Why do some people become so angry and nasty when they drink? Is it a mental/psychological thing or a chemical thing? Any insight?

Sometimes it's cuz they can't handle booze and the rage of self loathing rears it's ugly head due to the effect of lowering inhibitions alcohol gives.

Yep, I think it is hidden or buried pain that finds it's way out under the influence of alcohol.

Liquor seems to open doors that beer and wine do not, but I also think if it is happening more than it used to, there is a lot of unseen energy in the world today. Kinda like a buzz in the air that we can not hear, and perhaps they are attempting to drown that out, but you know what happens, it opens those other doors to the pain they have tried to keep underwraps.

Yup, pent up frustration, me thinks.
I have always been a happy, bumbling drunk, but my younger brother...he's fine until he reaches a certain stage of good and ripped, and it's like somebody flipped the rage switch.
Lesson I learned, when your drunk ass brother punches you, laughing at him only make him try to hit you again, lol. |

I think you are right. I have noticed this with myself a few times. I can drink beer all night but if I add some shots my fuse gets a lot shorter. But then again I am a Scorpio!

something i noticed back when i was drinking....
if i was in a good mood when i started drinking, i was in a good mood once i got drunk.
if i was in a pissy mood when i started drinking, i might switch to a good moood for a while, but once i got drunk, i switched back to anger. |

Those 'happy drunks' are under the same conditions, they simply aren't an asshole.
