I had been hearing and reading that myself however I believe Israel is rejecting it. Also I don't believe a word of it. Iran calls the shots for Hamas so I think it's a setup personally. They said they would answer Egypt on Thursday about it which makes you wonder what they have planned between now and Thursday. There are also reports out there that Hamas and Syria agreed to escalate the fighting against Israel so who knows? Maybe Military man can give some new info.

UN Forces Backed Down From Hizbullah Gun Bust

by Ezra HaLevi

(IsraelNN.com) Hizbullah terrorists scared off UNIFIL armed forces last month after the armed international soldiers found a truck carrying arms and ammunition for the group.

According to Haaretz, which quotes an unnamed "source in Jerusalem," the UNIFIL troops were on patrol and pulled the truck over. When they approached the vehicle, armed Hizbullah terrorists exited and threatened them at gunpoint. The UNIFIL troops returned to their cars and went back to their base.

The March 31 incident, which undercuts confidence in the ability of international troops to prevent the activities of the terrorist group in the region, was kept secret at the time. It was mentioned in a semi-yearly report submitted to the UN Security Council by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Hizbullah is not allowed to enter the area in which the weapons shipment was found according to UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The incident constitutes a major violation of the resolution, which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert counts among Israel's great successes of the Second Lebanon War.

Rules of Engagement Questioned, Hizbullah Threatens
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi announced last week that he would be reviewing the rules of engagement for the 2,500 Italian soldiers serving in the UN force, saying the troops were being prevented from reacting to certain situations. "We pledge our support for the strengthening of democracy (in Lebanon)," he said, "but we want to look at the rules of engagement. Our soldiers find themselves in a unique situation...because they cannot react. We will re-examine the rules of engagement."

The Hizbullah-led opposition in Lebanon warned against amending UNIFIL's rules of engagement, saying that it would change it into "occupation forces." The use of that language is meant to signal that Hizbullah terrorists would begin targeting UN forces in attacks.

"Any amendment would give the international forces the jurisdiction to use force and erect checkpoints outside its area of deployment," the statement said. "That would transcend on the Lebanese Army's authorities, and would change these forces' mandate from observing implementation of resolution 1701 to occupation forces."

Hizbullah Calls the Shots
Hizbullah is tightening its control over southern Beirut, according to a report in Al-Mustakabel translated by MEMRI. The group has recently clashed with Lebanese forces and forced them to abide by Hizbullah’s rules.

In one case, a Lebanese security official was kidnapped and questioned by Hizbullah agents after reportedly taking pictures of illegally built structures in a Hizbullah-friendly neighborhood. In another, members of Hizbullah forced the Lebanese police to release two men who had been arrested after they refused to stop for a routine inspection.

Lebanon fails to elect a president for 18th time

Beirut, Lebanon - For the 18th time, Speaker Nabih Berri postponed a parliament session to elect a new President for Lebanon without setting a new date. Less than half of the parliamentarians showed up, the vast majority being of the March 14 alliance.

The Hezbollah lead opposition, which Berri is tightly aligned with, continues to boycott Lebanon's democratic law.

The speaker reiterated his invitation to the feuding political parties to hold talks under his auspices.

"If I do not get a positive response to the dialogue, I will set a date for another session," Berri told reporters from Parliament building.

"A serious dialogue is needed to determine what election law is to be adopted," Berri said.

Before the announcement, Berri held a closed door meeting with Druze leader Walid Jumblat. MPs begin arriving at the parliament building in Nejmeh Square at 10 am.

No details were immediately available about their meeting.

Hizbullah deputy says group still negotiating with Israel

Published: 04.22.08, 20:50 / Israel News

Deputy Secretary-General of Hizbullah, Naim Qassem, said on Tuesday that "the negotiations for a prisoner exchange with Israel are still ongoing."

At a gathering held in honor of Lebanese prisoner Samir Kuntar in Beirut, Qassem said that Hizbullah is not interested in revealing details to the media. "When there are results – we'll announce them," he said. "We cannot give up on our prisoners – no matter the difficulties." (Roee Nahmias)

Peace with Syria suicidal, MKs say

[link to www.ynetnews.com]

Syrian report suggesting Olmert will agree to pull out of Golan Heights for sake of peace with Damascus inflames political area: Likud blames him for thinking of nothing but political survival; Kadima MK says will push forward referendum on area's future

Amnon Meranda Latest Update: 04.23.08, 14:35 / Israel News

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert undoubtedly heard about the Syrian report saying he had agreed to cede Israeli control of the Golan Heights in exchange for peace with Syria, while on vacation.

The report by the Damascus-based website Shams Press was joined by a report in the Syrian newspaper al-Watan, which claimed that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan telephoned Syrian President Bashar Assad on Tuesday and informed him of Olmert's willingness to fully withdraw from the Golan Heights in exchange for a peace agreement.

According to the report, which quotes "knowledgeable sources" in Damascus, Erdogan is expected to visit the Syrian capital over the weekend and take part in a first-of-its-kind economic summit between Syria and Turkey.

The Syrian report's credibility may be questionable, but that did little to pacify the infuriated political arena.

Head of the Knesset's House Committee, Knesset Member David Tal of the prime minister's Kadima party, announced Wednesday that he would push forward the forming of the Golan Heights Act once the Knesset returns from its Passover hiatus. The bill will make a referendum on the region's future mandatory.

Knesset Member Yuval Steinitz (Likud) said the report indicated "unprecedented irresponsibility on Olmert's part both political and defense-wise."

Without the Golan Heights, he added "Israel will have serious trouble defending itself and its water sources. I have no doubt the public is on the Golan's side, not the prime minister's."

The Likud party later issued a formal statement on the matter: "There is no limit to the dangerous concessions Olmert is willing to make for the sake of his political survival… Now he is willing to give way to Syria, an ally of Iran, which supports Hamas terror and supplies Hizbullah with weapons," said the statement.

False expectations
MK Marina Solodkin (Kadima) party, also criticized Olmert: "I am utterly against any withdrawal from the Golan, mainly because Syria is in cahoots with Iran and Hizbullah. Peace with Syria at this point in time is suicidal for Israel."

MK Ze'ev Elkin (Kadima) reiterated the sentiment, saying that in the last six months "Olmert has been fooling the Israeli public and the international community, making promises he can't keep… he has no support for this move, neither in the Knesset nor in Kadima.

"Creating false expectations like these will end up costing Israel dearly…a media spin is no way to make true peace," he added.

Knesset Member Effie Eitam of the National Union-NRP, said Olmert is sacrificing Israel's safety in a "desperate attempt to show his constituents some sort of a political achievement… He is willing to give up the one strategic asset which has kept the northern border quiet for the past 40 years."

The people, he added, "will not let him or anyone give the Golan Heights back to the Syrians."

Former Meretz Chairman MK Yossi Beilin, however, urged the prime minister to hold intensive and swift negotiations with the Syrians, saying "peace with Syria is a key part of regional peace and will lead to the implementation of the Arab peace initiative and to a dramatic change in Syria's relationship with the extreme elements in the region."

The Prime Minister's Office declined official comment on the report saying "we will not comment on the said report but we can refer everyone to the prime minister's holiday interviews saying that we know what the Syrians want of us, and they know what we want of them."

Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem linked the report to the upcoming US Congress hearing regarding the North Korean bid to distribute nuclear technology to Syria, among other nations.

272536 I agree. On one hand you have war about to break out and on the other their talking peace. I find the IAF jets over Lebanon interesting. Usually they don't do that unless their picking up intelligence of something going on. Then the Syrian report given by the CIA would certainly anger Syria and N.Korea. I don't know where this is headed at all. Maybe everyone is trying to look like the peacemakers so that when it does hit the fan they will look like they are defending themselves. Who knows?

No we didn't. It's all the Zionists fault. First, by putting Israel in the midst of all the Muslims, and secondly by their own provocative, aggressive and demeaning actions. Israel never even tried to get along and be respectful of their neighbors.

This was either a staged event by Heabolla to justify a war with Israel in self defense. Or the IAF had some strong intelligence that Hezbollah was about to strike and fired the first shots. It is interesting that media outlets are so quiet about this if it did happen. If it did and that is a big IF right now then a war is about to go down. I wish Military man or Mossad agent's wife could way in on what happened.

An Israeli infantry patrol crossed into the eastern bank of south Lebanon’s Wazzani River on Wednesday and launched a search campaign for about two hours, local reporters said.
A reporter told Naharnet the Israeli patrol also used trained dogs in the search operation, but did not cross the Blue Line into Lebanese territory.

“They were within 100 meters maximum from river bank restaurants. I have them on Video. The soldiers pointed rifles at me and at restaurant employees as the search operation was underway,” added the reporter in a telephone dispatch from Wazzani, which is a U.N.-Policed area in the eastern sector of south Lebanon.

The Israeli infantry patrol carried out the search as two Israeli tanks observed the terrain from a distance, the reporter added.

No acts of violence were reported, he said.
