Rota User ID: 461361 United States 07/03/2008 08:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't know if he was innocent or not but the trial was a farce. They convict the others who actually did it of murder, then they convicted Manson by saying he brainwashed the others and was responsible for them doing it. If manson was responsible then how did they convict the others of murder? Then you have to consider who he killed and were afraid of him....the rich Holloywood crowd. If he had killed a common peasant he would have been parolled 30 years ago. Since its the rich that are afraid of him he has been in jail for over 40 years and counting. Not even close to being parolled. So it matters who you kill. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 462529 United States 07/03/2008 09:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm willing to concede that there doesn't seem to be much evidence that he ever killed anyone with his own two hands. Yet, he clearly did premeditatedly conspire, with malice and forethought, to aid and abet these gorey murders. His crazed plan to try to incite a race war, where he would somehow end up a world leader after the masses killed each other off...yeah...he deserved to be locked up, though maybe he should have been remanded to a mental institution for the criminally insane instead. It disturbs me how many GLP posters hero worship Charlie Manson, and would probably flock to be part of his "family" should he ever manage to get paroled. You fuckers would drink the koolaid and then drink your own piss to get second taste. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 454051 United States 07/03/2008 09:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Charlie is brilliant. He has a genius IQ, but he is definitely insanely brilliant. That is one of the reasons he is so dangerous. Most common criminals don't have the intelligence God gave a gnat. He is a homicidal maniac. He held sway over his followers and convinced them to do the most atrocious acts imaginable. He is obviously STILL convincing some of his innocence. There are people who would follow him today without question and do his bidding. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 452708 United States 07/03/2008 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Manson became well connected in the music business and the Beach Boys stole some of his material without compensating him. While I'm sure Manson had some issues with Terry Melcher and Dennis Wilson over this, and wanted monetary compensation, I don't think he ever intended on violence. Where is the evidence that Manson "ordered" any killings? Somebody show me because I've yet to see it. Then you have to look at who benefited. Reagan had his high profile career boost and Nixon had his wish- the death of "flower power". Suddenly all hippies were potential psychos and LSD caused horrific violence. Manson himself said he was a beatnik, not a hippie. After his arrest, he was not allowed to shave or get a haircut. They made him look the part of a hippie to serve this agenda. Scoff all you want but take the time to hear the man out. Do your own research. The "Manson Family" was a media created farce, pure and simple. Is he innocent? I'd say the odds are he is. At the very least Manson was denied justice because society needed someone to blame. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 453637 Canada 07/03/2008 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In my mind, it was all part of the fear propaganda of the sixties. In the gov'ts mind back then, the terrorists were the "flower children" of the sixties. They were speaking out in ways unheard of and living freely. Think about it. Woodstock was in 69. The Manson murders were in 69. Hendrix and Joplin died in 70 and Morrison died in 71. Jeffrey MacDonald (an army doctor) killed his pregnant wife and daughters and the cover-up included blaming "drug-induced hippies". That was in 1970 as well. It was a HUGE fear campaign to further control. And that's why these stories stick so well in our minds. They were MEANT to be embedded. And remembered with fear. |

After reading what I went there for I started to read "Inside The LC The Strange but Mostly True Story of Laurel Canyon and the Birth of the Hippie Generation" I didn't stop until I read every section. I have ordered his book "Programmed to Kill: The Politics of Serial Murder" - David McGowan I would have never guessed that there was any doubt about Manson's crimes until I read that article. Not only did I find answers for many nagging questions about the 60's I learned things I never expected, not just about Manson, but the entire L.A. music scene and the players involved. I don't know what to say other than this, if he is guilty he and his followers who ended up in prison are far from the only people who belong there. Before any ignoramuses come out of the peanut gallery to chime in with their usual nonsensical drivel, I challenge you to read that set of posts for yourselves. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27180401 Canada 12/18/2012 08:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I read 'Helter Skelter' long time ago through unsubstiantiated rumor someone that did time in a pen said there was a guy there that had been in San Quentin where Manson was and that Manson just totally refuses to deal with the authorities on their terms "unshackled, unapologetic, and unruly" just like the wiki describes him, said he says shit like he'll do it again and stuff like that. Not that it proves anything other than he's so completely nuts he can't even pretend to reform after '27 parole hearings' that could have afforded him freedom. He's thinks he's guilty or at least thats what he wants the world to believe. I think he was born retarded and got a bad hit of acid that cooked what little of his brain there was. Maybe he just doesn't want to be released because he would be a major target for a great many reasons wether he did it or not, or they don't want to set him free for the same reason if he will get killed by some fanatic, kind of like martyrdom, and become an even worse influence than if he stays alive in jail. Maybe he's just saying and doing what he's told to avoid having an 'accident' and following the script because he thinks it serves his own purpose as much as TPTB. |

Seriously though, what's the hype with Manson? Is it just cool to glorify murderers of pregnant women now? Is it because he was exceptionally attractive to you or something? I don't get it. He's pond-dwelling scum to me. |
