Smoking banned in your own CAR!!

If the government is making so much money off of cigs then why do they want to make it so hard for people to smoke? That is the real question. Is it because one of these days we will have government health insurance and smokers would be a drain on it? There has got to be an answer here. The government does not care about our kids. They make their minds mush in gov. schools and they poison them with vaccines. If they start fining people for being fat then I know it has to be about gov. health care. Or health scare. It is always about money. Not our health. They could care less if the majority of us died. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 453476
It's not what they make off the people that truly matters....it's what they make off the lobbyists. Tobacco companies are passe. Evangelicals are where it's at.
I've been a smoker since I was 14 and I'm almost 50. The only times I have ever gone to the doctor are for my children's births. I've been no drain on the system. |

Here's the truth as to why the government wants to ban smoking altogether. It's called the blame game: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 453706
I agree with that article except for the part about them wanting people to stop smoking. I don't think they want people to stop.
First they are making tons of money off smokers.
Then there would still be people getting lung cancer and they could still blame it on the smokers.
Then there is the fact that they proved the tobacco companies were adding addicitive chemicals into the cigerettes and after winning their case against the tobacco companies they never forced them to stop adding the addictive chemicals. In fact they now add chemicals they just might actually give you lung cancer. So its a win win situation as more people die then they save tons of money not having to pay out Social Security and medicare. |

Smoking should be banned all together and the sale of tobacco products illegal. I smoked for only 8 years and my health is ruined.
Do not smoke... when it damages your health for good you will regret ever smoking AND you will be too ill to live a normal life, not worth it.
You're another f*ckin' nut. I've been smoking for over 50 years and I'm fine. Just because you THINK smoking ruined YOUR health doesn't mean it ruins everyone's.
Why didn't you read the research that has been done before you posted your nonsense born of ignorance?
. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 453706
Smoking DID ruin my health... You are very lucky that your health is not ruined YET but the point is it can ruin someones health without warning. So just because someone can smoke for 50 years without problems, that doesn't mean everyone can.
I smoked about 5 cigarettes a day at most and was fine for 8 years and enjoyed smoking, then this year in March i started getting breathing problems at night, I would go to sleep and wake up gasping for air. Then i started getting nervous feelings in my chest and small sharp stabbing pains around my heart. After this i quit smoking for 2 weeks. The breathing problems continued for a few days after quitting and then went away.
After 2 weeks i smoked again and the sharp stabbing chest pains returned that same day only ten times worse, the pain felt like a squeezing ache on the left side of my neck that radiated to my chest, the chest pain felt like a massive rock had just landed on my heart and crushed it.
I have not touched a cigarette since then, that was back in April and i still get those chest pains whenever i walk places or run a small distance.
I fear i might drop dead of a heart attack every day, and for what? 8 years of inhaling toxic fumes, not worth it. |

America and Prohibition
Smoking bans and restrictions found little favour in the developing Industrial world of the 19th century. However in the USA as the century drew to a close moral crusaders outraged by the consumption of alcohol and tobacco by American people began to demand action by federal and state legislators. This culminated in an amendment to the American constitution which allowed for the prohibition of alcohol in 1920.
Believing that prohibition might be "for their own good" Americans at first seemed to reluctantly accept it. However they rapidly grew disenchanted with the oppression. The rich and powerful colluded and rubbed shoulders with gangsters in efforts to maintain the flow of alcohol. Speakeasies flourished, hip flasks became a popular symbol of defiance.
Lucy Page Gaston of the
Anti-Cigarette League 1900
During this period the imposition of smoking bans reached a zenith with the sale of cigarettes banned in 15 states. However by 1927, Kansas became the last state to repeal it's ban on the sale of cigarettes. Other than making the crusaders feel good, prohibition had proved an unsuccessful experiment in social engineering leading to many disastrous consequences. Prohibition was eventually lifted in 1933.

Smoking Bans and the Third Reich
Hitler was a fervent anti smoker and a crusader for the anti-smoking cause. He personally funded research into the dangers of smoking and little wonder those results given the nature of his regime tended to support his assertions that smoking was an evil the Aryan race must be rid of. Many of the studies carried out during the Third Reich are the basis for the arguments put forward today by those seeking the imposition of repressive smoking bans.
Hitler once stated that tobacco was "the wrath of the Red Man against the White Man" Under the Nazi's the Bureau Against the Dangers of Alcohol and Tobacco was established in 1939 followed in 1942 by the Institute for the Struggle against the dangers of Tobacco. Nazi's were the first to coin the term "passive smoking"
Under the Nazi regime the German people had imposed on them the most comprehensive set of tobacco regulations and restrictions seen in any modern nation to that date. Hitler himself took particular interest in this area often personally overseeing the drafting and implementation of anti smoking policy.
"I am convinced that if I had been a smoker, I never would have been able to bear the cares and anxieties which have been a burden to me for so long. Perhaps the German people owe its salvation to that fact."
Adolf Hitler 1942
Bans And Restrictions in Nazi Germany

Blanket smoking bans were introduced in many cafes, bars and restaurants
Women below the age of 25 were banned from smoking
Restaurants and cafes were barred from selling cigarettes to all female customers
In July 1943 it became illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to smoke in public.
Smoking was banned on all German city trains and buses in 1944. This initiative coming from Hitler himself, who was worried about exposure of young female conductors to tobacco smoke.

I think they put a hefty sales tax on ciggies because so many quit smoking. The ones who didn't have to take up the slack in lost revenue. As revenues further decrease, they will next tax the fat people, probably by the pound, and fine them for their overweight children.

I think the only real danger is in the huge number of additives that can go into ordinary ciggies.About 600 to choose from.

Smoking pot is illegal but yet people still do it. My point is if they want to ban smoking then they can easily quit putting addictive chemicals in them.
I think they want to demonise smokers so they can blame them for all of societies ills like the article said. But they still need smokers around to have a patsey.
Just saying smokers can't smoke here or there is not going to make them stop. The addictive chemicals are very hard to beat.

If I were to go burn tires, plastic bags or other harmful substances outside his window and let the poisonous smoke enter his apartment I would be arrested, why should he be able to do the same to me?
Ban smoking everywhere apart from open spaces and detached private residences. $10,000 dollars or a week in jail punishment for non compliance.
that is all. |
