What does sacrifice mean to some people?

For some having children is a sacrifice with myself it was not a burden or a sacrifice. It was a complete joy to give selflessly and many that have not had children never move into the space of selflessness. What do parents give up to put their children first? I remember my Dad saying that if he had not had my brother he would have had his Jag instead. LOL!

What sacrifices will humanity be forced to make to ensure that humanity remain on planet earth?

Personally I prefer the divine teaching of ESSENTIALS and it certainly is time for essentials. The positive will see this as a joyous renewal, the negative might view it as giving up or a sacrifice of that which they treasure.

There is always more than one way to look at things and our relationships with mother earth, the cosmos, God or anyone is not a one way street.

Can you have it all? Once again it depends on what and how you define all.

To be humble means not to ask for anything. Can people be contented with essentials? Only if they find the contentment, peace and true happiness within.

One person can look at a word and it can triggers old issues and the word 'sacrifice' certainly seems to be one for you to look at. It sounds like this is a past life issue for you. Another person can look at a word and it is water off a ducks back.

What resists persists it is the nature of the cosmos. Are people prepared to look at their triggers? Do they see self healing as a sacrifice? Or do they see it as brave and courageous like the Knights looking for the Holy Grail?

Everyone goes their own way until their own way does not lead them anywhere but into a cul de sac.

The writing is on the wall and the signs from God are everywhere.

I am intrigued by the mention of two quincunxes...multiple sacrifices... or a "squeezing out of whatever isn't in the nature of the productivity and cannot be contained in or focused through the nozzle planet."

Your post about seeing the glass half-full or half-empty assures me that this event will be a time of separation...the chaff from the wheat.

THE YOD
"Finger of God"


A Yod is formed when two planets make a sextile aspect and a third planet is opposite their mid-point. That third planet must make angles of 150 degrees with the other two. If you drew lines on the chart connecting the planets, you would get a Y-shaped formation that seems to point to one part of the horoscope.

That 150 degree angle is called a quincunx, a strange minor aspect that, by itself, is off again, on again, favorable, unfavorable. The two planets making the quincunx seem to be out of joint. Imagine two waves going into and out of phase, first adding and then canceling each other out and you have the picture. Because of this, it is always difficult to say what the effect of a quincunx will be at any particular moment.

The result is steadier in a Yod since the power is focused. The “energy” of the two planets making the sextile seems directed to the house and sign containing that third planet. The effect of a Yod is said to be “fated” or show some special destiny. Oh sure, it sounds really impressive when you tell a client “Hey, you have a special destiny!” However, that’s nothing more than a “Barnum statement” and really says nothing. All that is really going on is an emphasis on one particular area of the life. Nonetheless, this focus frequently seems driven, compelling.

By contrast, the T-Cross sets out a problem and pushes you to a find a solution in the “empty leg” of the cross. The Yod just pushes you and the solutions are seldom simple. It’s not nicknamed “The Finger of God” for nothing.

Here are some examples:

Ted Turner has Mars (action, energy) in his 10th house (career) making a sextile with Mercury (communications). The planet that completes the Yod is Uranus (originality, independence) in his 5th house (creativity). Uranus rules everything electrical, including television.

People with Uranus strong in their horoscopes instinctively try to do things that others say are impossible and will never work. Turner was among the first to put a local station on satellite. He also started the Cable News Network (CNN) which was expected to flop.

How about the great number of other people born on the same day as Ted Turner? Why aren’t they all rich and famous? First of all, that Yod doesn’t promise fame and fortune. It simply adds energy and originality to communications. In many areas of the world, these things are frowned upon and aspects like this will only get you into trouble.

Secondly, we have no way of knowing what success the most of those others have had since they are not famous.

Turner’s Yod gets an extra boost because Uranus sits on top of the Moon’s South Node. This adds extra comfort to what we are doing, do much in fact, that it may also seem like we’ve been doing that same thing all our lives.

Henry David Thoreau had Mars (energy, action) making sextile aspects with Mercury (communications) and the Moon (emotions, feelings). The point of the Yod is formed by Jupiter, which rules more than “luck.” Optimism, wisdom, philosophy, and publishing are other things in the domain of this largest planet in our solar system. Thoreau, of course, became famous for writing (Mercury) about his philosophy (Jupiter) of freedom and independence (Mars aspecting Jupiter in Sagittarius).

Gary Hart became famous for blowing his 1988 run for the Democratic presidential nomination by telling the press “Follow me all you want. I’ve got nothing to hide.” They caught him in a tryst with a woman who was not his wife. Back then, in that unenlightened age, this was the kiss of death for his political ambitions. Since that time, of course, Bill Clinton showed us all how to use extramarital affairs to increase your popularity. Gary Hart was born with the Sun in Sagittarius, a sign famous for saying whatever is on its mind. There is a direct channel between the Sagittarian brain and mouth with no filter in between. His Sun is sextile Mars (energy, action). The Yod is formed by the planet Uranus (the unexpected). When someone with a strong Uranus gets in trouble, they are likely to deal with it by ejecting from the situation. Senator Hart found himself faced with reporters who only wanted to ask about his non-political affairs. He abruptly dropped out of the race. A short time later, he tried to get back in again, but it was too late. Ah, if only he had gone on “60 Minutes” with his wife and told Mike Wallace that his private life was nobody’s business!

Oh yes, his Sun, which is part of that Yod, happens to rule his 5th house (romance) and is making a quincunx aspect with Uranus (the unexpected). He should have gone into media, like Ted Turner, instead of politics. Then nobody would have paid much attention to his monkey business. Coincidentally, “Monkey Business” was the name of the yacht that he was on when someone took a picture of Ms. Rice sitting on his lap.

Temporary Yods by Transit and Progression

Let’s say you don’t have a Yod in your horoscope. But if you have two planets making a sextile aspect (60 degrees) you still have a potential Yod. As the planets transit around the zodiac, they eventually reach the degree that is opposite the midpoint of that sextile and a temporary Yod is formed.

The Moon, for instance, will be at that point once every month for several hours. Take note of when it does this. For several hours on that day, it will most likely be a bad time to make major decisions. Too much emotion. The area of your life where this will tend to happen depends on the particular house that the Moon is transiting as well as the houses occupied by the two natal planets which make the sextile. And be certain to check the houses that those planets rule as well.

Progressed planets passing over that midpoint will have the same effect as transiting planets. However, they will hang around for a longer time.

Yods in Chart Comparison

Now what if you meet someone who has a planet in their chart that sits opposite the midpoint of your two sextile planets? This makes a Yod whenever the two of you are together and can add a compulsive note to the relationship.

This was discussed in detail in “The Yod Book” by Karen Hamaker-Zondag, a work that I highly recommend. She goes into detail about how this worked out in the Clinton-Lewinsky-Tripp-Starr affair and I am going to summarize her findings here.

Monica Lewinsky has a sextile in her horoscope between Venus (love) in Leo (28 degrees and 27 minutes) and Saturn (ambition and obstacles) in Gemini (28 degrees and 57 minutes). Venus sits close to the fixed star Regulus, the Royal Star.

An active Regulus in the horoscope is supposed to bring you into contact with royalty or, at least, very powerful people. It depends on the planet contacting Regulus on exactly how this contact is made and which part of the anatomy of the powerful person it will be made with.

Linda Tripp was born with the Moon in Capricorn (28 degrees and 6 minutes) and Jupiter in Capricorn (28 degrees and 51 minutes). This filled in the Yod in Monica’s horoscope and also opposed Monica’s Mercury, which was at 25 degrees and 7 minutes of the sign Cancer. Remember that Monica was born with Mercury in the 10th house and that tends to bring what you say before the public.

So here we have Linda Tripp who doesn’t like Clinton and thinks his behavior is immoral (both her Moon and Jupiter, her Sun-sign ruler in straight-laced Capricorn), she meets Monica, and their charts form that compulsive, fated pattern called a Yod. But the story, as we know, didn’t end here. The question still remains, why did this incident get that big and effect the entire country so strongly? Was it because it involved the president of the United States? So did the affairs he had with Paula Jones, Geniffer Flowers, and a former Miss America.

What’s the difference here? It turns out that Linda Tripp’s horoscope wasn’t the only one that filled in the Yod in Monica’s chart.

Let’s take a look at the horoscope of the United States of America. Yes, countries have horoscopes too. In fact, so does anything that has a beginning on planet Earth. The exact time when the Declaration of Independence was signed is in dispute. However, that doesn’t affect the sign position of the slower-moving outer planets. On the day the Founding Fathers put their John Hancocks on the declaration (including the original John Hancock), Pluto was in the sign of Capricorn, 27 degrees and 15 minutes. This gave Monica the potential to have a great impact on the whole country to the point of obsession (Pluto is the planet of obsessions).

Let’s put Ken Starr into the picture. His chart has the Sun in the sign of Cancer at 28 degrees and 37 minutes. Saturn is also in Cancer just a tiny distance away at 28 degrees and 30 minutes. Saturn making a conjunction with the Sun can make a person upright to the point of being uptight.

Notice how close all of these aspects are. Notice too, the tremendous effect that the combination of all these people had on the nation. All of them had strong contacts to compulsive Pluto in the United States horoscope.

Neptune is the planet of dreams and illusions. On the negative side, it governs self-destructive behavior, “self-undoing.” Neptune is also the planet of scandal. Where was Neptune by transit when all of this was happening?

I know that numbers turn off a lot of people, but please bear with me because detail is important here. Remember that Neptune moves slowly. It stays in the same area of the sky for over a year at a time. This makes its effects drag on and on.

Neptune reached 25 degrees and 15 minutes of Capricorn on November 7, 1996 and kept going until it went retrograde on May 1, 1997 at 29 degrees and 57 minutes of that same sign. Then, it went back to 27 degrees and 10 minutes of Capricorn where it stationed again on October 8. That’s only a tiny fraction of a degree from the U.S. Pluto. Neptune remained in Capricorn until January 28, 1998, which was the month those secretly taped phone conversations were made public and the scandal exploded.

On January 28, Neptune went into Aquarius and immediately made an opposition to Monica’s natal Sun in the 1st degree of Leo. Scandal and betrayal. It also opposed Bill Clinton’s Saturn. Neptune opposite Saturn can make you feel that everything you need for safety and security is dissolving out from under you.

Neptune, planet of illusions and delusions, went back to Capricorn from August 22 to November 27, 1998. The Republicans had the illusion that a scandal about an extramarital affair would be all they needed to sweep to victory. In an off-year election, when the party out of power almost always gains seats in congress, they lost. It turned out that most people didn’t care any more. Clinton survived. Gingrich resigned.

Most likely you won’t see anything this dramatic in your own horoscope or those of your friends and family, but check them out. See if there are any Yods.

Be sure to see if you have any sextiles as well. Remember, anyone who has a planet Opposite the midpoint of your sextile will create a Yod in your chart. It works the same way if one of your planets is opposite the midpoint of one of their sextiles. And don’t forget to look for a lone quincunx in either horoscope. There are two possible places, in that case, where a planet in someone else’s chart could still form a Yod for you. And then it’s off to the races. A relationship to remember. Even if you want to forget.

What is a Yod ?


The type of yod that I refer to is an astrological configuration. A yod within a natal chart is made up of 3 planets. 2 of these planets are 60* from each other, forming a sextile, and both are quincunx, 150*, to a 3rd planet. It forms an elongated triangle when looking at the aspect wheel.

Sextile:

The sextile (60*), is an aspect that gives opportunity. It is not the freebie like trine, and it is not a struggle like square or opposition. It is an opportunity for growth and favor. And in a yod, the sextile closes the formation which creates a flow. Open formations do not have the flow that a closed formation has. This can be good and bad, depending on how you look at it and how you use it. If you ignore the energy it just continues to flow around and around the formation like a nascar race. whoosh ! But, if you take that opportunity for growth from the sextile, the energy flowing right to it can lead you to a greater understanding and potential success. A yod is driven to lead you to your special purpose, your destiny and this would be the potential success you are shooting for. When you are on the right path, you will feel the joy of fulfillment. Something many of us Yod people have a very frustrating time finding in our life, so you will surely know it.

Quincunx:

The quincunx gives a feeling of frustration, irritation, and blockage. It is called an inconjunct because there is no common energy, no resolution. It is often the little things that frustrate or irritate you, and even those things you just cant put your finger on, but you know its there. This energy can become obsessive, trying to accomplish what you intended to do, or it can just give up frustrated and disappointed. I have yet to figure out when to do which. The closure of the sextile between the quincunxes in a yod, can really help. It lets the energy flow rather than jump start your blood pressure. But the closed formation also makes it bigger - more involved in your life. A quincunx on its own may lead to a frustration, and then its over - no resolution, but most of the time small enough infractions to get over.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

The entire configuration, Yod, is called the "finger of God." In other words, a special or compelled purpose. The energies definitely work like that in my life. I have known since I was very young, that I had to do something of purpose. That an ordinary 9-5 job would not do it for me. However, it has been a roller coaster of an adventure, trying to find my purpose. I believe I have found it in Psychology, Astrology, writing, teaching,and healing. Well, I do have several yods. (smile)

This energy is compelling and often frustrating. The frustration comes with not being able to put your 'finger' on what it is that you are trying to accomplish or do. It comes from society messages that we must go to work every day and probably not enjoy it much to provide for ourselves and our family. I feel that human nature has made this energy frustrating, but its purpose is to reach higher, further, and out of the ordinary. I feel that it is very spiritual, on whatever level speaks true for you. It is a compelling force, almost obsessive, that leads us either to a life of frustrated and wasted efforts, or a higher plane of serving the Universe with our given gift.

For those of us with quincunx or yods in our charts, we know it is not a minor part of our life. Often it is such a strong compulsion and frustration, it colors the rest of our life significantly. The minor concept may be attributed to the ambiguity that comes with the quincunx. Often its the "little things" that we can't quite put "our finger on." This is the energy of the quincunx, the constant re-adjusting and frustration. With a yod, it is a closed formation; 2 of these quincunxes from the same point re-adjusting and frustrating at the same time, closed by a sextile or opportunity to find the outlet.

Imagine if you will, a center of energy forcing out to 2 points at the same time and frequency, in such an ambigious manner and against what society has taught us to make sense. This force of energy is waiting to be used. When not used, it merely shoots waves of hard to define spurts that we aren't able to synthesize. This is how a yod works. However, when we start to dismiss society's messages, and find our place, often through self awareness and healing, we are then on an unstoppable course of destiny and purpose.

The opportunity is to let go, release, sacrifice the ego. When we are caught in the energy of frustration, that becomes the block itself. This is the call of the yod; to let go of the frustration, the earthly need, the pride, to rise above, and take the path of least resistance. It is the finger of God, and teaches us that what must be sacrificed is typical human response and needs.

In My personal chart.

Quincunx and yods are the primary influence in My natal chart. If quincunx were not plotted, it would seem bare. This may influence my perspective that quincunx is not a minor aspect, and do not get enough focus. I have a debatable amount of yods, depending on what orb or placements are used. I typically use a 2.5* orb for the quincunx and 5* orb for sextiles. However, according to Joan Kellogg and my agreeing intuition, if it feels like a quincunx and its working like a quincunx in your life, it is a quincunx even if the orb is bigger. In my case, because the quincunxes or controversial legs of the yods are conjunct placements that are within orb, in my opinion, they are quincunx too.

However, Karen Zondag's Yod Book, discusses this controversy on orbs. She brings up the fact that if an orb is extended on a quincunx it comes within orb of other aspects, and would take on different characteristics. This is a valid point, and I don't completely disagree with her, but I give credit to intuition and subjectivity in this case. If it feels like a quincunx and is working in your life like a quincunx, then it probably is a quincunx.

Concerning Points -- I do count nodes, chiron, and the angles as points of a yod. If you never use the nodes in interpretation or chiron, and you bring it into your chart just to create the yod. This might be questionable. But if it leads you to great insight, then I'm all for it. I feel the same about asteroids; if you typically work with them, or if it gives you some great insight to include them, then heck yeah, they count. But if you are just stretching to find something "cool" then no. Like when we are first learning astrology, we try to stretch those orbs and create more trines, or find something new but ignore the deeper messages of what is already there, then I dont think its too valid.

For everyone that says wow, you have yods, you have a special purpose. (hahhahaaa) This is not an easy path what so ever, and is often a frustrating and painful road. Yet it can be rewarding, if we allow our ego and human side to be constantly released or sacrificed. :)

Finding insight into the yods has been a difficult road, but very rewarding. Understanding the affects / energies of yods provided insight into my life, understanding of self, and inspiration to find that special path that it suggests. I feel strongly that others with yods in their chart feel the same and can be helped significantly by learning more about yods. The Yodbook is a great step in this direction. Yet many astrologers who are counseling do not have the information and / or still consider it a minor aspect (not a big deal right?).

All humans are called to a higher place, a person with a yod is constantly pushed there. Is this a blessing or a curse ? The jury is still out on that one.

I was also intrigued by the quincunxes because it links in with the moral compass article that I am working on and the word 'quincunx' has more than one meaning. The word is also not restricted to astrology. I was reviewing the Saturn in Virgo thread earlier today and when the above was originally posted; the word 'quincunx' had completely passed me by. I simply had not noticed or registered it.

Yes the chaff from the wheat....the message received in April was that people are stuck between two different timelines, between the old root causes and the new cause. Just now told that there are a conglomerate of light beings on planet earth now and reminded again that the saints will be sorely tested. The sifting continues of the elect due to the pecking order of the divine plan.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ASTROLOGICAL CHART
The Sun is at 0 degrees Capricorn, the point of the December solstice. It makes a sextile to Neptune, right at the beginning of Pisces. This is an almost exact sextile. The orb is less then half a degree. This aspect can point towards a spiritual experience, a loss or both.

The most important configuration is a yod which we find in the chart. This is also called the Finger of God. It looks like an arrow in the chart and it indicates change and transformations. .

The yod consists of:
1. A quincunx (150 degree aspect) between Jupiter and Pluto.

2. A quincunx between Jupiter and Saturn.

3. A central opposition (180 degree aspect) made between Jupiter and the Mercury/Venus conjunction.

The two quincunxes are almost exact, they have an orb of less then half a degree. In fact the quincunx between Jupiter and Pluto is exact at December 21 2012.

THE MEANING OF THE ASTROLOGICAL CHART

Pluto is the planet of radical transformation, death and rebirth.

Saturn is the planet of the earthly realm and of learning experiences, especially those of a more painful nature.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion. It is the focus of the yod, the planet which receives the strong energy of the other planets involved. It also expands the energy of the other planets involved (especially Saturn and Pluto).
This yod indicates transformational processes which can be painful for many.

Jupiter has a central place in this because it is the focal point of the energy. This indicates changes in our religious systems, beliefs, philosophical systems. These fall under Jupiter.

Terry Wilson reveals that the first known appearance of the quincunx was in the 1950s in Heytesbury, Wiltshire, about the time of the first recorded crop circle in Mexico (in sweetcorn!). Mexico also had its own quincunx in Milbaheta in 1977.

A bump for those that might have missed this thread.

It certianly is a time for the process of elimination of that which does not serve people anymore.

Forgot to mention to the person that mentioned the 'golden fleece' I can take those two words as part of divine intervention mentioned a few years ago. The divine prediction about the golden fleece is still to manifest. However, if it comes to be it will be mighty indeed. My sense is that the man who was meant to retrieve it has not done so yet.

I have been going through a tremendous amount of changes recently.

Stepdaughter (29 1/2, 1st Saturn return) who has not been in contact for 7 years calls and after a long ordeal to get here arrives with her 2 children, 8 and 10. (Also, 2 dogs, 3 cats; reason for long ordeal). Husband (58 1/2, 2nd Saturn return) feels totally renewed and we are starting over again it seems. Our daughter has an accident in a car and winds up with a compression fracture (thank God that's all) and has to be in a brace for 12 weeks. She just graduated HS last week. She will be going off to college in the fall. We are trying to make a place for her and the kids and she will have a job at least. So it has been very busy but very fateful so it seems
