expensive.

I live in South Florida. My local nursery would look at me like I was crazy if I asked them for help. If they knew English.

Anyhow, I only put a gallon of water. They will be fine, I'm sure. I still think it's good for them. (I just checked, they're not dead yet) LOL

Opening up.... so perhaps the vinegar wasn't such a bad idea after all. There's buds all over this plant!

Thing is, I can't smell it yet. Gardenias.... you can smell them a mile away. Nothing yet.

For my roses, I put banana skins in the dirt around the base. Bury them in. This will give them potassium. Not sure about the vinegar and ph thou. I do put coffee grounds and eggshells in my garden also.

Well, not recently, but banana skins are most definitely in there! I don't bury them. I let the worms and the bugs do that.

My gardenia was planted just last year as a baby. Right now, it's about 5 ft. tall.

I just lay the banana skins on top. Tea leaves....They will be gone soon enough.

Good answer. Funny, too.

I was trying to convince myself that it was ok to use Miracle Gro. I don't use it.

Thanks for your observation. My plasts are doing really well in their little domains. I won't even tell you what I do, cuz you'll go huh?

No commercial anything. Lots of hope.

We all need hope.

I have a gardenia bud absolutely exploding!
Another one behind it.

I'm pretty sure that I'll do the apple cider viegar again.

Just sayin.
