I just finished reading this book the other night.
Robert Graysmith wrote the book that the movie was based on.

As for how he was able to draw the killer?

he's been leaving tricks all over his books and movies. nobody ever thought it was him, but he's the only one who never let the story die.

figure it out, think about it... the proof is right there infront of you.

According to his book, he lost his family and devoted a great deal of time and energy in doing research on the Zodiac. I can see your way of thinking though. He appears to be obsessed with the Zodiac.

Let me ask you this...why don't you reveal this information (everything you know) and you'll be famous. WHy pass it on to someone else on the Internet?

Always figured Graysmith to be a small guy. I imagine because Jake Gyllenhaal played him in the movie. Zodiac was described as heavy set, strong, intelligent. The pic above is scary looking.

In the late 80's, I read the book called "Zodiak". It was written by a reporter from the San Francisco (Chronicle or Examiner) who covered the story. Is this the same book/author that you guys are talking about?

Well, then the OP is on crack. Greysmoth was reporter and recipient of some of the correspondence from the killer (along with the police). I find nothing unusual about a reporter who covered a bizarre and notorious crime writing a book about it. The only sketches that I ever saw were done police artists.

I think the OP means that Robert Graysmith was a cartoonist at the San Francisco Chronicle and that's the "drew pictures" part.

What's weird is that the police gave Graysmith access to all the police files and he could've changed anything he wanted in them. They trusted him completely.

how i found this... a 15 year practicing buddhist. let's just say it was a focused meditation and a really cool computer program that required a decoder key.

What you say makes sense, but the problem is that the Zodiac, as intriguing as the story is, is no longer a hot topic for most. There are too many other interesting subjects to research.

I would love hear about what you've uncovered, but I honestly don't want to start investing time investigating the Zodiac. If you choose not to reveal what you know, that is, of course, your prerogative.

I would actually be more interested in how you figure things out using numbers and patterns. Is your method similar to Gematria? The bible reveals that God is the ultimate mathematician.

Graysmith was a new editorial cartoonist working at the San Francisco Chronicle when the first Zodiac letter arrived at the paper in Aug. 1, 1969, and Graysmith just happened to be in the meeting when the envelope was handed to the editor. The letter accurately described two murder scenes and promised more if the cipher was not published.

what are the odds... a new cartoonist/symbologist/boy-scout would just happen to be working a new job at the paper where the zodiac sent his letters. the only paper. the one place where the killer could effect and observe the outcome of his actions.

I am intrigued by your posts and the idea of Graysmith as the Zodiac. I know that Graysmith says that Arthur Leigh Allen is the Zodiac, but DNA tests after Allen died failed to make a connection to him.

To be honest, the fact that Graysmith changed his name to Gray Smith is what makes me most suspicious. And you're right - who else would know so much about it and be so obsessed by it?

Have you cracked his code? The one they couldn't crack? What does it say?

How do we know you aren't Graysmith?

Zodiac loves riddles and codes and being smarter than everyone else. And I would think he'd want to keep his legacy going as long as possible (if he's still alive)

What better way to do it, than on the Internet at different forums teasing people with tidbits of info. to keep them guessing and "saying the name Zodiac".

Probably way off here, but that's the initial feeling I got when you posted last night. While you give indication that Graysmith is actually Zodiac, something doesn't ring true with you. Why wouldn't "you" want the fame for announcing this discovery? What would be the purpose of trying to test people's intelligence and keeping all this info. to yourself? Why not solve the mystery yourself?
Something about that just isn't right.
