What Does a Mourning Dove Symbolize?
I had a mourning dove land on my balcony yesterday and then it stared directly at me for 3 minutes.

Was pretty weird. Have never had a bird do this before.

Does this mean or symbolize anything?

I have 2 that keep coming to my property here in Philly. Finally got them some food specifically for Doves and they are happy with it. I did find it weird as I have never seen them out front or in my area before, but that is why they are called wild...

Re: What Does a Mourning Dove Symbolize?
Several meanings. But the most symbolic, of course, is that it represents Spirit in all indigenous beliefs. Since we communicate and learn through our 5 senses, this is how Spirit can communicate through other creatures and reach us without inducing panic or stress.

It is common for one on a vision quest to follow the trail of a rabbit which crosses the path, or to head into the direction of a crow or hawk in flight. There will be messages and opportunities for growth in these encounters.

When a mourning dove lands on your balcony & looks at you for an extended amount of time, there is no need to be concerned for your physical wellbeing. You can believe that the message was of peace and love. The assurance that you are one with creation.

Dove's are THE sign for the Love of Twin Flames in the Kingdom. Sometimes Swans are used in the stead, but the Hebrew almost exclusively uses the notions of "Doves" and the "warmth of their mating" to denote the Love existing between the eternal couples of the Kingdom.

A Dove that was "mourning" would of course denote the breakage of the above arrangement, and many falling prey to the rebellion of old did indeed get "severed" apart. That's common to the notion of "falling", and too why so many call it "falling in Love".

I just experienced the same thing out my window.
There are 3 bird feeders and the dove usually eat
on the ground, but this morning one of them sat on the feeder
and stared at me.
In fact he is still there.
It is a true feeling of PEACE and one with creation.
Great stuff.

Re: What Does a Mourning Dove Symbolize?
The famous artist Pablo Picasso popularized the white dove as an artistic peace symbol when he created a lithograph of a white dove for the International Peace Congress in Paris, 1949.

The dove is a member of the pigeon family and both hold the qualities of home, security and maternal instincts.

Two represents the creative and feminine energies. Home and family are important to those with this totem and life lessons will be most predominant in these areas.

Since the dove is a ground feeder and eats mostly seeds those with this totem would benefit from a diet rich in wholesome seeds, nuts and grains. They would also do well in any health profession relating to nutrition.

The dove's song is its most distinctive feature. It can be heard throughout the day. The mourning coo of the Dove reflects hidden emotions stored within those who carry this medicine. How you perceive its sound often reflects the energies that are playing out in your life.

When dove appears it is asking us to go within and release our emotional discord, be it of the past or the present. It assists us in releasing trauma stored within our cellular memory. Humming can aid in this release.

When "Dove" makes an appearance to you it could mean:

People often find that unexpected and unseen support and assistance comes when they need it most.

Travel is often indicated when Dove appears predominantly, and this may include relocation to a new home

The White Dove has been a symbol of peace and safety since ancient time

In the Old Testament tale of Noah’s Ark, Noah released a raven from the Ark after forty days and forty nights of rain, and another forty days of waiting while the flood waters receded. The raven returned, having found no dry land. Noah then released a dove, which at first returned as the raven had, but later returned with the twig of an olive tree in its beak, signifying that the flood had ended and that it was safe to venture out of the Ark. This is why symbolic doves today often carry an olive branch

I have had a similar experience a few years ago where a dove sat in the middle of the road while i was driving along and i actually had to stop the car because it wouldn't move and it was staring straight at me for about a minute.
I don't think that is a stupid experience, or a waste of time, ignore people's stupid comments.
I think that it is the Holy Spirit. Doves are very biblical. They sybolise the Holy Spirit of God and peace.

Re: What Does a Mourning Dove Symbolize?
BIBLE DICTIONARY
DOVE, SIGN OF

A prearranged means by which John the Baptist would recognize the Messiah at Jesus’ baptism (John 1: 32-34). “The sign of the dove was instituted before the creation of the world, a witness for the Holy Ghost, and the devil cannot come in the sign of a dove . . . .The sign of a dove was given to John to signify the truth of the deed, as the dove is an emblem or token of truth and innocence” (Joseph Smith, HC 5: 261). See 1 Ne. 11: 27; 2 Ne. 31: 8; D&C 93: 15; Abr., fac. 2, fig. 7. Though we usually associate the sign of the dove with John the Baptist, from the latter reference we learn that it was manifested to Abraham also. We suppose that it has been similarly made known to other prophets on occasion since the time of Adam.
