great read--anyone say 45 to 50+ or those who think they love the music of the 60's/70's--

very entertaining, couldn't stop reading it. Jaw dropping to say the least.

This all sounds crazy, but could be true. If you realize who Jim Morrison's father was and all the other musicians family ties to military intelligence. Also, remember that 9/11 propaganda song Neal Youg did "let's Roll"

guarantee he doesn't get a big deal, more like he will end up dead or found in a closet wearing women's underwear on Meth. No way do they want this info going mainstream.

Re: Inside The LC: The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation
I just finished reading all of the chapters, and then I started remembering about Elliott Smith and the circumstances of his 'mysterious' death that is still open for investigation (although nothing has been done so far to pursue this case). He died 21/10/2003 from 2 stab wounds in his chest. It was first said to be suicide, but then they said it was inconclusive due to some signs hinting at foul play. The story goes that Smith and his then girlfriend, Jennifer Chiba were having a heated argument in their apartment in Echo Park, CA, when Chiba got so upset she locked herself in the bathroom. She then heard Smith scream and ran out to see him with the knife plunged into his heart. In a panic, she pulled out the knife, and then called 911. Unfortunately he died before they could save him. And apparently he left a suicide note. But anyways, his death has always bothered me because it always seemed very suspicious, especially the refusal of Chiba or basically anyone he knew to talk about it afterword.

Looking back, Elliott Smith seemed to fit all the criteria of the musicians of Laurel Canyon--he was born Steven Paul Smith to Gary Smith, a psychiatrist, and Bunny Smith. Shortly after he was born Gary and Bunny got divorced, and Bunny remarried this guy named Charlie, who most probably sexually/physically abused Elliott. Elliott says he does not clearly remember but memories seemed to be coming back.

His earliest memories are of his biological father playing The Beatles White Album for him repeatedly (makes mention of Helter Skelter in the interview). He got into alcohol and drugs from a young age that persisted all his life. He was also on a LOT of medication (depression, anxiety, anti-psychotics even though he said he didn't need it). He was suicidal and made several attempts before his death, which is why most people weren't surprised if he finally did commit suicide.

However,

just before Elliott's suicide he checked himself in to the suspiciously named Neurotransmitter Restoration Center in Beverly Hills which uses IV treatment "where they put a needle in your arm, and you're on a drip bag, but the only thing that's in the drip bag is amino acids and saline solution." (his words)

After that stint, he managed to stay clean until his untimely death. Which means he was clean and sober (giving up alcohol and other things like sugar and red meat) during his death. Added to that, he was in the middle of recording his final album, From A Basement on A Hill, and genuinely seemed excited about the process and to finish it.

Also not mentioned or followed up on in any of Elliott's stories I read is the fact that for a while back he was sure that there were white vans following him, and one of his friends even corroborates it, saying yeah when he was driving around with Elliott there were always white vans. One time a white van even tailed them to a drug store and when he and Elliott went into the store they even followed in and lurked around. *Why does no one else think this is suspicious or relevant??? *Also, does anyone know who these people might be? Who uses white vans to spy on people? Elliott himself thought that it could be DreamWorks (who he left to record his album elsewhere) or the CIA. In addition to this, his house was ransacked and several of his songs were stolen off his computer.

Finally, to end this long post, I was reading up on his death again and I stumbled upon something that pretty much shocked me. His neighbor at the time was none other than Kenneth Anger, Mr. Lucifer Rising himself. Ken even talks about Elliott in some interviews as if he knew him well. Stranger still, he made a short film entitled Elliott's Suicide and was showing it along with several screenings of his other movies. That just gave me the creeps. Maybe it's insignificant. I don't know. It's hard to tell anymore.

Anyways I just wanted to post something about this because I've never seen it being discussed before where the dots are connected in the case of Elliott Smith.

Macgowan is an amazing writer. Check out his series on the Apollo program, fascinating and seriously makes me doubt we went to the moon.

Eagerly awaiting the rest of the LC series. Been thinking of buying his books just to read more of his stuff, and I never buy books.

Re: Inside The LC: The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation
... hmmmm????... and okay okay, I've just read through all of those links there OP, and they are pretty much right on.... and as far as life in Laurel Canyon was back then anyways.

I lived in Laurel Canyon during those thar times... and like from 1965 through 1976 I lived at 1850 Jewett Drive (a rental) and then I bought the house next door (for $30,000) at 1860 Jewett Drive in '69 (just off of Ridpath and up from the Country Store to the west)

And I say 'pretty much right on' there, and cuz for example, lol, right across the road, or street, from Mama Cass's was actually almost a quarter of a mile away for instance (my most gooder friend and my doctor at the time, Dr. Walter Ellerbeck bought Cass's house in '71)... and, like Jackson Browne had already been living up on Lookout Mtn. Drive for a while, and so too was soon to be governor Brown also living up there on Wonderland for quite some time as well.

And too, at that time I was also working at the Ralph's Grocery Store nearest to Laurel Canyon, and located at Sunset and Poinsettia... or... about a mile and a half a way from me home on Jewett Drive.

My only disagreement though, and with what all is written there might would be... that the birth of the Hippie Generation, and so to speak... methinks/feels actually began springing up right after the death of the Beatnik scene. Well, and too... at first 'we' were known as 'Flower Children'... and the term 'Hippy' really didn't come into play until a bit later on... and as in like when the 'sleaze factor', or them 'Flower Power' wannabes kinda moved in that is... and just because the notion of 'Flower Power' was just becoming more and more mainstream popular at the time.

As for all of them deaths though... well... ya have to also remember that drugs in those days (LSD, Black Beauties, White Crosses, and the likes) was pretty much a free for all... and pretty much readily flowing just about everywheres ya went... lol, and I do mean everywheres too. And, I knew an awful lot of kids back then who totally flipped out on all of those kinda drug flowings as well.
