CERN has cancelled all warm up tests for LHC
CERN has cancelled all warm up tests for LHC

NEWS UPDATE FROM NOTEPAD 15 APRIL 2008

CERN has cancelled all warm up tests for LHC in order to keep the deadline. The already lost nearly 3 years after a large explosion in the 27 km tunnel system below Geneva where the want to collide particels at speed over light speed (400000 km per second). Now the are under a lot of pressure by politicians, the military and its own management.

This system is not ready. The new safety report has not been released. The old reports don’t prove safety anymore.

They are from 1999.

I understand that the more dangerous tests - as to risk

of something going really wrong - will be conducted

later on but I was not aware of any oncrete dates

planned. I an always use insider information Wink

Of course it can take 34 days or some more for the real

big danger to come .

My personal theory as a NO SCIENTIST is: As soon as this

things lets particles crash together at over light

speed, something nasty - OR something beautiful could

happen.

I am not sure to understand what's the deal to HAVE to cancel the warmup, what the problem in starting it a few days later?

Why they have to just do that?

what's the deal really about all this experiment..all this start to get very strange

Re: CERN has cancelled all warm up tests for LHC
There is no "over the speed of light". Our universe doesn't support that. We can't accelerate anything over the speed of light. Go th the basment, sit in the dark for hours and try to gasp the theory of relativity. When object having mass (like some heavy particle) aproach the speed of light its mass starts rising exponentaly, thus requierng more and more energy to accelerate just a fraction more. Even if you don't understand how particle accelerator works, you should know we don't have infinetly poweful energy sorce, so we may accelerate something to 99.999999 the speed of light, not more. Tt the speeed of light time stops, and over the speed of light time should go backwards, that is what is happening inside the black hole. (If you are thinking of falling into the black hole, then you are alreday there :) But black holes "overload" spacetime by having too much mass in one place. E=Mc2. Willing to form a stable self sustained black hole we would need EC2 equivalent of energy, where M is the mass of smallest balck hole. We don't have that.

On the other hand, initiating wacuum colapse to lower energy state would be much cooler. Black holes are POP, wacuum colapse happened only once, after over-energetic big bang bubble collapsed to current spacetime.

Sorry for my English :(~

Re: CERN has cancelled all warm up tests for LHC
Big projects often have optimistic schedules which have "critical paths." If any small thing perturbs the critical path, then the effects propagate to the schedule as a whole.

The LHC had some improperly secured magnets which came loose in a testing phase and had to be redesigned and rebuilt.

So the later dates are probably the most recently revised schedule.

Also, the LHC doesn't turn on with a switch. So there may be weeks of fine tuning before they attempt particle collisions. The 27 kilometers of LHC must keep track of unavoidable motions at the sub-millimeter scale. So the exact start date depends both on what criteria you use to label a milestone as a start date and how the schedule changes ("slips") over time.

In February, the "Cold Date" for all 8 segments to be cold at 1.9 K was June 1, and the first time protons will be used is given as mid-June.

Only one of the eight segments of the ring have passed the cool-down tests.

And some vacuum leaks may have slowed down the schedule by 2 more weeks.

Learn relativity. The whole trick of our space-time is that you CAN NOT ADD SPEEDS.

Train going 100 mph, and me running on the train 10 mph the same direction, I am not moving 110 mph from the perspactive of the ground. I am moving a little bit slower.

Time itself slows down from speed.

Don't worry I spent countles hours getting rid of newtonian thinking (though they work pretty well at speed we are used to)

Sorry, I'm a bit under time pressure. This post was just to inform you that your information will be included in a press release from me.

I'm 100% sure you know a great lot more about all this than me. I'm not scientist. I'm just a concerned citizen.

All the information about progress at the CERN concerning the LHC is rumours. I cannot find any official dates from cern.

Why this?

So, sorry for not making it clear that your information is very valuable and thank you for it.

The point of that being the closing rate being higher than the speed of light gives a higher energy on collision than hitting a stationary target at the speed of light.

A proper consultation of the public who is fed disinfo and doesn't even understand what a LHC can and can't do?

How can that ever be proper?

Oh and the public representatives have been properly consulted, heck our "house of representatives" (the tweede kamer) have agreed to increase spending on CERN ever since the LHC was announced.
