Analysts just do not know what has caused 344 quakes [link to www.syzygyjob.com] This is a 72 hour long short term seismic alert for the region from the Coachella Valley and south to the border near Mexicali, Mexico. Recent shear stress infrasonic resonant harmonic signal levels attained during the past 24 hours have exceeded those which preceded the February 9, 2008 moderate magnitude earthquake, and seismic swarm epicentered in Northern Baja, Mexico which caused damage to structures. BAsed upon its amplitude, it could be a much stronger seismic event. The recent M4.2 epcentered near the Anza Seismic Gap appears to be a precursor for this next seismic event, which is expected at any time during the next 72 hours. |

Analysts just do not know what has caused 344 quakes [link to www.redorbit.com] A recent surge of seemingly endless earthquakes in Nevada over the past two months have seismologists puzzled as they try to determine whether the quakes indicate more activity to come. "You're not going to get an earthquake prediction today," John Anderson, director of Seismology Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno, said Tuesday during a briefing with Gov. Jim Gibbons and emergency managers on the seismic activity. Hundreds of quakes began hitting the Reno, Nevada area on Feb. 28. The largest came Friday night reaching a magnitude of 4.7, registered at 11:40 p.m. It was preceded 11 seconds earlier by a 3.3 quake, and followed 3 minutes later by one registering 3.4. No injuries were reported from Friday’s quake. The so-called "Mogul earthquake sequence” was named in reference to the neighborhood where hundreds of mostly minor earthquakes have occurred. What’s worth noting is that the size of the earthquakes has gradually grown larger, seismologists said. They added that it's impossible to determine if the temblors are foreshocks of a bigger quake to come, or aftershocks of what has been. Until April 15, quakes that could be felt above ground were occurring about once every third day, but on April 24, the first 4.2 quake was registered. Since then, state geologist Jon Price said seismologists “were seeing 20 (of the magnitude) 2s and larger per day." "This is an exceptionally vigorous sequence of earthquakes," Price said of the unexplainable sequence that has caused more than 500 recorded occurrences within the past week alone. They are mostly shallow, occurring just beneath the surface to within a mile or two. "Shallow makes us believe this is absolutely not volcanic," Price said. Craig dePolo of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology acknowledged the tension felt by residents of the area. "What's going on is extraordinary," he agreed . "People are being needled by little earthquakes ... for months." "And the best we can say is we don't know what going to happen." |

Then look across the state line into CA and see where Mammoth Lakes and Tom's Place are on the EQ maps. Research the seismic history of these areas as well. It leads me to believe something is moving or gathering under the surface and all of this MSM publicity about it certainly suggests something may be afoot, but not being spoken or addressed in exact terms so there isn't any panic. Make sense? |

It is beginning to feel like we are sitting on a time bomb and other days you convince yourself that it would never happen. My family is prepared as much as we can be but we just wish either something would happen or it would all just go away. The waiting and not knowing is making us all stressed out. It's good to have a sight like this where I can see all of your thoughts on the subject and educate myself along the way. |

Analysts just do not know what has caused 344 quakes Well, if one of these supervolcanoes does go off in spectacular fashion, those living close to one would be the fortunate ones. It would be over before you knew what hit you. For those beyond and around the world, there would be months and even maybe years of misery, nuclear winter, and starvation. I couldn't imagine the horrors of watching people die slowly due to inhalation of those tiny volcanic particles that would be in the atmosphere. It would severely decrease the world's population. |

Analysts just do not know what has caused 344 quakes Well then anonymous coward.. I guess that makes us lucky then. We won't see the suffering because we will already be dead. Bonus! Quoting: Shaken in Spanish Springs 426293Sorry, I wasn't wishing to heighten any anxieties here, just shooting from the scientific hip, as it were. I think it was really just a series of swarms due to the recent continental 'adjustments' happening here in North America. We even had a moderate quake in south central Texas about a month ago that left a lot of people shaking their heads. The area I would be more concerned with at this time is the Pac Northwest near Vancouver and down to Oregon and just east of Eureka California where the Juan de Fuca plate is forcing its way beneath the North American plate. When that snaps and drops it's going to be an event for the ages. But as long as we have the small tremors, I don't think we necessarily need worry about the really big ones. |
