Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
cancer is just a lump cells. perhaps if a person had a serious melanoma which had become infected, an infectous smell might eminate from the wound. a person's smell has more to do with diet than anything else. most white middle aged guys smell like fried onions, alot like a cheessteak.

doesn't mean they have cancer.

Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
My husband had surgery for prostate cancer 6 years ago. It was discovered during a routine physical. Doctor said if there was a secondary cancer it would most likely be bone cancer.
The last 2 years my husband has had serious back pain sometimes radiating into the legs. He refuses to see a doctor, says that if he is dying he does not want to know.
In the meantime over the last 3 or 4 months he has developed a sickening sweet body odour. I beleive he has cancer but he refuses to talk about it, see a doctor or anything. He gets very angry when I say anything.

Sickening sweet would be my description. Can anyone advise. I know he should see a doctor but he will not.
Does anyone recognize this scenario?

Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
Yes cancer can change body odor. I have two people in my life with the disease and it is always an indicator of the cancer cells flaring up.

Both of them have chosen the alternative route of treatment as opposed to allopathic . I would suggest a physical and blood work up however if cancer is found investigate the natural treatment path. Those in my life who are living took this avenue, those that trusted doctors are no longer with me.

Great info can be found, cancer tutor.com, healingcancernaturally.com,faxseedoil2groups@yahoo.com, the work of Johanna Budwig, and Rene Essiac.

And if he has no interest in finding out one way or another you can incorporate Essiac tea into his diet as a preventative. As well as some aspect of flaxseed oil. Both of these can be used in conjunction with any course of treatment.

I hope you have no need for this information however....
?Really?

Can you like.. describe this scent that you are sensing.. please?
 Quoting:

Ok, I will try to describe it. It's like a "very strong" smelling "sour milk" type of smell. It's hard to describe.
 Quoting: Concerned 456627

I've smelled diabetics that smell like that. Like vinegar...harsh...almost like urine in some cases.

Yes, I've smelled cancer, and it smells like death. I don't know how to explain it, but there is a very old smell, like walking into an old dusty house, with an added well,...I can only explain it as a smell of dead skin.

Lot's of things can change a person's smell.

Fear produces a harsh chemical smell.

The late Joe Vialls said that you can test for cancer with a home pregnancy test. The pregnancy kits test for human growth hormone, which goes into over drive when one has cancer too.

Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
4 years ago my husband's breath was horrible - I couldn't even face him at night when we slept because of the odor - he not only brushed his teeth, he used peroxide, then brushed, flossed, water pic and then mouthwash - so it definitely wasn't from lack of hygiene - he went to the doctor - just for a checkup - turned out he had prostate cancer. I didn't really put it together at all - however after his surgery to remove his prostate - I noticed his breath was fine. He hadn't changed how he took care of his teeth at all...

Now I have been spending time at my mother’s - all of a sudden her house has an odor I can hardly stand House is clean, she is clean - but the smell is awful. My husband was there and couldn't smell anything. She has had cancer twice - and I am concerned she has it again. It isn't to me a sickly sweet smell though - I can't even describe it - but it makes me want to gag...

Anyone else have that experience?

Has he recently done any type of low carb dieting? My husband always smells very odd when he has been low carbing for more than a week. It is a very odd scent that is hard to describe.

YOU got me freaked out! My wife's breath has become horrible, even after mouthwash & brushing. She was a dental assistant constantly brushing her teeth.

ALSO when get really drunk the next day the poo smells sickly sweet like fruit or red licorice which I haven't eaten. Thought liver abuse! My one dog constantly tries to burry his head in my ass, I thought it was attempting to be submissive.

Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
My husband has an odor that smells to me like ammonia, rancid, moldy, gas like. He has had it for years but lately the odor is much stronger than before I'd say for the last few months. I want to tell him to get it checked out, but he'll probably tell me the doctor before didn't think anything was unusual. He does not drink much. Maybe a beer a day. Is not on any special meds or low carb diet. His dog doesn't stick her nose on him to indicate anything. Can't be that our bedroom is leaky gas because when he's out of town and I'm by myself there is no smell, well just my own but not like his at all.

The reason that I ask is because I've noticed lately that my husband has a different type of smell. It's as if his body chemistry has changed or something. I can't really describe the smell, but I'm hoping that one of you know what I'm talking about.
 Quoting: Concerned 456627

Is the smell coming from his pores or breath?

If pores then it could be diabetes.

If breath then it could be cancer (although I think only dogs can notice the smell)

This is slightly different, but check this out:

It's about old people smelling, may not be the same thing, but scientists are researching their chemical changes.

By the way, since your husband has cancer, you might want to get him on yaeyama chlorella supplements. Just a suggestion. Helped me when I had a breast cancer scare.

Re: Does cancer have a certain smell?
for the last decade medical studies have detailed how dogs can detect certain cancers by scent...in other related medical news, babies who are often sick will sometimes emit this certain "sour milk smell" i use it to tell when my kids are sick. i would have him looked at by a doctor. and i agree with another poster, have him pay attention to his body for any anomalies - bowel movements etc. this will help a doctor to diagnose anything that might be amiss.

You have asked an intelligent honest question. I will tell you that when my dad had stomach cancer and not even the doctor yet knew it, I could smell him from across the room, for a month or more before the surgeon discovered the cancer. Sorry to be blunt but this is an honest answer to your question.

It's a fact that animals can detect illness via a persons smell. I'm sure I read somewhere a hospital trained a dog to detect cancer in this way.

My partner suffers from bouts of depression and when he is becoming depressed or is depressed I detect a change in the way he smells. It is kind of like mothballs, an odd "chemical" kind of scent...a little metallic.

This has been going on for years. Once the depression passes, scent is back to normal.

When I had Prostate cancer I noticed a very foul odor from any remaining semen that was left over from sexual contact.

I mentioned this to my proctologist but he had never heard of this from any of his other patients. I believe people and especially men either donot connect the smell with their cancer or just donot report it.

I would have your husband go see a doctor ASAP have a PSA check and/or a colonoscopy.
