If US has new approach, Iran would respond: Ahmadinejad:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in an interview aired on US television Monday that if the United States adopted a genuinely new approach to his country Tehran would respond in a positive way.
"Today, we see new behavior shown by the United States and the officials of the United States. My question is, is such behavior rooted in a new approach?" the president told NBC in a rare interview with a US broadcaster.
If so, "we will be facing a new situation and the response by the Iranian people will be a positive one," he said, speaking from Tehran.

Snub for Iran eases nuclear crisis:
After taking a well-trodden route peppered with the familiar rhetoric of the Islamic revolution of 1979, Rafsanjani came to the point. The senior cleric who has seen many ups and downs in US-Iran relations over the past three decades, urged, "With patience and perseverance, let us give this negotiation a chance. Every time the situation is about to improve, these Western hardliners and radicals begin their diversionary ploys, which only shows some powers cannot bear to see peace in the region."
Rafsanjani summed up, "Iran is ready to negotiate. The aim of the talks is also clear ... Staging military maneuvers and holding talks from a distance cannot resolve issues. Do not try to invent pretexts. Be patient and let wise people sit down and talk to resolve the problems."

End 'state of war' with Israel, say Syria's US envoy:
Syria's ambassador to the United States on Monday called for ending the "state of war" with longtime foe Israel, weeks after the two states announced the launch of indirect peace talks.

Syrian president to visit Tehran to discuss nuclear issue: French MP:
The chief of France-Syria friendship association in French parliament said that Bashar al-Assad’s visit to Tehran is intended in studying Iran’s nuclear program within the framework of international laws.
London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat paper quoted the French parliamentarian who was ending his trip to Damascus by a press conference that the Syrian president would visit Tehran to discuss the nuclear issue under international laws.
Al-Assad will have a trip to Tehran which according to trips takes place before the French president Nicolas Sarkozy pay a visit to Syria.

UN report: At 45%, Gaza unemployment is highest in the world:
The unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip now stands at 45 percent, higher than anywhere else in the world, according to a report released recently by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration.
Nearly 95 percent of all factories operating in Gaza have been closed down in recent years, says the report. Israel's year long economic blockade on the coastal territory and repeated closure of electricity and fuel sources have also contributed to the humanitarian crisis.

Abbas vows to dismantle PA if Israel frees Hamas prisoners for Shalit:
If Israel releases Hamas members of the Palestinian parliament as part of a deal for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, PA President Mahmoud Abbas will dismantle the Palestinian Authority, Abbas warned Israel last week.
Abbas sent the warning to GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Gadi Shamni via Hussein al-Sheikh, head of the PA's civil affairs department, who is responsible for coordinating with Israel on anything involving the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Al-Sheikh, who told Shamni that this was a "personal message" from Abbas, stressed that the Palestinian leader did not speak merely of "resigning," but of "dismantling the PA."

Hamas threatens to toughen demands in Schalit release deal:
Hamas has threatened to toughen its stance for the release of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit if Israel does not respond to the group's demand to release 450 prisoners.
Hamas representative in Lebanon, Usama Hamdan, told London-based daily Al Hayat on Wednesday that should Israel fail to respond to its current demand to release 450 prisoners, Hamas would then ask for 1000 prisoners.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Hamas and Egyptian officials on the topic of Schalit's release continue in Cairo.

Olmert rules out peace deal before end of year:
