The big thing that will happen is that The Milky Way Galaxy center, The Sun and The Earth will be on a line in all the 4 dimensions (3D space + time).
This event happens only twice in around 26000 year, so it's really big astronomical marker of time!
What else will happen is just speculation. No one knows for sure, as no one was there the last time it happened. So, please, don't make histeria among the people, as this is pointless. Try saying only what you know. What you believe is real big shit and is true in your mind only ;)

What kind of story would the Governments come up with to "explain" the sudden disappearance of several hundred thousand people in the US alone. More world wide of course. But that many in the US

There are groups who believe in a pre-tribulation rapture of the church. That means that (according to the bible) a large number of believers are going to literally be caught up into the air and meet Christ there. He takes them out of this world until the last 3.5 years of history takes place, and keeps them safe until all that was foretold in Revelation takes place.

So if you were the US government and you wanted to chalk this up to something - anything - other than the truth... what lie could you possible make up and sell everyone on?
