Amazing how nobody calls me a fool, idiot, woowoo, or worse when I claim the sun is too far south.

Summer forecast for Canada is hotter than normal

"What's sort of surprising is the extent of the warming," said David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada.

"It's a huge country and it looks like everyone in Canada, apart from those living on Vancouver Island and the south coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, could be experiencing a warmer than normal summer."

This would be the 19th summer out of the past 25 with above-average temperatures, but it's rare that so much of Canada is affected all at once.

Mr. Phillips expects Canadians in Southern Ontario and Quebec will give the summer a warm welcome after a winter packed with record snowfalls. May was cooler and rainier than usual, bucking the usual trend of a few hot summer-like days. This likely kept people from turning on their air conditioners and running up hefty energy bills, Mr. Phillips said.

But they will likely rush to get them started by the weekend when the temperature rises to 32, nine degrees warmer than normal, he said.
