OMG, calm down everyone. Do you get migraines often? This is a "aurora" that some people get before they have migraines. Other symptoms might be blurry vision or seeing "floaters" or "rainbows" or even loosing site completely, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, etc.
I get this all the time because I have chronic migraines. It seriously smells like wires burning or hair burning or something and nothing makes it go away for a few minutes to a few hours. It's all in your head and will eventually pass, and you're NOT crazy. You're NOT having a stroke. Just a migraine, that some times feel worse. =P
