Scott Peterson...Fair Trial?

Scott Peterson...Fair Trial?
Iīm fairly certain heīs guilty. Iīd like to say that up front. As in, I believe he actually killed Lacy Peterson.

However, I wonder just how fair his trial was. The jurors stated in interviews today that they limited members of the jury to 2 minutes of speech time on any issue. So if you had an opinion on say "Lacy witnessed a burglry across the street and was killed because of it" then you had two minutes as a juror to make that point.
To judge him guilty took the jury some 8 hours. Divided by tweleve, that works out to 40 minutes of conversation for each juror. 40 minutes of deliberation per person seems like not much time when you are talking about a murder case. Havenīt some juries in the past taken WEEKS of deliberation to come to a verdict?

It appears to me that when the doctor/lawyer tried to slow down the trial and have the jurors actually TALK OUT the points of the trial, he was voted off as foreman and kicked off the jury.

Anyone else share a similar opinion?

Re: Scott Peterson...Fair Trial?
Scott was innocent: they wouldnīt have made a big deal out of it if he was guilty. This was done to show their power to all. There were at least two other pregnate women and their babys sacrificed and thrown in the bay before Lacy. This was covered up. Same way with O. J. and Martha they were innocent also. These are all created crimes to fill the airways and show their power over us slaves!

Just another overblown murder trial.

Are you that detached with your own life you have to live through others? Will this trial somehow change your life?

Iīm not sure because I wasnīt presented with the evidence...but one thing is really weird...

Doesnīt seem like California is like the Capital of killing quite pregnant women? Like since at least Manson? I think Petersonīs side does make a case to investigate satan worshipers types...

Wish he didnīt act so darn guilty though, and talking about "losing his wife" etc....and appearing to flee the country probably cost him his life more than anything.

Call me crazy, but if I was ever brought up on murder charges (falsely or not) Iīd like the people who were going to decide my fate to take some time to do it.

Thatīs why *I* care.

And when the jury comes back after deliberating your trial for 15 minutes what are you going to do? Jump up on the bench and demand that they go back and talk about it some more?

Donīt get around the U.S. "justice" halls too much now, do you?

Re: Scott Peterson...Fair Trial?
Not a fair trial.

A nobody fertilizer salesman has a disappeared, dead, pregnant wife. But the story is in the national news every day, cover of the National Enquirer most weeks, Russians are following the story...

Heīs guilty, but he was tried in the media.

The case was poor, and by California legal standards, the prosecution did not make the elements. It never should have been a death penalty case, either.

The drama will play on for the appeal.

Iīm not saying he shouldnīt have been punished for it. Iīm just wondering if the process that he went thru was proper. At least one juror, Justin Falconer, on his case was kicked off because he believed in the reasonable doubt defense...and did from day one. So he gets shitcanned. Then the doctor/lawyer wants to talk in depth about the case. Shitcanned. Some other woman may have done outside research. Shitcanned. Result? A jury that convicts after eight hours of deliberation.

Next time, it might be a TRULY innocent person. Do we want to get in the habit of putting "hanging judges" on the jury everytime someone gets accused?

Well make your minds up, either we have a jury of 12, or we put all the murder trials on a couple of new TV channels and all vote on it.

No good second guessing them now.

Sure there is. If enough news people see these types of comments on the Net, then maybe next time a person who has no physical evidence linking them to a crime wonīt be sent to prison. In essence, Scott was convicted on his character after being accused, his emotional display in court, and his habit of lying. Is he guilty? Probably. But you ought to take more than 8 hours to reach a verdict on it. This isnīt like a cop walked in while he was unwrapping a silk scarf from around her neck and testified to that. Thatīs a shorter type of verdict...maybe two hours. Getting rid of people who wanted to 1) vote differently than the rest of the jury, or 2) make the jury actually talk out the details seems counter to Justice in my opinion.

Weīve sent a lot of innocent men to prison in the last few years. DNA evidence has freed a few of them. Ever wonder how many more are in prison who donīt have the benefit of DNA admitted evidence to prove their innocence?

FAIR TRIAL MY ASS!!!!

oj gets off SCOTT free with PHYSICAL DNA EVIDENCE that he murdered his wife. Poor Whitey gets convicted and sent to the gallows on CIRCUMSTANCE ALONE.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET A FAIR TRIAL WHEN THE DEATH PENALTY IS DECIDED SEPARATE FROM THE CONVICTION? 1st degree murder is 1st degree murder. AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

Fucking whore justice system. Fucking illiterate bleeding heart juries. Fuck em.

I agree.

The prosecution had piles of proof that Scott was a lying weasel faced scum bag, but nothing at all to prove he murdered anybody.

I donīt think this case set a precedent for somebody being convicted and sentenced to die on circumstantial evidence... but it should be a lesson for habitual liars. In the right light, lying (even to your secret lover) can get you the death penalty.

Try to lie your way out of that..

The groups that are trying to correct some of these bad cases are so busy trying to free the innocent - especially those on death row.

It is probably never going to happen - but the federal government should fund a rework of all old DP cases where the accused is already dead and DNA soaked evidence is still available for additional testing. That would be the end of the DP in this "land of the free."
