I made the case in front of a group of realtor years ago about the nature of the cell phone radiation they were exposing themselves to and was met with an angry rebuke-screw em for being so stupid and focused on money. |

I always use the ear plug and almost never put the cell phone next to my ear. Long term effects of these things will start showing up soon. |

I've been looking and I can't find anything that calls this myth. It just doesn't seem plausible. A microwave takes many seconds (like about 60+) to start popping the kernels. and the energy level is so much greater with a microwave! Hrmmmm... makes me wonder if Mythbusters should take this one on....

If anybody has a video where a glass table is used so you can see that there is no heating pad under the tablecloth or heating element under the table - please post that, otherwise I'm still a skeptic |

there was a thread about this on here yesterday morning and i told everyone at work about it and showed them the videos. so we decided to try it out during lunch. it didn't work. we tried it with both microwave popcorn (which when we opened the bag had some kind of butter or crisco or something all over it ...even thought the bag said "natural".... and we wiped that off) and with regular popcorn from a bag that you would pop on the stove. we even sat down seven ringing cell phones as a last ditch effort. no success. it was fun to joke about all day though :D |

maybe they're putting a laser on the kernels? or soaking or covering them in something? what comes to mind is those MRE's. i don't remember what was used in those to make the heat....been a while since college chemistry...lol |

Well I thought if it was a heating pad or something there should be more evidence of it. But after readingg kaj's post I agree it could be a trick. I guess the best way to find out is to try it.
My guess is the kernals could be soaked and softened up and possibly heated before hand. I really dont know, but I still find the videos compelling. |

How many of us use four cell phones all at the same time, all aimed at our heads? I'm willing to concede that there may be some problem with radiation, but this is ridiculous. You can take almost anything, misuse it, and do damage to yourself.
And, I wonder what we're not seeing as added impetus to cause the popcorn to pop. |

Not even remotely.
Wood isn't a good conductor of heat. Get a small enough heatpad and it will pretty much heat up with is directly above it, and nothing to either side of it. My external harddrive does that. Heats up the exact area it is on (not to burning temperature, but enough to probably pop popcorn), but nothing surrounding that area. Also, hard plastic like that is going to have a melting point probably at the temperature it takes to burn wood (though it may warp sooner, but so would wood).
Also, they could have just used a ceramic heatlamp poised above the camera's FOV. No light, just heat. |

This is a real phenomenon...cellular phones use the microwave frequencies much the same as your oven does...the power is much lower of course, typically 6 tenths of a watt or less, but the proximity of human tissue to the radiator is what makes these things so dangerous....I have installed cell tower transmitters and became interested in the effects...especially since I know some of the dirty insider tricks of the industry... |
