Military Man,
Thankyou for your regular updates. As I mentioned before, in my opinion, Syria et al, will strike Israel on or before May 14, 2008 as they don't want Israel around to have a "birthday bash."
What do you think about that? |

The New York Sun, meanwhile, quotes an unidentified Baath official saying, "If Israel doesn't vacate the strategic Golan Heights before September, Syrian guerillas will immediately launch 'resistance operations' against the Golan's Jewish communities." The official said "Damascus is preparing for Israeli retaliation following Syrian guerilla attacks and for a larger war with the Jewish state in August or September."
The official warns that "Syria has the capability to fire 'hundreds' of missiles at Tel Aviv in the opening salvo of any conflict." The official told the New York paper that Damascus has made numerous requests to Washington for the return of the Golan "either through negotiations or through war."

Here is how I summarize things right now.
"As the world's leading powers met in Shanghai Wednesday to discuss ways to persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear program, Israel and Iran were exchanging threats of war; Syria was marshalling its army near the Golan Heights; Hamas was attacking Israeli troops along the Gaza Strip; and Hezbollah was muttering about avenging the assassination two months ago of its top military commander.
Spring in the Middle East frequently raises fears of war. This year war fever is intense."

This assessment from 2006 is quite accurate of the thinking of the leadership in Israel right now.
"The Bush administration may yet come to the rescue. The “senior source” quoted by the Jeruslaem Post “did not rule out the possibility of US military action, but said that if this were to take place, it would probably not occur until the spring or summer of 2008, a few months before President George W. Bush leaves the international stage.”
Akiva Eldar has apparently heard the news about 2008 too. He sees a real possibility of “an accelerated preemptive war against Syria, before Iran is equipped with a nuclear bomb and before Tehran completes the transformation of the Syrian army into a modern army rich in new types of weaponry. According to cautious assessments, this process will take no longer than two years. Unfortunately, in the foreseeable future, we will not have a government that is capable of conducting negotiations with Syria and in the United States there is not a president who will do this for us.”
No negotiations, and a looming deadline in the summer of 2008. Eldar’s conclusion seems to sum up the prevailing thinking in the Israeli government: “Keep the shelters clean.”"

Another dot. However, reporters are not the only thing being trained in Iran. In fact the reporters do not need trained, but instead shall be expected to carry out attacks themselves if the opportunity presents itself. Remember the day before 9-11 the leader of the anti-Taliban was killed by a reporter with a bomb. |

BEIRUT, April 17 (Xinhua) — A Hezbollah official has spoken about possible Israeli infiltration towards the Lebanese-Syrian boarders, local Elnashra news website reported on Thursday.
“Syrian forces are trained on fighting in Hezbollah style,” Sheikh Nabil Kaouke, a senior Hezbollah official responsible for south Lebanon area, was quoted as saying, adding that the Syrians will expand the battle to the Golan Heights.
Ruling out an Israeli military strike on Iran, Kaouke said if the Israelis move towards the boarders, the Syrian forces will be ready.
He said Israel is avoiding for the time being any “provocation” until May 15, when celebrations of the Israeli state anniversary are over.
During these celebrations, heads of states such as the American and French presidents will attend, thus, Israel would avoid problems, Kaouke added.

The fuel supply to Gaza was renewed on Wednesday, after the transport of diesel fuel was halted for a week. On Monday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered that the fuel supply to the Gaza power station be renewed. The decision was taken after Egyptian authorities requested the move.
Power outages in Gaza City
Two days ago, a temporary agreement was reached that would see IDF forces secure the fuel terminal until a permanent solution is found vis-à-vis the Dor Energy company, which operates the fuel terminal. The army secures the area on a permanent basis, but the agreement calls for the IDF to provide security within the facility as well.

Right now there are only 10 real terror threats. Many times during the holidays, there are 15 - 20 terror threats that are credible.
Hamas and other PA entities will always try new homicide bombings, but Israel is pretty good at preventing these. Instead, the attacks will come from missiles, mortars, and now there are threats of ieds being used in and near Israel by the enemies. Hezbollah or another entity associated with them are feared to launch either missile attacks or even a cross-border attack like the Hamas did yesterday (just enough to get noticed, but not enough for Israel to respond). Syria, on the other hand has chemical weapons and possibly a few nukes ready for launching, but these prized possessions are awaiting orders from Iran. Assad has even said, circumstances are not such (YET!), he must wait for an Iranian order. In the short-term, Syria may also conduct some cross border attacks, mimicking the Hezbollah prior to the 2006 summer war. They are all waiting for the ultimate terror attack to be successful to launch their war. Thus, be prepared that a shocking attack will come, if successful, it will start the ignition to the 2008 War. |

Netanyahu told the paper that he would regard the election as a referendum on any such accord.
If Olmert doesn't win, ''then you cannot cynically and manipulatively force upon the people a move they do not want,'' Netanyahu said.
Polls show that if elections were held today, Netanyahu would handily beat both Olmert and the Labor Party's chairman, Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
Netanyahu, leader of the hawkish Likud Party, also rejected the notion of sharing sovereignty over disputed Jerusalem with the Palestinians. ''I can say categorically that I will not divide Jerusalem,'' he said.
Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas relaunched peace negotiations in November after a seven-year breakdown, and promised US President George W. Bush to try to reach a deal by December. Both sides have suggested that goal is overly ambitious.
On Thursday, Olmert told Israeli TV stations that his goal in peace negotiations is creation of a Palestinian state next to Israel.
Israeli elections are not scheduled until late 2010. But Olmert's hold on power is shaky, and elections could be moved up, largely because some members of his coalition oppose sweeping territorial concessions to the Palestinians |
