The Devastation is Beyond Human Understanding
You watch the TV in China now 1 week into the devastation of the
10,000 Square kilometers in the rural mountainous region.
Huge amount of resources are being allocated for the reconstruction
and survival of over 1 million people.

It is truly a great challenge for China to demonstrate concern,
and human feeling for the management of the disaster area.
All TV is to this requiem and reporting in day and night circumstances.
It will take China everybit of 2 years non-stop to rebuild the infrastructure
and keep people alive and with purpose.

We have really no understanding in comparison to what happened in
BAM Iran. It's on scale that has shut down all other TV shows for the
next 2 days.

Re: The Devastation is Beyond Human Understanding
Websites and local coverage in other countries doesn't do justice
to seeing for each effort to save 1 life in a ruined building:
20 military men and about 15 FEMA styled workers figuring out
a plan to move debris and save or remove a body.
Grown men day and night cry and the entire country took pause
yesterday for 5 mintues doing nothing but honoring the dead at
2:28 PM. There is a great sense of reverence to a cause and
purpose for China to stick together.

It's mind boggling to consider rural populations having to be so close
the natural elements for the next 3 months day in and day out while
plans are set to give focus to a reminder of what a normal life could be
like, for children and for families.

Vigils and fund raising are on going around the country.
The government of China has had to set up an entire new wing
of government designed to help resettle and plan for rebuilding.
this takes up enormous resources from other more concrete plans for
festive thinking for Aug 2008.

Most of the news announcers have to give pause with teary eyes
as to the wave of sadness in the reporting and live phone conversations
from Chengdu and provinces nearby.

Last night in Beijing we were waken by a mild tremor that made the
fish jump in their bowls. Time: 2:50 AM.

Survival stories are coming in all the time.
One victim, a CHEF, survived a 4 story pancaking of a building, and
had survived by drinking his own URINE and eating cardboard for 4 days!

It`ll take a lot longer than two years. Kobe city in Japan wasn`t back up on it`s feet for at least ten years.

Another woman policewoman breast fed 10 infants.
In the dead of night, 200 people are lead down difficult mountain trails
into safer quarters in the valley.
A group of 6 FEMA style workers carry one man a coal worker 6 hours
to a hospital.
Many many stories of amputees, after initial healing, patients are moved
over greater distances to Guangzhou.

Food resources are now being allocated from all the major noodle
and cooking oil companies to supply a government request for
10 percent of their stock to be allocated to the disaster for the next
year.

Re: The Devastation is Beyond Human Understanding
Relief efforts are focused on military efforts where 400 troops
made up of both men and women go into an affected area of
2000 lost to save hopefully 400.
Maps, orienteering, and com-lines are always shown as the Chinese
demonstrate a talent in quick response relief efforts.
Planes are stripped out and act as transport for victims.
Roads are being gradually cleaned back with super-large mining
vehicles to repair roads.
The Communist system is designed for quick response mechanisms
to give aid, and cultural relief during stressed times.
Tent making fatories are working over time to provide living arrangements
for the displaced. Every aspect of life support from medical to sleeping
gear is being put into motion.

Re: The Devastation is Beyond Human Understanding
I am amazed at the resilience and determination of the Chinese people. I am even more amazed at the ability of the nation to respond with enough food, clothing and medical supplies from within its own borders.

Rebuilding the infrastructure is another undetermined hurdle yet to cross. New shelters for 5 million people is a formidable task with winter fast approaching. How will China mete this task?

What effect is it going to have on the global economy? Because most assuredly, it will.
