The disorder gets worse over time, that is, the more unattractive and socially unacceptable personalities start taking up more of the time.
The medical profession usually simply prescribes some pills, which don't help at all.
These folks may eventually become dangerous, so no matter how much they need you, you may have to get away from them to simply survive.
How to put "Humpty-Dumpty Back Together Again"? Perhaps an extremely skilled medical professional or somesuch could do so, but I sure wouldn't advise any amateur efforts, too risky.

I get the impression he's done it before and has a PhD Munchausen's track record like my ex husband, who never did anything to help but exploited the dysfunctions.
