Survival Kit For 2012
|
Prof-Rabbit User ID: 148352 5/15/2008 4:08 AM | | Re: Survival Kit For 2012 | Quote | Clean water.
You will need 3 large unglazed plant pots, preferably the type without holes in the center, (or use good quality corks to fill the hole) one larger plastic tub, one wooden chair. (plus spares)
Cutout the middle of the wooden chair such that a pot is firmly supported around two thirds to three quarters near its rim. (or use what you have to hand.)
Place the other pots inside each other so that you have a stack of three pots, fill the top pot with the raw water, place the plastic tub under the chair.
With time you will have clean water in the plastic tub, note: this water will be tasteless but very clean.
Larger pots produce more water, remove and scrub the top pot in clean water weekly, keep away from sunlight to reduce algae in the pots.
Three 12" pots will produce enough drinking water for two people daily.
Try this at home, use smaller pots but realize the quantity of water will be much smaller. |

What can we add to the list of long term survival! No cars, no gas, no electricity, no cell phones, No Pizzahut, no grocery stores!
People are the biggest assets! But can they produce more then they take? That is a big problem with the society we have today! Ask yourself are you a giver or a taker! That will be your first survival skill! Quoting: The Antichrist 666

Anonymous Coward User ID: 433028 5/15/2008 5:39 AM | | Re: Survival Kit For 2012 | Quote | If you have the time, a WFR (Wilderness First Responder, pronounced woofer) course would be highly recommended. It's a wilderness "first aid" course that goes a lot more in depth than your everyday first aid class. It's a pretty intense class, so be prepared to devote a lot of study time. TAlk to your local fire department about where you can sign up for the next one available in your area. The knowledge, though not absolute, is certainly invaluable. There are higher grade classes one can take after a WFR is completed, but it's a start. Great thread BTW. Thanks everyone for the input! |

Insect repellent
Or, garlic (you can make your own insect repellent).
Book on medicinal herbs.
Book on kitchen herbs.
Book on seed saving.
Lots of extra heirloom seeds (kind of hard to grow some things, may waste many seeds if you are not experienced gardener.

Also, recommend planting raspberry bushes, blackberry bushes, grape vines, apple trees, pear trees, peach trees.
You can even grow citrus trees if you have sliding glass door. They can be indoor during winter and outside in nice weather.

I do not know if this is mentioned on this thread yet is how about any research on Ultra Violet lighting for plants. Since its a real possibility of no sun light for some time, because of volcanic ash.

Can you say with 100% certainty that nothing will happen? If yes how do you know?
It is kind of like god, maybe I am wrong and there is no god but what if there is?
I would rather be safe then sorry.
My point is if were wrong so what we end up with a bunch of stuff laying around, but if were right what does that mean for you? Lets pretend that something does happen what is your plan? Like if yellow stone blew. Give a real answer. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 432833 5/15/2008 10:20 AM | | Re: Survival Kit For 2012 | Quote | Baking soda. And a still. I need instructions to make one. If society collapses, those who have the drink or smoke will always have customers and income. Helpful hint: get the type of poppy seeds with somniferam in the name. Like bread box or hen and chicks. There will always be a demand for a good pain killer, and no one to tell you you can't grow them. |

Learn how to calm other people down, because it's probably better to have friends than enemies.
