hehe ive already done that and the plates are of poor quality. Plus i was not using distilled water so it produce a lot of crap. Turned the water green and it collected a bunch of goo at the top.

i think what schmitar is going for is massive amounts of HHO. My answer to that would be multiple cells. I seen a guy on youtube that produce MASSIVE amounts of HHO with a chemical reaction with a couple electrodes. Somewhere in the range of 70 LPM ill have to find it again.

i would LOVE to see that. please do :)

did you use copper wire to connect to the electrodes? I have been using the switch plates with no problems.. but I also use distilled water and koh also everything inside the cell is stainless screws wire connectors nuts etc.. if you use any other type of metal within the cell you will electro plate that metal on your electrodes this includes impurities within the water. if you cant get distilled capture some rain water. and i mean from the sky into a glass jar

good luck Grower

Re: Alternative Fuels-Using WATER to convert engine to a hybrid DIY!!Quote

scimitar i think your making it more difficult then it really is. Try a small setup with just a battery and your SS cell and go from there?. This is what i will do when i have enough $$$ to go and buy some SS sheet metal or some form of it. I'm going to build one cell and keep adding cells from there hook them all up in series and see if i can get a little 5 HP briggs and stratton engine running from it. If that works correctly its going into a 1600cc volks wagen engine. If that gets good results ill double the cells and use it on the larger engines i have. Ive been reading that you want to keep around 2 volts per plate. But this would depend on the thickness of your plates as well.
 Quoting: Grower 449976

More cells? Why?
Do you know how many liters of hydrogen you have in 1 gallon of water?

" The amount of hydrogen extracted from a gallon of water can be found very easily using the molecular weight of H20 (water), Hydrogen and Oxygen, along with mass conservation. the molecular weight of water is 2 H (molecular weight 1) + 1 Oxygen (Molecular weight 16) for a total of 18. And for every Molecule of water converted, we would get 2 Molecules of Hydrogen.

So, now the question is, how many molecules of water are there in a gallon of water? The density of water is 1g/(cm3) so in 1 gallon of water ( about 3.785 Liters or 3785 cm3) the mass of the water is, 3785g. 1 mole of 6.02x1023 molecules of water is equal has the mass in grams equal to the molecular weight or 18 grams per mole. so 3785 grams corresponds to about 1.265 x 1026 molecules of water.

Now, if every single one of those molecules were converted into Hydrogen we would get twice as much hydrogen as we had of water. or 2.53 x 1026 molecules of hydrogen. however since hydrogen is a diatomic molecule, meaning that the hydrogen that we talk about is H2, we would get 1.265 x 1026 molecules of hydrogen. at 1 atmospheric pressure and 273K, 1 mole of hydrogen fills approximately 22.4L of volume. so 1.265 x 1026 molecules or about 210 moles, would fill 4707 Liters of volume. Here is a study made in 1960 of the detonation velocity of various (by percentage) mixes of hydrogen and oxygen.

[link to deepblue.lib.umich.edu]

Six pages with charts - pdf image file.

600 tests with various conditions of tube size, temperature, pressure (from .5 atmosphere to 2 atmospheres), and percentage of hydrogen.

Quick and dirty evaluation: largest variations in detonation velocity came as percentage hydrogen changed. No other variant had such large effects.

However, even at a low percentage (34%), the explosion velocity was faster than a high speed rifle. ~2000 meters per second whereas few rifles sent a bullet faster than 1000 meters per second.

No attempt was made to control the ratios of single atom hydrogen and/or oxygen to double atom (molecules) of hydrogen and/or oxygen. (There is some evidence from Blacklight Power and other sources that these ratios are quite important.)

This is a common experience. Generally, the advice is to start with distilled or deionized water, use lye or potassium hydroxide, and to perform multiple short runs of (time?) and to simply skim off the goo. Do not wipe off the plates. You can flush the unit with clean water.

After several runs, the plates will build up a white patina after which scum formation will diminish and production of hydroxy gas will maximize.

I think what Schmitar is going for is maximum output with minimum input of electric power. This is the efficiency without which all your efforts will be to naught.

Schimtar is trying to reproduce the Meyers high voltage, low current resonant cell.

Much simpler experimenters (experimenters) report that the Smack's booster cells are simple to construct and give increases of miles per gallon of fuel of 10% to nearly 50%.

Higher increases are usually associated with other engine modifications - especially to the exhaust manifold oxygen sensor. (Caution, modifying the exhaust manifold oxygen sensor readings without input of water factors can lead to engine damage - usually valve scoring)(You should have available a return to default settings if your booster is off-line)

Other common modifications are to set firing timing closer to top dead center.

Some booster designs lead to high amperage draw to the point of blowing fuses and/or steam formation. So, you need to check out what it takes to limit current.

Re: Alternative Fuels-Using WATER to convert engine to a hybrid DIY!!Quote

Hello again,

Geez, It's been along time since I've done much analog work, especially high frequency. Getting a transistor to turn on and off at 30Mhz (large signal), at least the stock I have, is not going to cut it. I'll have to use a fast Op amp and power driver.

I also went back and scrutinized the previous setup with the pulse generator. Turns out it's a low impedance output. It was driving pulses of a good 200ma into the cell.

I have a lot of ideas of things I could be doing wrong with the Meyers VIC I built, Thing is it takes a long time to construct and try the variations. So as long as I pursue an atypical approach it's going to be awhile.

As someone so astutely pointed out if you don't already know the answer it can take a long time to find it.

My vacation is coming up soon and I have a lot of things to prepare for so I have to throttle back for now. Damn it!

Also as some here have suggested, perhaps I may step back and try as simpler approach.... well that may come to pass if I just want to attempt to construct one for a hybrid fuel system.

Anyway I'll be around trying a few things here and there, but I won't get back into it full time again until probably the end of July.

Most experimenters especially in the Bob Boyce camp are using Mosfets for the final output.

I have suggested vacuum tubes for their ability to withstand brute force and back emf factors.

Thyrotrons - especially.

My search for SS is over. When i bought my argon tank for my mig welder the guy tossed in a spool of SS wire for it and i didn't know. I cut a foot off and cut it in half and wraped both pieces around a pencil creating a spiral put them in water and VIOLA! put an ammeter to it and read .110 putting out some good gas for how small it was. Put a little lye in it and it went up to 3 amps! WHOA! it got hot fast rofl! but it put out so much gas i couldnt see the electrodes anymore. Anyone have any ideas on how to wrap up thin wire like this? Movies+Pics by the end of the week.

Here are pictures of the coils. Remember there are two interleaved coils on this form for both electrodes. Also remember it was a quick and dirty test coil just to have something to play with.

Tomorrow I will go to the local surplus electronics store and look for an RF generator. Else I will have to build my own...... really don't want to do that at this time.

Here we go. Took a chunk cover of my computer case and made a X for the SS wire and wrapped it around it. First time i did any wire wrapping of any sort. My hands arnt made for small precision shit like this! The first wire i wrapped around and the wire was nice and neat. Second wire i went to wrap it around and found out i skipped a couple teeth on the first one and fucked it all up and had to do it alllll over again. Now the wire is kinda bent here and there and some are touching each other so i have to go back with tweezers and bend the wires apart. Took the advice of a few and used some distilled water from my dehumidifier and wow what a difference in the goo at top! There was none! but i did have to add electrolyte to get the process started.
here it is with the first twine nice and str8

Hey Grower,

Looks good enough for government work!

Well....... I'm about ready to take a step back after one more experiment and go for a regular cell. I don't know what Meyers did, but it ain't what I'm doin.....Ha Ha.

So what are you using for an electrolyte?

i just tested my cell. I made it to fit into an old skippy peanut butter jar.I dipped the peanut butter jar into the water tank that my dehumidifier has and pulled up a bunch of shit with it. Yuk. I'm using some drain clog shit with distilled water. When i tested this cell only the top half produced anything. Im guessing i didn't do a good enough job to separate ALL the wires. at first i was testing to see if the wire wernt touching just by hooking it up to the battery and see if i get a spark. Went back to look over he wires again and you can visibly see where the wires were touching. They had a slight amber look to them. Testing it with a ammeter as i go along. Im still getting around 39-45 ohm but it was also still a little wet. I wonder if the water is carrying the very small current from my probe across the wires? About to go test it again.

somethings up with this. I think the wire is too thin. Ive looked over the wire multiple times and do not see any wire touching at all. When I go to use the cell the HHO bubbles only form on the first 5-6 lines of wire and the positive side of it gets hot i even tried this on both sides of the cell. if you let it run for about 3-4 mins the bubbles start to form slowly going down the cell but thats it. What gives?

This uses hot and cold air to create electricity for the process. Its also multi-fuel.
