Same things happening in the UK too. In my city, they're starting to build huge buildings at a epic rate, yet I still see hundreds of business properties with 'Available for rent,' and other equivalent signs stuck on them, and some of them have been like that for years, right in the centre of town too.

They build 'em but nobody wants 'em.
