US eyes diplomatic solution to Iran nuclear programme: US envoy
The United States will seek a diplomatic solution with Iran over its controversial nuclear plan, a top US envoy said Friday, as he urged Tehran to play "a responsible role" among Muslim nations.
"The United States is committed to securing a diplomatic resolution with Iran on the nuclear issue," Sada Cumber, US special envoy to the 57-member Organisation of The Islamic Conference (OIC) told reporters.

Iran news agency: UN nuclear inspectors to arrive Monday
Two inspectors of the United Nations nuclear watchdog will arrive in Tehran on Monday, ISNA news agency quoted Sunday an unnamed official as saying.
The inspectors are scheduled to arrive Monday to follow up last week's negotiations between International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief inspector Oli Heinonen and the head of the Iranian Atomic Organization, Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh, ISNA reported.

I have forewarned of the coming war more times than not. Though G-D spared us war with Russia, that is nothing as the coming war is still approaching.
Here is my weekly intelligence report to war as it is coming fast!
What about the great armada? The U.S. has a large number of naval forces in and around the Persian gulf ready to strike at Iran. The media had speculated on these up until a week ago and now dead silence. Further, Iraq has been extremely calm, but why do we still have 140,000 troops there? Because of Iran and the coming war.
The silence on the issue of Iran in the Israeli media and government over the past few weeks has been deafening. One would assume that no one is willing to talk about Iran because it is now a non-issue. However, that is not the case. Instead, the silence has come in an effort to surprise Iran. The media is being censored and the government has been restricted on comments as the time is coming for the attack.
The Hezbollah reported today that they are prepared to face 5 divisions or more likely brigades that are sitting on the Israeli border ready to go into Lebanon. This is accurate and in fact Israel is trying to lure the Hezbollah into an attack in order to justify what will come next. That next event is the true attack on Iran. Israel has its roops in place due to the war.

Iran’s Ticking Bomb
Last week, the pistachio nut dropped. With adequate missile defense technology, I had questioned the necessity of a preemptive attack on Iran’s nuclear capability. Uncomfortable as living with an Iranian bomb would be, I thought, better to defend ourselves than attack first. And why should Israel – alone – take such risks?
Overflowing with dire predictions and warnings, pleas for negotiations and economic and diplomatic sanctions, the media, politicians and ‘experts’ left me confused. Why is an Iranian nuclear arsenal ‘intolerable?’ I wondered, until I attended a press briefing by Dr. Shmuel Bar, Director of Studies at The Institute for Policy and Strategy, IDC’s think tank in Herzilya, Israel. Bar, an expert on Iran and Islam, with over 30 years experience working with Israel’s intelligence community is clear, articulate and convincing.
Forget everything you know about reason and logic when it comes to Iran. Forget history and experience. There is a little man in Teheran who communicates directly and indirectly with “the hidden Imam” – a mystical messianic-like figure who is waiting to be revealed. And his little friend believes he can do it with the push of a button.
“It’s not only, or necessarily Ahmadinejad who speaks to the Imam,” Bar says. “There’s a whole new second generation elite of the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) who indoctrinate their troops with the belief in the need to hasten the advent of the Imam. This has also spread to Hizballah in Lebanon.”
As Iran achieves nuclear weapons capability, the world is – or should be – shaking in its shoes. The problem is not only the proliferation of WMDs – access to such weapons has become easier since Pakistani and North Korean peddlers have opened the market. Nor is the problem only French, German and Russian companies who supply Iran with equipment and technology to build nuclear reactors; they’re in business!
The problem is the little man in Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his followers.
“He’s not Hitler,” Bar insists. “He represents a larger elite and wider trend. Hence he is more dangerous, since even if he were to disappear through elections or other means, the trend he represents would remain strong. This is in contrast to Hitler who – had he disappeared even as late as 1939 there is great doubt that WWII would have occurred.”
The idea of a “hidden Imam” is a fundamental belief in the Shiite version of Islam, dominant in Iran. As Bar explains, when the “hidden Imam” reappears, the righteous will be rewarded and the wicked punished – a not uncommon religious theme. But there’s an added twist.
Shiites believe that this messianic figure is hiding because he’s threatened by enemies and can only be liberated by someone who is not afraid to act decisively against the enemy and initiate a war.
An apocalyptic confrontation could take the form of a nuclear attack, precipitating a clash of civilizations which would usher in the final stage of Muslim redemption and bring about the conversion of the entire world to Islam. As Bar explains: “The need for the Imam’s loyalists to have the strategic upper hand is a necessary condition for his appearance. The upper hand can only be achieved through possession of nuclear weapons.”
Traditionally, only the highest Muslim spiritual leaders claimed to understand, let alone delve into this murky realm of the “hidden Imam.” That a simple politician, with little knowledge and less sense could contact the “hidden Imam” is theologically absurd, verging on blasphemy. But he rules the country – and his finger is one of those on the button. Bar argues that the “balance between the Supreme Leader and the President is no longer clearly in the favor of the former, as it was with Ahmadinejad’s predecessors. Now, the President has the direct support of the Revolutionary Guard – the regime’s mainstay.”
“Some Iran experts believe that Ahmadinejad is irrelevant, since real power is in the hands of pragmatic clerics. This ignores the fundamental shift that has occurred in Iran since Ahmadinjead’s election. Ahmadjinejad and the Revolutionary Guards represent a powerful force which can crush domestic opposition. This has changed the fundamental balance of power in Iran. Ahmadinejad’s ability to influence issues of national security goes far beyond any of his predecessors, as he proved in his manipulation of the nuclear issue and relations with the West – frequently against the wishes of the Supreme Leader. The faction that takes credit for providing Iran with a military nuclear capability will grow even stronger as Iran comes closer to that goal. That’s why sanctions won’t work; they can’t work.”
“The problem isn’t that Ahmadinejad will unilaterally give an order to attack, but the IRGC’s policy of escalation and brinkmanship could push the entire region to the brink of a nuclear confrontation, and then leave no choice but to attack. Most wars were not premeditated but rather developed out of bad estimates of the situation and what the response would be from the other side.”
Developing nuclear weapons, according to Bar, has a persuasive Iranian logic: If the West strikes first, it will vindicate Ahmadinejad’s version of the West as evil; if the West does not act, he can claim this justifies his aggressive stand and weakens any domestic opposition. Moreover, Ahmadineajad surmises, if the West invaded Iraq because it threatened to develop nuclear capability (WMD), acquiring such weapons would deter the West from attacking.
Theologically and practically, therefore, acquiring nuclear weapons and using them, not only against Israel and Western infidels, but Sunni opponents as well, has its own internal momentum. The more the West hesitates to act, the stronger and more provocative Ahmadinejad and the “Jacobin” elite he represents become. Impelled by theological delusions, his willingness to risk war is not deterred by opposition; just the reverse. He can become the ultimate Muslim Hero, defying the “hidden Imam’s” enemies and bringing the Messianic Age. This is the jihadist dream, a ‘holy war’ to end all war, a world bathed in blood.
The immediate danger, Bar emphasizes, is that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, other countries in the region would soon follow. Without a stable chain of command and no structure of rational decision-making – a condition which rendered the Cold War manageable – the situation would become extremely volatile.
WMD in the hands of homicidal, apocalyptic, insecure and irrational leaders, with populations for whom nuclear weapons would be perceived as a ticket to the club of superpowers, threatens the entire world. “This does not only have to happen intentionally,” Bar notes. “The very nature of brinkmanship in the Middle East can create an escalation of nuclear crisis that can quickly spiral out of control.” There’s no “hot-line” phone; there’s no line!
This isn’t about Iran. No one wants to watch the destruction of a viable country and its culture. The alternatives, however, are everyone’s worst nightmare – including Arab countries who are directly threatened by Iran.
The Iranian threat is not just against Israel, but the entire region and beyond.
Current sanctions on Iran have little effect, Bar observes, since they don’t affect the people who run the economy, or those who might be able to act. Diplomacy is, well, for diplomats.
Deterrent missile technology is not foolproof. A single missile could kill tens of thousands of Israelis. That risk is unacceptable. Even if Israel or the United States could eliminate much of Iran in a second strike, that would be a Pyrrhic victory. And, even if Iran decides not to use its nuclear weapons, it can export them to terrorist organizations and regimes throughout the world. Given an extremely volatile political situation, Iranian nuclear weapons could easily ignite a world-wide catastrophe.
That Western leaders cannot agree on what to do about the crisis has led to paralysis and naiveté. Supported by Russia, China and the 120-member bloc of so-called “non-aligned nations” in the UN, Iran has virtually ignored criticism – and why not? It gains with every moment of doubt and hesitation, every gesture of appeasement and self-defeat.
That’s why, Bar warns, if all else fails Israel will have to act – alone or in consort with others. There’s simply no alternative. Then, pray, for all of us, that we have done the right thing.

Military man I am glad you are here so I can ask you a question. I saw an article yesterday that stated Hezbollah had info that Israel was going to launch a major attack in a few days. Do you know anything about that? Also today Olmert cancelled a tour of the North which would be where the war with Hezbollah and Syria would go down and he cited health problems as the reason. I find that strange. |

There are several different plans in place for Israel to attack or counter-attack the Hezbollah and/or Iran, all contingent upon different variables and scenarios. The window of opportunity for any attack has opened in the last few days and will remain until January. Israel is now prepared and fully operational on any plan to take on Iran and the Hezbollah. Of course Israel wants it on their terms, choosing the time and place for battle. But the Hezbollah are promising a large attack in revenge still for their leader's death. Their (hezbollah) words seem to indicate very soon. Iran's leader says a feast for the destruction of Israel will be held soon. These words indicate that Iran and the Hezbollah are prepared for an operation too. Whom makes the first move is in question. As a bettng man, I think Israel will make the first move, but that is a question cannot answer for other reasons.
DID ANYONE NOTICE THE MOVE OF FORCES IN ISRAEL FROM ONE BASE TO A NEW ONE IN THE NEGEV? THAT WAS A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE TROOPS and AIRCRAFT TO A STAGING AREA! |

Hello Beloved’s. I AM God, the Father, Aton, Christ Michael. I AM the one who visited the Earth plane 2000 years ago. It is the time of my Second Coming. We have a problem on Earth, particularly at this time in the United States of America, of resistance to my Coming. I have with Me, the Hosts of Heaven, many whom will have their names added to the end of this piece. I so want to come, but those on Earth, particularly those within the government and media structure of the United States, have been most resistant.
Many of you who will read this when you open your email today, are Christians, awaiting my coming, and you have been assisting the dark side in preventing it. On this coming Thursday, October 5, many will march to ask the Bush administration to leave. I would ask that you join them. In publishing this, you will call many who are totally unaware of this march to come to it. You will give them not only the knowledge of it, but permission to come and participate. How about the truth of 911? How many times has the media refused to tell that the Bush Administration did 911? That it was done to get Americans to support the war in Afghanistan, and Iraq? Did you know the death toll of the citizens of Iraq is now well over 500,000 people? Did you know that the dark rulers of the planet were asked to stand down, so that I might do my Second Coming on April 3, 2005? They did not stand down, but went about their plans to enslave the planet.
Did you know there are hundreds of concentration camps awaiting those of America, and citizens around the world? Don’t you see the horror of the World Wars returning once again to the planet? Don’t you see the pollution of the planet causing serious problems, each day you get into your cars and drive?
Haven’t you read of the many who came to Earth to provide technology that was cheap, and free of pollution for energy use? Some of you have, and yet you persist in assisting the beast take over the world. Some of you who are Christians support the wars, thinking it would bring my return. No it will not. I will have my return, when there is peace upon the Earth. I will walk the planet again, when arms are put down, and you move into the concept of cooperation and help to one another.
I will not walk the planet immediately after my Second Coming, but others well. Many associated with my Second Coming actually do already walk the planet. The many avatars are returning to re-teach their peoples the forgotten truths. There is much of knowledge given to my beloved planet Earth, that has been changed, erased, and intentionally re written to confuse.
I am in your skies. I am in a ship called the Phoenix. Over the next few days, under protection of other ships, I will be down low in your skies. Look skyward, my friends and beloved children. There are many ships up there. Many will have a variety of lights upon them, in all sorts of different colors. They have been there for a long time now, and ignored by you. Do the stars change color while you watch them? No they do not.
The plan is almost in place to remove the evil governments of this world. I ask your assistance to speed this up, and bring into the planet the love and glory that your hosts of heaven, the star visitors from other planets and other realms have to offer to you.
We will assist, but only with your desiring it, the solving of the many problems on your realm. We can assist with upgrading your technology and removing the pollution. We can assist with re locating people who are in harms way of the coming Earth changes. Yes, that time is here; you all know it. There is no rapture away into the sky, but rather you will remain upon the planet and assist us with the healing.
Soon California will experience great quakes. You know this. Yet you have built up the state with a huge population, and they will fall into harm in their poor choices. Did you know that, and yes you do, because many of you have discussed it, that the government black operations forces blew up the dikes and levies in New Orleans last year, causing all the death and destruction?
There is nothing you do, that I do not know about. All is stored in the natural records of Earth. Every transgression, every great thing done, every small good or bad deed. There is no place to hide of your bad deeds. They are not secret. I ask you to come around and start your good deeds. I ask you to support openly and publicly the rally this Thursday. I ask that you tell the American people the truth of 911 and the wars since. I ask that you tell the American people the truth of New Orleans.
Will you do this? Will you come into honesty and goodness and do what is right? There will be star warriors protecting all the people who come into the streets. It is My final time of grace upon you. Many of you are from other star systems yourself, and came to uplift the planet, and somehow became scared and lost of your courage to do that, which is honest, decent and right. Now is the time to find that courage. Now is the time to band together, and say no to the bosses who force you to print and spew out the lies that has become your news.
Now is the time to just say no, to say enough is enough and to do the right thing. I ask that you publish this letter from Me, in all the media in the United States, and elsewhere for that matter also. I want so to get my Second Coming done, to not delay it longer, to not watch as many suffer from all the mistakes and willful darkness of Earth.
How can those of you who say you are Christian participate in this charade you call the news, the Congress, the various entertainments that deceive? If you wish to call yourselves thusly, it is time to be truly Christian, and do what is right. My laws are simple ones, not meant to enslave but to liberate. Amongst them, are the ones that say, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not covet. Yet you kill so that you can steal the oil that you covet. There are solutions. Oil is not needed for energy, nor is coal. Energy is free, it is in the atmosphere, and space, and it is unlimited, and we shall gift you with the technology that uses it, when you become responsible enough to not kill, steal, and covet.
There are many from the stars in your skies. Your government, through its Star Wars programs thought they could prevent our Coming. Yet our technology is far greater, and so are our numbers. In and around your solar system are now 20 MILLION ships from other places. You think you can prevent us from coming? No, you can’t. You have only delayed it, while we awaken people on the planet to their knowledge that they have incarnated here to lift up the planet from within. They are awakening.

Russian units raid Georgian airfields for use in Israeli strike against Iran – report

The raids were disclosed by UPI chief editor Arnaud de Borchgrave, who is also on the Washington Times staff, and picked up by the Iranian Fars news agency. The Russian raids of two Georgian airfields, which Tbilisi had allowed Israel to use for a potential strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, followed the Georgian offensive against South Ossetia on Aug. 7.
Under the secret agreement with Georgia, the airfields had been earmarked for use by Israeli fighter-bombers taking off to strike Iran in return for training and arms supplies.
DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources report that flying from S. Georgia over the Caspian Sea to Iran would sharply trim the distance to be spanned by Israeli fighter-bombers, reducing flying time to 3.5 hours.
Northern Iran and the Tehran region, where most of the nuclear facilities are concentrated, would be within range, with no need to request US permission to pass through Iraq air space.
Russian Special Forces also raided other Israeli facilities in southern Georgia and captured Israeli spy drones, says the report.
Israel was said to have used the two airfields to “conduct recon flights over southern Russia as well as into nearby Iran.” The US intelligence sources quoted by UPI reported that the Russian force also carried home other Israeli military equipment captured at the air bases.
Our sources say that if the Russians got hold of an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle complete with sophisticated electronic reconnaissance equipment, they will have secured some of the IDF’s most secret devices for spying on Iran and Syria.
When this happened before, Russian military engineers quickly dismantled the equipment, studied it and passed the technology on to Tehran and Damascus. |

USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier joins American Middle East armada
Prime minister Ehud Olmert summoned defense minister Ehud Barak and foreign minister Tzipi Livni for an urgent consultation on Iran Wed. Sept. 10, as the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier headed out to the Mediterranean for missions “in support of maritime security.”
Its arrival will bring the number of US aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea to four, compared with two Russian warships. Most of the Russian fleet in the region is concentrated in the Black Sea whence it has easy and rapid access to Middle East waters.
The Roosevelt will be followed by its strike force, which includes the guided missile cruiser Monterey , the guided missile destroyers Mason and Nitze , with 7,300 sailors and marines aboard, and the attack submarine Springfield .
Our sources report that the USS Ronald Reagan carrier and its strike group began engaging in assault and support missions for US and NATO forces in Afghanistan on Aug. 28.
The Iwo Jima carrier group, whose decks carry 6,000 sailors, air crews and marines, supports the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean and Fifth Fleet in the Gulf with a massive amphibious capability.
The USS San Antonio amphibious transport dock ship is the first vessel of its class to be deployed in the region as a platform for supporting Marine movements and operations ashore.
The USS Peleliu carrier patrols the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. It is escorted by vessels carrying a large Marine contingent.
Monday, Iran launched a three-day naval-air-missile exercise to practice defense tactics for its nuclear sites. |

A 14-plane US airlift lands high-powered FBX radar in Israel with US personnel

Huge US Air Force C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Gobemaster III transports have ferried the high-powered FBX-T anti-missile radar to Israel’s Nevatim Air Base south of Beersheba. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the transportable radar surveillance/forward-based X-band radar was accompanied by some 120 American European Command personnel. The area of its deployment at the Negev base has been fenced off and made off-limits to non-American personnel.
This is the first time an Israel Defense Forces facility housing an American weapons system has been closed to Israeli military.
The X-band radar has been deployed with cooling systems, generators, perimeter defense weaponry and dozens of technicians and security forces to operate and defend the installation.
The Raytheon system can detect a flying object the size of a baseball at a distance of 4,700 km, fix on its speed and trajectory and convey the data to the Israeli Arrow anti-missile battery. This equals detecting an Iranian Shehab-3 ballistic missile 5.5 minutes after its launch, which means that it is picked up halfway on its 11-minute flight from Iran to bomb targets in Israel, adding precious minutes to Israel’s response time for incoming missile attacks.
Israel has furthermore been given improved access to US satellites capable of identifying missiles at the instant of their launch. Israel will now be directly linked to the satellites - albeit through the US Joint Tactical Ground Station – JTAGS in Europe.
Commenting on the FBX radar deployment, a Pentagon source said: First, we want to put Iran on notice that we’re bolstering our capabilities throughout the region, and especially in Israel. But just as important, we’re telling the Israelis, ‘Calm down; behave. We’re doing all we can to stand by you and strengthen defenses.’”

Why go into Iraq to remove Saddam then? If Saddam's Iraq was going to get WMD, why not just hugely bolster the defences of its neighbours? That way, if they did get them, they'd be ineffective against potential enemies. Oh, but, no - you know why they didn't go with that less destructive option? Because Saddam's Iraq was a broken-backed country, ravaged by years of war and sanctions - Iraq could be easily rolled over.
Iran is not a broken-backed state. It has a good infrastructure, it's not ravaged and torn apart by war, sanctions, poverty and tribal loyalties. Iran will fight back - anywhere and everywhere. So, awww, no! It's too hard! Let's run from this one! Grrr, yeah! The War on Terror! Except without going against terrorist-funding countries who won't bend over and take it up the poop shoot. The United States, signalling a possible interest in better channels of communication with Iran, has granted rare permission for a US-based research and policy think tank to open an office in Tehran.
The American Iranian Council (AIC), which is devoted to improving relations between the two enemies, has been given a licence to establish a presence in the Islamic Republic by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which is responsible for enforcing American economic and trade sanctions against countries such as Iran, Sudan and Cuba.

Iran willing to abandon uranium enrichment, envoy suggests:

Iran would consider suspending uranium enrichment if the country were guaranteed a supply of nuclear fuel for its power stations, a senior Iranian diplomat said yesterday.

Stern US warning to Syria not to invade Northern Lebanon

Washington accompanied this warning to Damascus, DEBKAfile has learned, with its first explicit threat of military intervention to aid Lebanon should Syria go through with its planned incursion of the North.
DEBKAfile first revealed the concentration of 10,000 Syrian troops on the Lebanese border on Sept. 20 and again on Sept. 27.
The warning, according to our sources, was delivered on Sept. 28 by secretary of state Condoleezza Rice to the Syrian foreign minister Walid Mualem whom she invited for an urgent meeting in New York. The day after they met, Mualem was handed a second warning by undersecretary of state David Welch, who specified precisely whic Syrian movements the US government would deem crossing the Lebanese border.
The harsh words from the top two American diplomats left the Syrian minister with little option but to promise there would be no Syrian incursion. However, in a number of subsequent interviews, Mualem claimed his talks with the two American officials focused on Washington’s support for the indirect talks between Jerusalem and Damascus, a tale made of whole cloth.
In the week since Washington warned Damascus off, nothing has changed in the Syrian military deployment on the Lebanese, our military sources confirm.
Syrian officials talking to Western diplomats are now maintaining that Islamic extremists are setting up an emirate in northern Lebanon which will jeopardize the stability of the entire region. Since Damascus has been warned off interfering in Lebanon by Washington, it cannot take responsibility for the consequences.
Syria’s determination to occupy the northern region of Tripoli is not lost on the Lebanese. The highest ranking Salafi authority in Lebanon, Dai al-Islam Shahhal, warned this week against an incursion by the Syrian army into north Lebanon, saying it would open 'the gates of hell and lead to what is similar to Iraq and its misery."

Changing the Conventional Wisdom About Iran
Both U.S. presidential candidates agree that Iran must be stopped from acquiring nuclear-weapons capability, and their preferred option for doing so is diplomacy — by which they mean sanctions. Even though John McCain is more inclined to keep a military option "on the table," the U.S. military establishment has made clear that attacking Iran is the proverbial "bridge too far", whose consequences would pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. interests. The problem is that the current diplomatic effort is going nowhere.

Palestinian official: Israeli tight blockade on Gaza still on
Chief of the Popular Committee to Challenge the Israeli blockade, Jamal al-Khodari, accused Israel on Saturday of keeping a tight blockade imposed on some 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Khodari said in a statement sent to reporters that "Israel is misleading the world's public opinion by saying that the closure imposed on the Palestinian territories was lifted at the end of the Jewish holidays."
On the eve of every Jewish holiday, Israel usually closes its borders with the West Bank and Gaza Strip in a bid to prevent the Palestinian movement of people and goods during holiday.
"Israel still closes all Gaza border crossings for more than a year and a half. The siege was not lifted. Although Israel partially reopens the crossings, this doesn't cover more than 15 percent of the population's needs," he said.
Following Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in mid June last year, and ouster of security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas, Israel imposed a tight blockade on the enclave and only allowed humanitarian aids inflow for the population.
On June 19, Egypt mediated a truce in the Gaza Strip for six month between Israel and Gaza militant groups, led by Hamas movement. After the truce came into effect, Israel eased some of the restrictions imposed on Gaza.
"Gaza still lives under the siege, where the lives of 1.5 million people is threatened, while the West Bank is divided into small pieces due to roadblocks and the separation wall that Israel builds in the West Bank," said al-Khodari.

Russian military experts calculate that the window for an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities will shrink to 3-6 months if Moscow sells Iran (and Syria) the sophisticated S-300 system for guarding those sites against air, missile or cruise missile attack. DEBKAfile’s Moscow sources report that Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert failed in the key missions of his Moscow trip to persuade Russian leaders to discuss Tehran’s nuclear weapons program and to refrain from selling this advanced weapon to Iran and Syria.
President Dmitiry Medvedev’s bureau issued a noncommittal statement Tuesday, Oct. 7, saying that his talks with Olmert were “an exchange of opinion on threats, including terrorism and nonproliferation.” The word “nuclear” was avoided.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, who the prime minister met Monday, trotted out the standard Russia claim that Moscow had no definite information that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon and is against tougher sanctions.
Prime minister Vladimir Putin was unable to see him.
Moscow’s mainstream media came out Tuesday with a rerun of the statement made on Sept. 17 by Anatoly Isaikin, director of the Russian arms exports agency Rosoboronexport, that his firm is in advanced negotiations with Tehran for the sale of the S-300 missiles. However, on Monday, the same firm disowned knowledge of these missiles having been shipped to Iran, although negotiations for their sale were not mentioned.
Konstantin Makiyenko, from the center for strategic and technological analysis think tank in the Russian capital, said these utterances put Israel on notice to stop selling arms to Georgia and training its army.
Moscow does not conceal its intention of selling S-300 missiles to Syria. A Russian military expert commented: “Our warships if based in Syrian ports will need to be encircled by missile batteries capable of guarding them against air and missile attack.”
According to Russian experts, the system is capable of pinpointing 100 targets and simultaneously intercepting 12 at a distance of 120 km.
Our Russian sources made a point of stressing that Moscow is not subject to embargoes on its foreign arms sales or any international restrictions on supplying defensive weapons to other nations.
