How do you know when a song has blown up?

How do you know when a song has blown up?

Is it when a radio station gets so many requests for it the DJ plays it for three hours straight? Is it when the song gets it's own wikipedia entry? Is it when acoustic versions and stop-motion bagel animations to it appear on youtube? Or is it when it ties with a Weezer song as the number one most played song on it's format?

Whatever it is, it seems fair to say it’s happened. The stories and numbers that come in each week make it clear that “Handlebars” is being heard by a lot of people.

So now what? Well, how about an animated handlebars video, appearances on Carson Daily and Jay Leno, and a full US tour? How about expanding our highly successful Street Team model and spearheading a nationwide Voter Registration drive? How about the fact that the album doesn’t even officially come out until May 20th?

All this and more is happening. The details are below, but one fact remains important to mention above all others, which is that none of this would be going on if it weren't for the community of people in Denver who have been supporting us from the very very beginning. We owe it all to the mile high city, and we will never forget this. Our goal is to make you proud.

Sincerely,

Flobots

A song blows up when the record label executives tell them to play it for you non stop.
Call a radio station and request a local bands song that is really good to be played and see what you get in response.

*Please* tell me you're not implying that what's popular = good. . .?! Wow.
