SOMETHING AMUCK IN CORPORATE AIR TRAVEL

I have worked at the same airport now for 18 years. We deal with the very rich, mostly business types, CEO's etc. I can't say any names but all of you would recognise the companies.

Our company tends to the needs of about 50 - 75 or so business jets per month. Challenger Jets, Falcon 200's, Gulfstreams, Citation X's and etc. The kind that are equipted with leather couches, bar's, work stations and gold plated accessories.

I have stood at the steps of many of these jets and greeted many hundreds of CEO's, families and crews over the years.

Many of them are very friendly, very apprieciative and want to chat for a moment or two when they get off the plane.

"How are you today?" "Nice weather here." "Bumpy ride over."
and, "It's nice to be back." kinda chat. Usually they're in a bit of a hurry to get into their limo or rental car, but always seem to have time to be nice.

However ! Over the past 6 months, we havent had 10 jets in.
We are dead in the water right now. Another co. on the same airport which does the same thing we do has laid off almost all it's employee's. Or they have left because they weren't getting paid. Also, Jet A fuel is over $8.00 a gallon and when your burning 400 gallons an hour, "thata Spicy Meataball."

Our company is much smaller and the owner has always been a sever Tight Ass, so we are still hanging in there.

The few people that we do see these day's come in and look very stern. They usually brush by with a quick hello and jump right into their rental or limo, and off they go. Another thing is that the jets used to sit all day or even for day's waiting for them to come back, but now they mostly just drop off without even shutting down, and then take off....literally.

I sense a feeling of urgency in them, and get the feeling something is wrong. Maybe it's just me.
But maybe everything "is" going south as they say here at GLP and the rich are feeling it too.

It may seem that these people are rich and have nothing to worry about, but think about this. These people also live to the limits of their income.
Where as, I may need $2500 a month to pay my bills.
They need to come up with probably 100,000 a month to cover their bills. Jets and jet pilots don't come easy ya know.
Not to mention butlers and maids and all the other rich folk quirks.

So I figure it this way. We're all feeling the crunch...But they have much more to loose. And ! I can imagine that after meeting some of their wifes, they cant afford to loose anything at all.

I really feel sad for those rich people not getting to jet around anymore. Maybe the gov can tax the starving and offer jetfuel rebates for them. There must be something they can do.

I have people that come to my store from every walk of life. From what you think are the dregs to the extremely well-heeled. The surprise to me is the "well-heeled" are befriending those less fortunate. All can see the storm on the horizon, but no one knows the shear intensity of that storm.
