Are you annoyed at car wheels that KEEP SPINNING, when the vehicle is STOPPED? | |
Solar Guy User ID: 269684 United States 05/24/2008 07:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, I hate those things. They look like the vehicle is still moving when they stop at a light. Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support! :Brieffromnativea: |

G. House User ID: 438704 India 05/24/2008 08:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | These vehicles with spinning wheels, even when stopped, give off the illusion that the vehicle is still moving; and could cause an accident by causing another drive to over-react to the apparent "moving vehicle". Quoting: Anonymous Coward 432496If that is going to "throw you off" you shouldn't be driving. You apparently have a serious problem in spatial awareness. But since I doubt you'll quit driving, here's a clue! Concentrate on the vehicle itself and not the friggen wheels. Let's go a lttle further. What about wheels that are perfectly uniform? Say with trim rings and moon caps? With no lettering on the tires it is nearly impossible to tell if those are in motion either. Maybe we should just put lights on the car that show a special color if they are moving or not. What a stupid friggen thread. There's not enough encroachment upon personal freedoms these days that you have to bring up ridiculous friggen things like this? "Everybody lies." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 438675 United Kingdom 05/24/2008 08:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | they are distracting, but I think these things are also downright fucking hazardous. How long will it be until some toddler sticks his/her hand in to the pretty spinning thing in front of him/her? can't understand how these things got safety approval to be honest. we live in times when the safety aspect of EVERYTHING we do in our lives is analysed down to the last full stop, yet these hand choppers are allowed onto cars to allow some fucking Chav think he's ''COOL''? |

I think you got hold of the wrong end of the stick. OP is talking about those stupid spinning wheel trims that keep on turning after the vehicle has stopped. They are hazardous, because, spatial awareness or not, they create conflicting messages and could (and do) cause other drivers to react to a situation that may not actually be occurring. A good driver is always taking on board clues as to what other drivers are doing. These spinning trims are hazardous. In fact, I thought they had been banned in UK for this very reason, but may be I'm jumping the gun a bit. Perhaps it was only talked about. |

IDW User ID: 438816 United States 05/24/2008 11:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They do create the effect the vehicle is moving at a differnt speed than it is, and it is disorienting in this respect, and it doesnt matter how tuned your preception of relative movement is. It causes a conflicting visual message being sent to the brain. Now, here's the fucking clincher, and the real and obvious reason they should be banned. These cars park in areas where children are likely to be, they present a hazard to the child who may be inquisitive enough to tocuh one, or clumsy enough to fall into one severely injuring themselves. Ive already heard several horror stories that may or may not be true about such injuries. The danger is that a hand or finger can be inserted far enough into the wheel to literally chop it clean off. I personally like the way they look in some vehicles, but I wouldnt have them on any of mine for safety reasons, and liability. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 434254 United States 05/24/2008 11:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | did you look over and clutch your steering wheel in horror, as you thought he was moving? so what if hes moving, hes NEXT TO YOU, not infront or behind you, what does it matter if he or she is moving or not, they arent going to hit you... i'm more concerned with the people who's mouths move too much instead of their wheels. |
