A few weeks ago they found a 19 yr old male for Minn. at Ithaca college and he drowned, they said he was drunk.....could there be a link with this also?

K, sorry, I can't figure out how to post again as the same user as last night. But I did want to tell you all more about my cousin. Some fits, some doesn't. He was 24, good-looking and in good shape, but not a jock and not a student. He'd actually never been to that bar before. He didn't drive and his "friends" said they last saw him talking to 3 Spanish girls at the bar. When they were leaving, they said they couldn't find Tommy and assumed he left with someone else -- maybe those girls. <br>
Well, that's the 1st thing that didn't make sense. Me, my hubby, another cousin, & his friend all went to this bar the Sat. night after he went missing and there wasn't one Latino person in that whole place. I've thought this whole time that it was a cover up ---- until this Smiley Face Gang stuff came up. I still think those "friends" are somehow tied into this. Tommy had gotten death threats the week before - something about those guys getting involved in something that Tommy knew too much about and didn't want any part of. I thought guns/drugs, but maybe it was this gang?<br>
So I met with the detective with my aunt and saw the crime scene pics. I called my sister and told her it just didn't look right. Tommy was frozen in the creek those 2 weeks so his body was well preserved. And like that other kid they actually ruled as a homicide, his arms were also bent across his chest. That kid was frozen too, remember? Tommy was also biting his bottom lip. He looked like he was cold to me. Arms against his chest, biting his lower lip...But how did he drown and apparently freeze like that?? 1st, I'd think his arms would be out, even if he was unconcious. And wouldn't your mouth relax or try to breathe or something? Tommy's shoes were tied, his belt buckled, his shirt still tucked in, his keys clipped to his belt loop like usual, wallet with like $200 in his pocket. But no cell phone. Checked with the phone company, but no help, the phone is dead (in the water?)<br>
Autopsy showed no signs of trauma -- not even scratches. Blood alchohol level was something like .22, but the M.E. also attributed some of that to his body started to decompose. Ruled accidental drowning. Oh by the way, Ridley Creek is all of about 2 feet deep. Quoting: Denise 427497
I'm not sure if this will help, but a family member has worked in the office of an AIR/HEAT/Commercial compamy for 30years, so by extension, I know a *little* about this. Anyway, a service technician who is in AC/Heating will most ALWAYS also work on all types of refrigeration...walk in freezers, coolers, ice makers, etc.
All of those heating/ac companies work on a multitude of products for restaurants, motels, convenience stores, grocery stores, not just Air Conditioners and Heaters in homes. The way you describe your cousin, (arms crossed biting lip, no marks) it sounds like he was frozen first, and then placed in the creek. A drowning person would have debree under their nails right? In two feet of creek?
This would also fit in with the Trane theory. |

On reviewing the material, I was struck by a singular parallel to a long-defunct MTV series, "Buzzkill". Buzzkill's logo was a smiley face inside crosshairs.

Smiley face graffiti has been found at crime scenes.
The pilot episode of Buzzkill included a segment called "Free Shuttle" at which drunk spring breakers were offered a 5 minute ride in a van that turned into a two hour odyssey during which the spring breakers gradually came to realize that they had apparently fallen in with violent criminals, and the spring breakers' furtive conversations about their predicament were captured by hidden cameras and microphones.
This was very memorable--even disturbing--television (I'm 45, caught it by accident when it first ran in mid-'96, and I still remember it vividly). It also appears to pre-date the first known murder by about a year, and being driven around in a van after being picked up while drunk appears to parallel the known M.O. The lure may not be that of a free shuttle, it may simply be a ride home from a newly-made friend.
I have no idea whether the detectives working this case have drawn these possible connections.
If the Buzzkill connection is real, I would imagine there would be video (and perhaps physical) trophies of the crimes, and perhaps they are being swapped around by a loose network of perpetrators. |

Ithaca college is in Itacha NY, a very "green" city. Don't know if there is a link to Trane here but Ithaca is only 2 hours away from Albany NY.

thanks for all the condolences. Ridley Creek, where Tommy was found, is only like maybe 50 feet wide. The bar's backdoor is on one side of the creek and right on the other bank is Widener University. Someone else mentioned the bouncers being involved. Their stories never matched up either, like they were covering up something. This bar is in a strip mall so if everyone parked out front, why on earth would Tommy sneak out a back door to end up in the creek? Unless, someone said they'd meet him back there??
And the thought that he was frozen somewhere else those 2 weeks that we searched for him also was discussed by the family. Originally we blamed those "friends" and didn't think it too realistic that they'd have access to a freezer like that. It is kinda hard to believe that no one saw him, even if he was frozen. Like I said it's not deep. There may have been a pocket where the water was 4 ft. but no more than that. Right behind the bar is the 1st place everyone searched. Between the police, family, friends, & search & rescue teams, that specific area was searched at least 5 times, from both sides of the creek. Maybe he was kept near frozen before they actually dumped him in the creek?
To the other woman who lost her cousin, Nick, I also am so sorry. Believe me when I say that I feel your anger. Tommy was truly such warm-hearted person and protected the people he loved. Why didn't anyone protect him? About Nick, I'm curious as to if they found his cell phone?
One other thing, Tommy did have water in his lungs so he definately drowned....it just wasn't accidental. |

I don't have any personal connection to the Garza case. I just live in Vermont where we have very few unexplained murders or missing persons cases. I live about 45 minutes from Middlebury, my boyfriend went to Middlebury College last summer to attend their summer language program, my wonderful friend Eva is a journalist who has been trying to help the family with publicity and keeping the story alive... she's produced three videos about Nick and the case and played a part in getting Natalie (Garza, Nick's mom) a cover story in a local newsweekly. I'd link to stuff but I don't understand this forum's linking prohibitions. If you go to YouTube and search for Nick Garza you will find them.
They found Nick's body?! I can't find any stories stating this. I know they are 99% certain that his body was spotted in the Otter River in helicopter surveillance photos taken a few weeks ago, but as far as I know his remains have not actually been recovered.
I really hope it is true so Natalie and Damon (and Tanya and everyone) can get some closure and get on with the grieving process. I feel so sad for them... :( I can't imagine what kind of hell the past three months have been.
Unfortunately I doubt that Nick's remains will yield much evidence. The Otter is rushing, mad white water this time of year due to snow melt run-off. |

There is a breaking 'body found in river' story here, in the West River in Brattleboro, but it isn't Nick. It was a 41 year old man named Woodrow Swain. |

Upon re-reading what Jezabella posted about Nick's body, it appears that all that has occurred is the photos of a body taken from the air. The way I read it, no body has actually been recovered. |
