LOL. The problem for us is not with the food supply. It's with people who start hoarding in fear of a shortage, which creates the appearance of one and that in turn motivates more hoarding. A lot of food gets lost to waste and spoilage during these phony shortages. Come on, what are going to do with 10 fifty pound bags of rice unless you're opening a sushi restaurant? Quoting: The Monk 274840
rice producing countries are stopping exports, the only result is a rice shortage, this is abc logic
food hoarding has had a very small efffect, most people havent got a clue about the coming famine and the brains to stock up anyway
America faces food rationing
when major retailers in New York are rationing food ,big alarm bells should be ringing in your head
food supplies are drying up,warning, warning, warning, there are riots the world over ,how much evidence do you need to see a global famine has been planned by the NWO ?
btw
We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order David Rockefeller |

Actually, the problem is also with the rising prices. Hell, if I had a bakery or pizza restaurant I would stock piling like there was no tomorrow just to delay paying a higher price.
While I would agree with you that hording can lead to shortages, this whole thing started with real shortages due to Wheat Rust (U99?) Then it worked it's way down the food chain (LOL - sorry couldn't help it), and like a house of falling dominoes it's causing short term shortages (or lag between demand and supply renewal). A major issue I see with this is that many countries have already limited export of food so that they can insure they have enough for their own country. Apparently, the greed factor is alive and well here in the US because Washington hasn't even been discussing the issue to my knowledge. If the current financial sector is any indication, Americans would be sold down the river before some tycoon would make a dent in his profit margin.
My other concern with this is that even if there is no true shortage, what about declining yields over the next couple of years? If a plant virus, unstable weather, etc. affected yields, we could be toast in one growing season if the supply chain is already stretched thin.
Food for thought. ;-) |

Local update... Wal-Mart in Franklin Ohio is out of corn oil cooking oil in all sizes. Stocks were fair for vegetable oil and canola oil. Lots of rice - standard american long grain white variety. A few bags (they don't stock much of that variety) of Jasmine rice at $10.28 for 20lbs. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 324898

But, my fellow We the People of the US, we have abundant and rich RICE LAND. In most years, two crops are produced between March & October, one harvested in late August, and the second harvested right before the first hard cold snap. Most of this land is in Texas & Louisianna.
It has produced a surplus for this country, as well as supplying Russian and other regions for decades. My grandfather was a rice farmer, as were most of the people's families that I grew up with. [link to www.fws.gov]
No Panic people. While things may not be perfect, production is high. I understand there are other areas in the counrty where rice is grown. Most of the people I grew up with from farming families are still farming the family rice lands, and cattle ranches. They have used fallow low lands for domestic fish production.
They abhore subsidies, which only have value to the farmer if a hurricane wipes out the crop. Usually, even if a storm hits, once the ground will support the combines, the rice can be lifted, harvested, and dried in processing.
Buy American rice which is abundant, and grown with as few chems as possible, as the irrigation water has to returned clean.
It's still cheap, about $1.49 for 2 pounds, long grain white.
Stock up a little, but please don't panic in the US. It's not time for that. Panic muddles your brain chemistry making you unable to think clearly. |

what makes you think USA grain is for the American people ?
In the famine in the Ukraine
At the height of the Famine Ukrainians were dying at a rate of 25,000 per day.
Nearly 1 in 4 rural Ukrainians perished as a direct result.
The Soviet Union dumped 1.7 million tons of grain on Western markets during the Famine
Nearly a fifth of a ton of grain was exported for each person who died of starvation.
Over 3,000,000 children born between 1932-1933 died of starvation. |

I am saying that domestic rice crops in the US produce abundant harvests twice a year regardless of hurricanes.
And no, I do not believe that the US government would force sales of food away from our country only to ration to us. It won't happen.
I would suggest that these other countries start planting crops, and stop depending on us to feed them. Our first priority will and should be ourselves. It isn't our mission on this planet to feed everyone else, regardless of what you may have heard. |

You might want to aquire a taste for white rice, and use seasonings to mimic the exotic tastes. The average US citizen buys domestically grown white rice, no shortages. |
