Sickening news - School District pranks students - tells them friends are dead.
This is one of the sickest, lowest things I've ever heard a school district cook up.

It's like a lesson in how to create angry, distrustful youth.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. - On a Monday morning last month, highway patrol officers visited 20 classrooms at El Camino High School to announce some horrible news: Several students had been killed in car wrecks over the weekend.

Classmates wept. Some became hysterical.

A few hours and many tears later, though, the pain turned to fury when the teenagers learned that it was all a hoax — a scared-straight exercise designed by school officials to dramatize the consequences of drinking and driving.

Screwing with their emotions to "send a message"?????????

What the hell?

Surely there's a better method than this!
What the hell were they thinking to do this to kids?

When the ends are Blind Obedience to the State, any means justify them.

How is this any worse than when they tell them that Jesus died for their sins and they owe him a lifetime of spiritual compliance or face eternal suffering? That is a worse prank.

That is so screwed up, as one who has gotten that fateful knock on the door, Jesus Crow (ok, lived in New Hampshire for a bit), but damn, that is so un-right and un-just. Scared straight? How bout scared into distrusting any asshole that wears a uniform, we used to be taught to trust those dudes, this generation is learning something new and distructive.

sweet.

did they round up the teens to go to the jail and get their 'vacinations' on the way?

Don't forget who owns the children....

Hint, it's not the parents.

With kids worrying about the possibility of being gunned down by a disgruntled classmate, I kinda doubt this was a good idea. Perhaps the faculty should have a prank played on them such as "there will be a random urinalysis this morning for all staff, no exceptions. Anyone with a contolled or uncontrolled substance found in their system will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

The California school district really duffed it. They need to fire whoever put that stupid stunt together. They created the emotional trauma, but nothing else...the kids were tased, so to speak. They won't have any lasting impression other than that they were lied to.

Several schools here in Texas participate in a program called "Shattered Dreams." It's a full-fledged reenactment, and very compelling.

I have a family member who participated in one of the reenactments this year. I have seen the rough-cut video, and even though I knew exactly what was happening and why, I bawled like a baby. Seeing my family member in such dire straits, even though it was "play acting," complete with stage makeup, had a massive impact on me and on my family.

In "Shattered Dreams," the police and EMTs are real, and they are running a real exercise. One of the victims in the one my kin was in had to be "life-flighted" away from the 'accident scene,' all the while being attended to by the medics as if the victim had REAL injuries.

That victim was later pronounced "dead." Even the hospital was involved in the entire exercise.

During the day of the "accident," the "GRIM REAPER" came to the classrooms and pulled out one student every 15 minutes to symbolize the numbers of kids killed in alcohol-related accidents.

The next day, there was a "memorial service," and the parents and spouse of the "victims" in the initial accident were eulogized. In addition, several of the speakers were the surviving family members of real DUI victims.

It's very powerful.
