Lucky for me, I am also a housewife who has a husband that makes a good living, in a fairly safe sector. My income is extra - yes, it would hurt, but wouldn't kill us....(3 kids off to college - 1 this year, 1 next year, 1 the next) - so yes we would feel it, but then again, we wouldn't be as bad off as a lot of others.........

I can tell you that right now, it sure isn't looking good, and my 'fraud' feelings come back to haunt me. Not that I am a fraud, I am not, but having pulled myself up from nothing, I can clearly remember how it feels to wonder how the next meal was going to materialize. In some strange way, that I can not exactly explain, it makes me feel bad that my husband and I are insulated from what may be about to befall many, many souls.......

Is this how it works?

IndyMac (or any defaulted bank) gets to keep the $500,000,000.00 from the accounts that are over $100,000.00. The banks get to keep the foreclosed homes. The executives get to keep their multimillion dollar (pay/severance) packages. Then, the government steps in and gives the banks billions of taxpayer dollars to keep them in business.

It is obvious who is getting screwed here!

Banking is going to get real ugly here soon. I work as an analyst at a large bank in Ohio and the overall feeling is that the poo will hit the fan shortly.

Many banks are going to need an equity infusion shortly just to make it through the rest of 08. I would recommend that you don’t keep all your eggs in one basket. People feel that since their money is insured through the FDIC that's good enough so they don’t worry about their deposits.

When things start to go south, many will find it difficult at best to get their deposits back.

BOA definitely one. Tried to get 100 dollars out of the atm at BOA today, and it would not allow me to. My checking account balance is more than sufficient to cover, but when I called their 800 number, they gave me a real run around and finally ended up saying that the account info I gave them, My SS, home address and name didn't match their records. When I asked the woman how that could possibly be, she said to go to the bank Monday and ask. I then used my debit card at a local supermarket with no problem, and took 100 dollars of cash. This also happened last Sun. and it was not due to lack of funds. They are up t something. Tomorrow I'm taking all my money out of that bank. Bastards.

The Feds can snoop on you and nail you to the wall if you even dare think about cheating on your income tax but yet they seem to always have trouble seeing trouble in their own back yard.

How is it they can pay people huge salaries to regulate the economy but yet when these kind of things happen they say.....geex, we sure didn't see that coming? If they didn't see it coming then why don't they fire incompentant regulaters? And where is Congress when this country is crumbling? They are no where to be found.

I tell you. There are a lot of people that need to go to prison and many others that need to be fired... immediately. This imcompentance cannot go on forever. Since Bush took office there has been more criminal actions in the coporate world as well as the Government world and no one ever has to pay.
 Quoting: Rota

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
 Quoting: U.S. President Abraham Lincoln

"The financial system... has been turned over to the Federal Reserve Board. That board administers the finance system by authority of... a purely profiteering group. The system is private, conducted for the sole purpose of obtaining the greatest possible profits from the use of the other people's money."
Quoting: Rep. Charles A. Lindberg (R-MN)

"These men are not incompetent or stupid. They are crafty and brilliant… If they were merely stupid, they would occasionally make a mistake in our favour."
Quoting: James Forrestal, U.S. Secretary of Defence

Instead of looking after their own back yards, they have their noses in the back yards of others spreading freedom and democracy while blowing mega billions of dollars on contractors who are using cost plus mindsets to make sure their profits continue to climb. While the sheople look for their enemy of their civilization in the shadows, in plane sight their own who are charged via oath to give them protection are systemically looking the other way, as speculators lie and cheat their way into prosperity, leaving the tax payers on the hook to pay the tab of the clean up bill, when their party finally ends.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

LOOK at this :

[link to globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com]

How can this be? How can the passage of the Bailout Bill find stocks limping awkwardly into the close? Wasn't this supposed to be our finest hour? The desperate resolution to the year-long crisis? Well, the reality we have tried to reveal here in Minyanville is that the Bailout simply will not work.

The credit markets have spoken. And they are saying - no, they have been saying all along - that the $700 billion Bailout Bill is nothing but a gnat attacking a buffalo. There has been an ongoing disconnect between stocks and credit markets for months now and even the action on Monday did little to correct it.

I just paid off a $6200 credit card debt I was putting off as long as possible, knowing the banks were going to fail. Darn it.
Had a court date over it. Had to pay it off before they came after assets.
