The bottom line is you are smelling your noise hair or worst/ your inner nasal passages burning. This happens often with people who are exposed to the use of cocaine or any other nazal drug. Get your self checked out and stay of the dope.

smell of something burning and numbness in hands and feet may be a form of peripheral neuropathy. The important thing to watch is spreading of the numbness up either limb in a gradual fashion. Also, shooting pain, tingling and sensitivity to touch or temperature are indicative of peripheral neuropathy. See a neurologist that specializes in these types of neurological disorders. Medical schools neurology depts. are a good resource.

Pinky going numb- caused by use of non ergonomic keyboard, more than likely. Waking up in the middle of the night with racing heart is anxiety attack. Smelling a burnt smell that no one else can is most likely the result of having the smell in your nose hairs, try washing out you nose. Stay away from the doctors unless youre sure youre going to die anyway, doctors croak more people than drugs, car accidents and guns combined, statistical fact.

I have had that happen for 2 years... usually last about 5 - 15 minutes... now it last's longer.... finally went to the doctor... he thinks it could be a tumor or a temporal lobe seizure... got a cat scan it is clean and am getting an mri next week.... you need to see a doctor and be honest with him... it could be nothing.. but if it is something you need to catch it early on.

It truly is amazing how many stupid people there are in this world. The person has a real medical problem and all u can do is quote scripture or toss out mythologies? pfft

Smelling something burning and numbness of extremities is a serious problem. I hope everything turned out ok for this person and kudos for getting to a doctor a.s.a.p. rant

I've heard that too- something neurological. Better to go to the doctor and have some tests than ignore it.
Good luck, OP!

Shame on some of you! Don't give people carp when they think they have a medical problem! Not helpful.

Re: WTF!!!??? I smell something burning ...... but no one else does
If you smell burning randomly, especially the smell of burning hair, it is often an indication of a stroke. Strokes do not have to be severe. In fact, most strokes go unnoticed.

It isn't always a stroke though, but usually it's a Neurological misfire of some sort.

Otherwise, most of the people are this forum are retarded, and thankfully not doctors.

Going to the Hospital is optional. If it happens again go get it checked out, but they'll likely refer you to a neurologist.

Don't expect an answer. Doctors don't really have one. But if they suspect a minor stroke, they can at least advise you on some life changes to avoid it happening again, or more severely.

In short: Yes, it is a sign of stroke, but usually the stroke comes within a few seconds after the smell. However, no, it is not always a sign of stroke. Usually it's a sign of nothing.

I am having this same weird smell, like burning hair, or like when you first turn the heater on for the first time since last winter. It's been all day today, but I feel fine.

OMG, calm down everyone. Do you get migraines often? This is a "aurora" that some people get before they have migraines. Other symptoms might be blurry vision or seeing "floaters" or "rainbows" or even loosing site completely, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, etc.
I get this all the time because I have chronic migraines. It seriously smells like wires burning or hair burning or something and nothing makes it go away for a few minutes to a few hours. It's all in your head and will eventually pass, and you're NOT crazy. You're NOT having a stroke. Just a migraine, that some times feel worse. =P

Kind of smells like burnt hair or burning wires. I just started smelling it a few minutes ago.

I went outside , walked around keep smelling the same thing.

Is something wrong with me?

No one else I ask smells it.

Should I be worried?

I don't want to worry you... But most cases i have heard.... Odd smells that no one else can smell... it usually indicates a problem with the brain.... usually epilepsy or stroke... Just go get a check-up from your PDoc and let him know...

I have been having odd smells for awhile. It reminds me of car exhaust but it could be described as something burning. That and ringing in my ears. I'm certain it is related to the chemtrails somehow.

Re: WTF!!!??? I smell something burning ...... but no one else does
I experience this smell quite often. Nobody else seems to be able to smell it, but the sensation is very pronounced to me. After dealing with it for many months, sometimes for a week at a time, I finally discovered it is coming from compact fluorescent bulbs!

I can smell them before they actually burn out. Trying to determine where the smell originated was quite difficult. I was unsuccessful in determining the origin until I was replacing a bulb and held the old one directly under my nose.

Since I discovered the origin of that smell, I now have the ability to predict bulb failure up to a week in advance. Nobody else can smell it, and I mean absolutely nobody I know. The smell is so strong to me that it sometimes makes my eyes water.

This doesn't explain numbness, but check all your CFL bulbs closely! The numbness could be unrelated.

One more thing... Once I smell this crap, the smell seems to linger. I can still smell it for a period of time after removing myself from the environment where it originated. I have no idea why or how, but I also suspect this lingering effect is why I had so much difficulty initially discovering the source of the smell.

This smell your a smelling it's called Phantosmia
or a Phantosmia disease , it's not really common few of people suffered from it usually the cause of smoking too much cigarettes , drinking too much coffee or asbestos infection.

there isn't any medical terms that will help you , drugs are useless, this kind of disease come neutral it happen when you not realizing it , other people might call it neurological disorder by weird circumstances , in my opinion that's just dumb , disorder or not this kind of smell you having it's not really harmful just nuisance , i really hate to write this long but not all people understand sometimes.

 Quoting: kadalya 459644

I've been having almost the same thing. I keep waking up around 2:30am wide awake, like in a panic, smelling something burning. Its a weird smell like a chemical or something burning. I live in a half double home so I just think it may be my neighbors but at 2:30am?

Re: WTF!!!??? I smell something burning ...... but no one else does
I have for many years smelled things that others don't. Sometimes I find the cause, sometimes I don't. I have just written it off to either being more sensitive to odors, or more aware of them. As far as the numbness, I had that happen a few times, as well as dizziness and a drop in energy. What I realized was that I was spending so much time sniffing that I had reduced the amount of oxygen in my system. A few good breaths and a return to normal breathing sorted that out quite quickly. I'm not meaning to suggest that that is the only cause, but it has been so in my experience.

Demons. They do it to torment & confuse you.

I had the same problem.

I found prayer to God (through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ) helped a lot and I hardly get those phantom smells anymore.

Never underestimate the Power of prayer.

This Petra and its true, Demons. All demons have different functions. When the demons know that you believe in The living God, it torments you. The only way is Jesus. Since you believe there is paranormal, you also believe that there is a living GOD, pray and follow all Gods Commandments. And then angels will be given to you to protect you. I had once all the symptoms, because I fear God, and the devil sence that, due to I was serving 2 Gods at the same time. I acknowledge Jesus in my life, but also was pleasing and caresing evil thoughts, drinking, breaking all commandments execpt for the Sabbath of my LORD. A seventh Day Adventist pastor told me, from know on the only thing heard, seen, and read in your home be religious music, pray, read the bible and God will guide you. It hsppenedon October 2012, a very nasty plan from Satan to destroy me. All of you are looking for the answer in the wrong forum. All symptoms are spiritual, therefore are not seen by others only by an individual that walks with God. Any symptoms visual to others may be a health problem, and be carefull; ask GOD first.
