Putin to Meet Bush in Beijing After Missile Warning Aug 8th
Quote

July 21 (Bloomberg) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will meet U.S. President George W. Bush next month after Russia warned it would respond militarily to U.S. plans to deploy a missile-defense system in eastern Europe.

Putin will hold talks with Bush on the sidelines of the Olympic Games' opening ceremonies in Beijing, the Russian prime minister's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said today by telephone in Moscow. The Olympics will open on Aug. 8.

Russia may send military aircraft back to bases in Cuba in response to the U.S. missile-defense plans, Izvestiya reported today, citing an unidentified ``highly placed source.'' The government said on July 8 that it would react with ``military- technical'' means to the U.S. system, which it said threatens Russia's security. Russian leaders threatened to aim nuclear missiles at the planned bases in the Czech Republic and Poland.

``The rhetoric is going to get real hard,'' Pavel Felgenhauer, a Moscow-based independent defense analyst, said by phone. ``Negotiations on the bases will be on hold until new leaders appear in Washington and they figure out what do to.''

Bush, who steps down as president in January, made no progress toward resolving differences on the missile shield during his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the G-8 summit in Japan earlier this month.

`White Swan, Bear'

Izvestiya said both the supersonic Tu-160, a nuclear bomber known as ``White Swan,'' and the strategic bomber Tu-95, known to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as the ``Bear,'' are capable of flying as far as Cuba. Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky said he hadn't read the report and declined comment.

The Czech Republic and the U.S. signed an agreement on July 8 to host a radar tracking station. Interceptor missiles would be based in Poland, which is still in negotiations with the U.S.

The Polish Foreign Ministry today denied talks with the U.S. had broken down over Poland's demands for additional security guarantees in return for housing the base after U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried held talks with Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski this morning.

``Negotiations are definitely continuing,'' said ministry spokesman Piotr Paszkowski by phone.

The U.S. says the system is needed to defend against the threat of missile attack from Iran. Russia insists the U.S. aims to blunt the Russian nuclear capability by building the bases on its borders.

Putin, who was Russia's president for eight years, has retained a powerful role as prime minister since handing the presidency in May to his chosen successor, Medvedev.

This is major news.

Nuclear warheads will most likely be launched from submarines, not ICBM's. That way you only have a few minutes to do something before it all blows up. Even aircraft aren't as useful.

Putin is playing his role. They probably can't trust Medvedev to get it right, still needs some training for the big leagues of global deception. I think Bush and Putin have already decided everything they need to decide, including when to launch. Might be convenient to do it while all the cronies are in China.

Yeah,

It's pretty obvious that they are together in their plans. If people really did dislike each other or threatened each others countries, do you REALLY think they'd meet PRIVATELY to talk NICELY about it??

Nope,

There is this plan that they are a part of. For all we know, Bush is Russian and Putin is American.

Did King George and President Washington (or General Washington) sit down to NICELY work things out??

It's a mute point whether or no they're in "it" together because the plan is meant to go ahead one way or the other

I can but hope that they're not and that Russia keeps the US in check and mate!

this is to funny there is a big difference in us putting defensive missles in chech rep. and russia putting offensive nuke missles in cuba. And dont forget about the bay of pigs in 63 i think, If u think the U.S. will let russia get anything close to cuba ur crazy. the only threat russia has is nuke they know they cant match us in a conventional war neither can china for that matter. China is only a power in china and with nukes neither country has the means to move massive amounts of troops anywhere.

But the real question is why is russia worried about defensive missles? Are they planning a launch somewhere?

Your post is a prime example of why non-Americans see Americans as both arrogant and stupid!

Most just focus on statements like yours and forget the other comments here by Americans that do see your weakness and that other countries have the same rights as you.

While drifting through ORION, I noticed two Blazing Celestial Bodies racing parallel to it`s center, looking as Twin Arrows exiting from an Archers Bow and headed straight for the "Blue Marble" of home. Immediately a vision of Millions of people crying because of the devastation of portions of New York City came to me.

Now there is a PARITY between major countries...

USA is doing nothing else, exept trying to BROKE the parity...

Now USA, Russia, China, France, Britain + few else countries just having real power of OFFENCE in hands and they realizing, that it is impossible to using it...

Situation same, like 5 guys with guns in one room (Earth) and no bulletproofs...

One "smart" guy (USA) decided to cheat others, and make what i called "bulletproof" (it is much CHEAPER to building 3~5000 "defencive" rockets with no nukes, then to build 3-5000 nukes...)

What Russia doing in response - just moving hand with pistol a bit CLOSER to USA to make them understand, that people in Russia are not idiots and realizing possible future effects of making ONE country safe from nuclear attack...

Russia never had any reason for attacking USA first... We (i'm russian) having a huge territory and a lot of resources for life...

So, if any have reasons to starting Global War - it's USA and EUROPE, but not Russia... We need nothing from anybody...

We also not having DUMB HEAD in government, which your (americans) have and better, then i do, know, how much care your government have about your country and INTERNAL problems... Yeah... They spending BILLIONS $ for wars in Iraq and Afganistan in order to investing that money for evolution in CAR-industry and making cars independent from OIL...

SUCH A "SMART" DECISIONS...

Peace.

p.s. i like Obama, but have big doubts, that american business majority would support him...

i hope they know what the fuck they are both doing.

The idea is to create stability not a one sided advantage.
the ICBMs as they were worked great as no side had first strike capability.

But if they fuck things up we will not be advancing to a Type 1 civilization folk's. And its dumb ass Bush's fault.

And it will mean nothing else, exept DECLARING WAR to Russia... Then would follow missles launghes and all of your air-force bases in Europe and Asia would be destroyed... Or even worse - nuclear launches and beginning of the end...

We not shooting out your F-22, when they coming to our coast in Japan...

So, other words, attaking our bombers, just flying to CubaVenesuella - is the same, like attacking your nuclear bunkers, where Minuteman's situating JUST BECAUSE THEY COULD BE LAUNCHED AGAINST US...
