Little Black Sambo, of course and Charlotte's Web! Great to re-read as an adult. The Giver by Lois Lowery is a great book also.

Does anyone remember reading "A Wrinkle in Time"? I think it was the first book I ever read cover to cover.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 345215

That is good book. By Madeleine D'Engle. She also wrote 'A Swiftly Tilting Planet' and 'The Wind in the Door.'

I read a lot when young. One of my favorite books was "The Forgotten Door" by Alexander Key (sounds like a pen name to me).

Also all the Marguerite Henry books, especially "Brighty of the Grand Canyon" and "Born to Trot".

any of the Dr Seuss books
I'm searching for all the books that made a difference to my childhood.

Having a young child is a great excuse to do all the great things that we did when WE were a child.

Don't know if this is the right forum for this...time will tell...very quickly I imagine.

No, I found that online somewhere a long time ago.

But back on subject, my favorite books when I was a kid were a set of Golden Book Encyclopedias (first series). The illustrations and graphics were so rich and vivid, it was like eye candy to a kid. When home from school sick, I had a stack of these in bed with me reading all day long. Good memories.
