Question about military rank
Quote

Ok, so I'm seriously considering joining the Marine Corps. If I tend to like it beyond basic training, realistically how high of a rank can I reach after about 20 years service? I mean, I might as well make it worthwhile and get as high as I can, right?
Please, hippies with cannon fodder insults need not respond.
Thanks.

Depends: If you can't cut it in the Marines they will boot you down to the Army or Navy!

And of course, during combat: the Marines are the first to go in......so you may not make it past "private" to begin with!

Depends on if you can qualify for and complete OCS,20 yrs service as a commissioned officer could get you any where from Major to General depending on your abilities and additional education you get over the course of the years..No OCS and the highest youll get is probably Sergeant Major

Re: Question about military rankQuote

if you are motivated and attach yourself with your comrades through a leadership perspective then you should make gunnery sergeant(E7) at least.
Being in the Navy i'm not for sure. "Lifers" in the Navy can be at least E5 i believe. Also, from a Navy perspective it is best to choose a rate(job) that you know you will be absolutely confident in, in order to make rank quickly, especially if that job is OPEN and then advancement is easily persueable(sp?).
