Sudden Shivers...Frightening!
Going to bed last night i was suddenly overcome with intense shivering which lasted about 30 minutes. It was as if I was suddenly plunged in icy water - I could't stop shaking!

Bloody frightening, and I have no idea what could have caused it? I'm a healthy guy - haven't had a drink for a week and don't do drugs - has anyone had this before?

btw - temperature was mild (in the mid sixties) and I'm not one that generally feels the cold.

Feel fine now but was pretty shaken up (pun intended!) at the time.

A malfunctioning thyroid, perhaps?

The flu or pneumonia, perhaps?

Or, a spiritual awakening, perhaps?

How do you feel today?

Re: Sudden Shivers...Frightening!
Were you extremely hot at any time during the day?

Sounds like you may have cooled down to quickly and were also dehydrated. I work in the burning hot blazing sun every day and it happens to me quite often.

I read up on this a few day ago, runners can some time develop hypothermia after a long run simply from cooling down to fast.

Next time it hits you like that just walk around a little and it will go away.

Got that just prior to the worst illness I've ever had. Some kind of virus. Rub Vicks on your chest, bundle up, drink lots of fluids and take tylenol. Dengue fever can been like that too. Bone break they call it

Also want to add that for me it can some times take hours for it to happen after being out of the heat.

Re: Sudden Shivers...Frightening!
I don't think it's anything complicated. My body has done that before. No one would tell me why I couldn't stop shivering.

It could simply be your muscles and reflexes are going haywire. Or most likely, it has to do with a neurological reaction.

I feel OK today - spent a lot of it in bed to be honest. a bit of a headache and neck ache but otherwise OK.

I dont think it was dehydration as I drink a lot of water. what was shocking was the suddeness of the shaking and the fact that I couldn't do anything to stop it!

Very weird feeling.

I get the "pee-shivers" whenever I go take a piss. It's an intense shiver that only lasts a couple seconds.

Do girls get this too? What the hell is it??

I don't want to frighten or panic you, but neck pain and headache are symptoms of Menengitis. Of course they are symptoms of lesser things as well, but it is prudent to stay on top of it. If you don't feel better or the pain gets worse, go to ER.

i have had it, violent shivering for about 30 minutes. Everything shaking. Freaked me right out.
It is related to certain changing events that i am not inclined to discuss on here.

Re: Sudden Shivers...Frightening!
I had something similar recently but the shivers were very periodic and the cold chills were more constant. Most likely bacterial but I'm not sure as I can't afford to see a doctor.

The following medical conditions are some of the possible causes of Shivering. There are likely to be other possible causes, so ask your doctor about your symptoms.

* Cold weather
* Feeling cold
* Chills
* Hypothermia
* Cold sweats
* Fever - see the many causes of high fever that may cause shivering.
* Cold sensitivity
* Menopause
* Panic attack - causes people to feel hot and cold flashes (but usually with numerous other symptoms including panic).
* See also causes of chills, temperature sensitivity, cold sweats, hypothermia, fever, high fever
* Other symptoms that might be imprecisely described as "shivering" include:
o Tremor
o Trembling
o Tics
o Twitches
o Spasms

That crossed my mind too. But I'm feeling much better now so if it was Menengitis, it was only a very mild case (if there is such a thing).

I've just been for a five mile walk with my Labrador, so it can't be anything too serious.

Maybe it was HAARP (LOL)

Re: Sudden Shivers...Frightening!
This is crazy. Last night when I was laying in bed out of no where I just started getting cold. I'm usually the type to always be feeling hot. So I layed under my blanket and sheets & I stilled felt cold. I even tried to cuddle up next to my boyfriend and still felt cold. I couldn't stop shaking. I freaked out so I jumped in the hot shower. Finally the coldness was going alway. I was so weird because I couldn't control it. I don;t know.

Look, funny this happens to me from time to time, but when I smoke too much weed. But the weed is not the only factor, there must be something else, for I do not know anyone experiencing this shit.

I have had this happen to me on several occasions. Most often it happens in winter (winters are mild here) but I have found it mostly happens when I undress from warm clothes and get into bed.

I think it is related to your core temperature dropping rapidly.
