Yeah but there is that pesky little trick you have to pull off.. CATCHING ME smoking.
I lived in California for years, I smoked wherever I wanted to. In bathrooms, in bars, in clubs.. where ever I wanted to when ever I wanted to.
Made me even a better sneak.. and I never once got caught.
I still smoke in non smoking hotel rooms, even the marriot that makes you sign an agreement saying you wont smoke. Never been busted and never WILL be busted.
The only upside of this is it makes people angry, and angry people get very very sneaky and creative. :)
So in a nutshell.. YOU LOSE. |

I smoked about 5 cigarettes a day at most and was fine for 8 years and enjoyed smoking, then this year in March i started getting breathing problems at night, I would go to sleep and wake up gasping for air. Then i started getting nervous feelings in my chest and small sharp stabbing pains around my heart. After this i quit smoking for 2 weeks. The breathing problems continued for a few days after quitting and then went away.
After 2 weeks i smoked again and the sharp stabbing chest pains returned that same day only ten times worse, the pain felt like a squeezing ache on the left side of my neck that radiated to my chest, the chest pain felt like a massive rock had just landed on my heart and crushed it.
I have not touched a cigarette since then, that was back in April and i still get those chest pains whenever i walk places or run a small distance.
I fear i might drop dead of a heart attack every day, and for what? 8 years of inhaling toxic fumes, not worth it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 453744
Smoking 5 (or even 55) cigs a day over the course of a lifetime doesn't cause the symptoms you've experienced. What DOES cause each and every symptom you've described, however, is an anxiety disorder. A long time ago I went through a bout of generalized anxiety disorder and I had the exact same things happen to me. Before I figured out what was happening I'd progressed into having panic attacks as well. On several occasions I was certain I was having a heart attack and even went to the emergency room a couple times - convinced that I was on death's doorstep. My EKGs and EEGs were all perfectly normal and the docs always diagnosed me with anxiety disorder. I had the hardest time believing that something as simple as anxiety could cause so much physical discomfort, but in the end I had no choice but to accept that this was the case. I smoked through this problem, and continued to smoke through the past decade or so since the problem was solved.
So, your health isn't ruined. An anxiety disorder is an emotional problem that stems from one's inability to property manage feelings of either fear or guilt (or both). Since you think your way into this disorder, you can also think your way out of it. The best way to rid yourself of this problem is to educate yourself about it and then face it down. And, if anything, smoking would be a great help in keeping you calm (natural MAOI inhibitor in the smoke itself) as you work through your issues. |

No, I am the poster you quoted and i wish it was only anxiety related and could still smoke but the problem is in my neck.
I have a hard/clogged artery from smoking, this means that when i do something to increase my heart rate, like excercise or running, there is not enough blood circulation getting to my heart and this causes heart attacks. I need to take medication from now on or it wil get worse and block completely, if this happens i will die. Thanks to smoking. |

The real idiot fuck-ups are those who believe every piece of propaganda pumped out by the pharmaceutical industry (and their associated "charities") concerning secondhand smoke. The so-called danger of secondhand smoke is the biggest and most often repeated lie of all time.
Statistically, the risk of secondhand smoke is far smaller than the risk of getting lung cancer from drinking pasteurized milk. Epidemiologists use “relative risk” (RR or Risk Ratio) as a means for gauging the severity of risk. The U.S. Surgeon General has stated the RR for secondhand smoke is between 1.20 to 1.30. The risk for lung cancer from drinking pasteurized milk is 2.14. And the relative risk for getting cancer from drinking the municipal tap water that tens of millions of Americans drink every day in thousands of cities across the U.S. is 2.0 to 4.0. But where are all the dead bodies from the millions of people exposed to this far higher risk? Do you know of any? So how can secondhand smoke, which has a far lower relative risk, be killing thousands of people as claimed? In 2001 the International Agency for Research on Cancer, in Lyon, France, reported: “ETS exposure during childhood is not associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. No clear dose-response relationship could be demonstrated for cumulative spousal ETS exposure.... Even exposure to ETS from other sources was not associated with lung cancer risk.”

Why on earth are you so certain this is from smoking? It takes at least 20 years of pack-a-day smoking to develop anything approaching the problem you have, and even then, only in the most vulnerable of people, (and even then, only if you believe the pretty shaky "evidence" on this topic from the scientific community). And you get the same toxins (but in much higher quantities than 5 cigs a day) just from driving/walking down the street. If chemicals and toxins are to blame for your clogged artery, then you should be a candidate for death at any moment whether you smoke or not.
How's your weight? You have sleep apnea, and that is almost exclusive to those with extra pounds - not smokers. What's your family history for heart disease? There are so many risk factors for your problem that outweigh smoking that it may turn out that your own myopic thinking is what kills you in the end. Honestly, if your problem is physical it sure isn't "thanks to smoking." It can't be. There's a doctor (big time, famous, anti-smoking advocate) who blogs about this heart attack propaganda all the time based on his assessment of the science - not the headlines. If you believe that any human being on the planet has gotten lung cancer after a year of smoking, then you may as well believe me when I say that I'm the
Tooth Fairy. I've been researching this since before you were born, and I can promise you that such is not the case. Only 5%-15% of LIFELONG smokers (depending upon which studies you look at) get lung cancer, which isn't a heck of a lot different from lung cancer rates in never smokers.
If you found this problem at age 23 then your risk factors are almost certainly hereditary in nature - and not smoking related. Some doctors can be criminally biased when it comes to smoking - seriously, they'll just write you off the second they hear of your smoking status. If you want the real truth about your condition - get a second opinion from another doctor and, this time, DON'T tell them that you smoked. |

The lung cancer after 1 year of smoking was just an example, the point i was making is everyones bodies react differently and it's like a gamble wether you will get sick or not.
You could be right about it not being smoking that caused it, maybe this would have happened to me anyway, but one thing is certain, the smoking caused it to happen early.
Now i was healthy before i started so it was only natural for me to blame the smoking, whatever the case i am now too sick to do anything with my life and i still blame smoking for that. |

You're not too sick to get to the bottom of what's really causing your health problems and doing something about it. Being so invested into believing it's got to be in some way, shape or form about smoking is stopping you from considering (and productively attacking) much more likely causes. Stop being so brainwashed.
According to you, you have one partially blocked artery. How is that making you too sick to do anything with your very young life? There are plenty of natural remedies for this type of problem, and there's also stents and by-pass operations that would clear the whole thing up immediately. You need a new doctor and a new, much more educated and empowered attitude to get past your health problems. Forget the smoking. The guilt you feel about that is imposed on you by people who have an agenda - and it ain't an agenda that has your best interests at heart.
You are 23 years old, with a blocked artery. Get your cholesterol checked, review your family history for heart problems, exercise - lightly at least, overhaul your diet, and most importantly...stop worrying. You will heal. At 23, and with your light smoking history, there is no way in the world that your problems could be smoking related. Really, you are wasting your time with that false belief. |

How does this Work??? They do Not want you to smoke around the children?? But they JACK UP the FOOD prices so Your children starve but somehow that's acceptable???? Hmm! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 424156
not only that, but look at the shit they put in food that IS FOR our children. the food they sell us is PURE SHIT! not to mention all the chemicals in everything else we use to live from every day. take a look at the ingredients in anything you use for your kid, even lotion and baby bath. you cant even pronouce them!!
they need to also ban people driving with cell phones. everytime i get pissed about someones driving, and i finally get to pass them, they are too busy gabbing on their phone to realize they just about killed 10 people.
i understand cig smoke may not be good for kids, but come on. for years people have smoked around kids, and people are living longer than ever!!!! most of our grandparents smoked themselves since they were 7 or 8 years old! how come most of the people i know with or who have had cancer have never smoked?!?!?!?

p.s. they just passed this no smoking in your car in maine a few months ago too. "I'm just like you...just not as cool"

That's sick.
People should be able to smoke wherever they want.
Hell, not so long ago smoking was allowed in hospitals.
Let's go back to those days. Quoting: Mister Obvious
You lost a few points with that one. |

Frankly 250 is not enough should be more like 1000.
Hell, smoking in front of kids in a sealed car should get you a night in the Slammer. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 392006
