• DANGER • Misinformation about almonds and cancer
almonds dont prevent cancer.

apricot kernels prevent cancer.

since the two look very alike, almost the same, people confused the two.

one contains lots of Amygdalin (B-17) and is thus bitter, the other does not contain B-17 and thus does not taste bitter.

Youve been warned, dont accidentally eat 3 almonds a day instead of 3 apricot kernels and then end up having cancer.

I thought it would be the Ethical thing to do to post this thread and warn of this mistake. One contains B-17. the other doesnt. thats why one is bitter and the other isnt, the bitter taste is the B17 its self.

i tried posting this in the almond thread put people on page 4 kept talking about almonds, they dont read everything, so this is my last attempt.

Almonds contain B-17 as well

B-17 is cyanide but in prescripted doses kills cancer.

Cherry pits also contain B-17, as does apple seeds.

When I eat an apple I eat the whole thing but the stem.

Edgar Cayce saw apricot kernels in a vision and mistakened them for almonds, we now know that today, since the kernels are what has B-17.

1) no they dont contain b 17 as well, if they do, its so tiny you cant even taste it like you can in kernels

2) no, B-17 is not cyanide, B-17 is b-17. It is a compound with a cyanide group. i dont understand your statement, it makes no sense.

3) yes, and you can taste it in apple seeds, unlike in almonds.

4) good, always eat all but the stem.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

An apricot kernel (Prunus armeniaca, "Armenian plum" in Latin) refers to the kernel of a species of Prunus, classified with the plum in the subgenus Prunus. It is commonly known for containing amygdalin, a toxic cyanogenic glycoside, sometimes incorrectly referred to as "vitamin B17". However it is not regarded by the scientific community as a vitamin since it has not been proven to be essential to achieving or maintaining good health, as is the widely accepted scientific definition of a vitamin.[1] Amygdalin was once thought to help prevent cancer by attacking cancer cells, but clinical studies related to laetrile, as discussed in the amygdalin article, were unsuccessful. A review of the clinical evidence was published in 2006 with the conclusion "Therefore, the claim that laetrile has beneficial effects for cancer patients is not supported by sound clinical data."[2]

Apricot kernels can sometimes be strong-tasting and bitter, and are known in culinary contexts as bitter almonds or apricot almonds. They feature in recipes for apricot jam, marzipan and Italian amaretto cookies and liqueur.[citation needed]

Taken in excess, they may produce nausea, fever, rash, hive nose, headaches, insomnia, increased thirst, weakness, lethargy, nervousness, various aches and pains in joints and muscles, a drop in blood pressure. A clinical trial of Laetrile (amygdalin) carried out in 1982 by the Mayo Clinic and three other U.S. cancer centers under National Cancer Institute sponsorship, found among other things that several patients suffered from cyanide poisoning.[3]

In 1993, The State Department of Agriculture and Markets of New York tested the cyanide content of two 8oz. packages of the bitter kernel which were being sold in health food stores as a health snack. The results returned showed that each package, if consumed entirely, contained at least double the lethal dosage of cyanide needed to kill a human being. [1]

OP, better read up on Bitter Almonds. Regular almonds also have cancer healing qualities according to other trusted channels. 3 almonds a day is very good advice, depending on the rest of your dieet, of course.

Apple pits do not contain arsenic; they contain cyanide.

Almond AND apricot pits contain Amygdalin, which was given the name vitamin B-17 by Ernst T Krebs. This substance decomposes to give Prussic acid (Cyanide).

wikipedia amygdalin:

Amygdalin (from Greek: ἀμυγδάλη amygdálē “almond”), C20H27NO11, is a glycoside initially isolated from the seeds of the tree Prunus dulcis, also known as bitter almonds, by Pierre-Jean Robiquet[1] and A. F. Boutron-Charlard in 1803, and subsequently investigated by Liebig and Wöhler in 1830, and others. Several other related species in the genus of Prunus, including apricot (Prunus armeniaca) and black cherry (Prunus serotina),[2] also contain amygdalin. It was promoted as a cancer cure by Ernst T. Krebs under the name "Vitamin B17", but studies have found it to be ineffective.[3][4][5]

Laetrile is BS.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 428866

In 1986 my mom was confirmed to have 2 cancer masses on her liver. She took the Laetrile Treatments in Mexico. 8 months later she had on cancer. Her Dr was confused and she told him about the treatments. She took 500 mg of B-17 twice a day living till 2009 Cancer free. My wife has diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on October of 2009 with a mass in the rectum 2 masses the size of blue barriers on her liver. After Chemo and Radiation she did not have surgery and has no cancer at this time, she takes 500 mg of B-17 and 1 oz of Mangosteen Juice per day and is doing great. Maybe it doesn't work but it doesn't hurt. The medicine manufacturing companies can not get a Patton on B-17 and the Cancer Industry would go bankrupt if they have the cure for cancer and let it out. Where does the money go for the research, what are they doing except nothing..

Bottom line.

Here. I'll do it for you.

You only get cancer if you stray from the balanced, natural path.

Nature helps to remove the toxins that cause the body to inflame like that.

Medicine

Prussian blue's ability to incorporate monocations makes it useful as a sequestering agent for certain heavy metal poisons. Pharmaceutical-grade Prussian blue in particular is used for patients who have ingested thallium or radioactive caesium. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, an adult male can eat at least 10 grams of Prussian blue per day without serious harm. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the "500 mg Prussian blue capsules, when manufactured under the conditions of an approved New Drug Application (NDA), can be found safe and effective therapy" in certain poisoning cases.[18] Radiogardase (Prussian blue in soluble capsules [19]) is a commercial product for the removal of caesium-137 from the intestine and so indirectly from the bloodstream by intervening in the enterohepatic circulation of caesium-137,[20] reducing the internal residency time (and exposure) by about two-thirds.

Nice of you, thanks.

I read this about apricot kernels a long time ago but also about almonds. There is a particular kind of almonds which sometimes accidentally gets into the food industry production lines but which is normally avoided as it does contain cyanide, they are called "bitter almonds". Those should contain the anti-cancer stuff but I don't know if it is safe to eat them.
