Not sure what area you're from, but there sure isn't anything that even remotely resembles a funeral going on around here.
Huge fireworks displays at mulitple locations throughout our city last night.
Festivals statewide
Parades
Face painting
Flags flying high and blowin in the wind.
Block parties & family/friend gatherings
The air is filled with the smell of backyard grills.
Can hear fireworks right now and tons more to come tonight.
Sorry you're having to deal with something that looks like a funeral. |

There are large numbers of families that have been bumped into dire straights of late.. and the numbers are growing. I think that the sky rocketing gas prices sum up the 4th this year.
The people facing layoffs, or that are already unemployed, aren't looking to spend money on something that is the equivalent of burning money. And I would think that all the families could make use of the 10's of millions of civic dollars being used to fund all of those large displays around the states. |

For the youthful, rebellious kids out there, here it is in an abbreviated form: Prior to 1776, we were a colony, part of the British Empire. We didn't agree with the way things were done with us and to us, as a colony, so we left the colony. It took a war to gain our own self governance. We celebrate the victory of that war annually. Whatever we have done with that independence since 1776, is another problem entirely. The Fourth of July, remains a time to celebrate our nation's birth.
We still disagree with England over many things, but we have been able to maintain our close kinship with them over the many years. To those who are so quick to say the USA is crap, would you rather still be a colony? Our freedoms are not as great as they once were but they are greater than those of our nation's dear family in England. Relish the freedoms we have left and enjoy the annual occasion while you can. |
