... yeah, lol, I maybe have one for ya. The day before yesterday our rural route postal guy, Bob, got back in just as I was getting in from my route.... and he was telling me that the night before he was out in the country, in an old grave yard, and he dowsing graves. Actually he, was across the road a bit dowsing water for a farmer friend of his, and he saw the old grave yard and thought he's give it a try. He told me that he had heard of it before but had never really tried it... and it worked.
Course now, I just looked at him as he was telling me this, and then I said, "Are you fuckin' nuts, or what???... why, would anyone want to dowse for dead bodies?"
Well, he couldn't really come up with anything except that he had heard of it before, and... it worked.
Sooo... I came home and googled 'dowsing for graves'... and sure enough, there's a lot out there on it.
Have you guys ever heard anything of the likes though???... and cuz I sure hadn't?
And too... how it came to be was that a lot of times when folks were dowsing for water, it was an unmarked grave instead. And then also... it is said and if the dowser goes clockwise it's a male, and counterclockwise is a female... weird huh?
I did, years ago, I loved them, I didn't eat them, but did eat the eggs. They were free range and one use to follow me through the garden and eat all the grubs I turned up. Others took care of the bugs on the rose bushes. Awesome animals. Domestic turkeys were pretty stupid, though.

Lovely . . . I've heard they make good pets.
I am in the near future moving north and want to have chickens (for the eggs of course).
Do they need special care as far as their living arrangements particularly in a colder climate?
I'd like a goose or two as well. They say they make great watchdogs. “I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as fraud.”

That is a trip, but fascinating, was just talking about graveyards on another thread. A head full of dirt is what makes you enchanting, especially when you till it up for planting. [link to myspace.com]

How many feel that its time to not shop or drive as much due to big oil?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 425738
... well, lol, I already don't go shoping and/or drive all that much as it is... and as in about 40 bucks a month worth (well, and a bit higher now that I'm out there mowing again too... lol, not as often though)... and I just came back in from playing/working in me garden. But, then too... it's not so much about 'staying home', for me, as it is about 'being home'... and I do loves 'being home'.... and a lot!

... chickens are fun to have... and the only real carings involved in colder weather is just to make sure and give them a safe roosting place (hen house), and keep their water freshened up... and by that I mean like every couple of hours or so go out and break up the ice so they can get to the water... or, lol, change it. And, just keep plenty of fresh straw handy as well.

I kept them in Georgia and the couple of 20 degree nights I put heat lamps in there for warmth, but I don't know about the North. My biggest worries were predators, we were way out in the country.
I lined the inside of the house in chicken wire, but those big ass black snakes could find a way. And when I had baby chicks I kept them in rabbit cages off the ground and enclosed, mom didn't seem to mind.
They are cool pets, that one chicken followed me around like a dog, it was cool. Good luck!! A head full of dirt is what makes you enchanting, especially when you till it up for planting. [link to myspace.com]

Thank you Gooderboy,
With the exception of winter, can they get sustenance on their own with a minimum of chicken feed in the summer. In other words other than insects, is there any particular seed bearing plants that would be good to have growing around. Chickens that are free range do this don't they? I mean find food on their own as well as being supplemented by their caregivers?
Surely there has to be a better system of keeping their water from freezing. . .other than physically going out to break the ice every few hours!!
