I use one of my 50BMGs for Elk hunting every year it's the best damn Elk gun I know of.
I bet that does knock them down. lmao
So how far is your average hike with a .50 BMG Starret?
My survival rig includes an HK91, a Marlin .22 in a rack on my back pack, and a USP45 in a tactical thigh holster.
If the shit hit the fan I probably would not be able to leave my six inch model 29 behind, I love that gun.
Howdy:
Yea it knocks them down! I use bullets that I've turned on a lathe.
We do PT at aprox. 11,000ft every day and I carry a two gun drag bag on my back a McMillan bolt and a custom 300 Win Mag the run is 5 miles then we go to the pool and play water polo or swim laps.
The rifle is an ancient McMillan bolt action 50BMG rebarreled many times.
I'm 60yo and the youngest of the team so I feel pretty good doing 5 miles I know it isn't much but hey I'm a retiree.
I have a couple of HK 91s and 93s German engineering is fantastic but heavy. Quoting: UD 429528
if you were going out for the real deal, would you still carry a drag bag with weapon(s)? would you also carry a third rifle at the ready?
that would seem like a lot of gear, including medical and nutrition, water, and of course a color tv When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable.

i have never shot one, i checked one out at a gun show, it's one of those, i have everything else so i should buy one of these too guns
i thought it would be fun to try some buckshot through one, i think wolf makes a 410 buckshot that is stacked in a single row When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable.

Honestly I've never been a gun person, but in light of current events it seems like a reasonable direction to take. I'm getting ready to purchase some Items although I can't seem to make up my mind between the MB590 or the Rem870. I've already settled on the SW40VE and I'm thinking about the Taurus Judge.

Wife gets the Yugo under folding AK or any of the other AR15s in the safe and a glock 17
I have about every glock ever made.. but i love the 21. Nothing says lovin like 14 rounds of .45 ACP heh
Also if we are bugging in we can arm the neighborhood with ARs and AKs.. I have quite a few and enough ammo to go with them.
Final line of defense is shotguns and 2 of my favorites.. the Russian RPK and RPD (belt fed) semi autos. Very nice guns and I love to take them out to the range and get looks from all the other people shooting.. lol
Yeah.. Im a gun geek collector type :) |

If you can, go for the Rem870, I own both the mossburg and the Remington and I prefer the rem870. Just shoots better, feels more sturdy and the action is MUCH smoother. |

damn, a gun thread around here is like tossing bread on the beach, out of no where appears a flock of seagulls
just got home from work, read it as fast as i could before i hop in the shower and re read it, hope some gun nuts, errr, enthusiasts are still around
based on what i read, we will have a false flag very soon in Denver Quoting: malu
HAHAHA if you have the location spit it out I'll reply be E-Mail. Don't worry if you get it right we'll break the mini gun out and you can shoot until you're tired. BUT I think you would like some of the other weapons better.
HHHHMMMM I'm a seagull?

If I had to limit myself to one gun I would agree with this. The lowly .22 is probably the single most desirable. My little bolt action tube fed Marlin (which has a place on my back pack specially made for it) will keep every round inside a half inch at fifty yards when I do my part. Two five hundred round bricks in the pack take up little room and guarantee plenty of eats along the trail.
But I do like the comfortable sense of security the HK91 gives one. A little heavy but hell, I'm a big boy. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 464984
Agreed and I have on of those Marlins, great little gun. Second from the top-I refinished it.....

just curios , if a spotter was part of the team, did he carry similar rifles, or select fire battle rifle? When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable.

I've never seriously looked for UD before, but from what he's said in this thread, and a couple other hints from the past, I've got it narrowed down to 2 likely spots. I do have a small advantage, having lived out there real close to where he's at for 13 years. ;) |

Savage: The floating bolt head should make it more accurate out of the box. They have some very nice what I would call semi customs for a good price. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 474088 7/27/2008 12:28 AM | | Re: Survival Guns discussed | Quote | Stay away from the pump shotguns. I know the people stuck in the "good ol days" will cry over that one, but They rattle and they are simply old technology. The beloved "chlachuck" sound people brag about is just as true for any bolt/slide being cycled. Get an autoloader. 1100 or a beretta at best. Load up on slugs, 00, and bird shot and you will be prepared for hunting and protection.
And for the 10/22 guys- great for squirls, but bad for defense. Sure, if you were sniping and able to hit everything in the face. But come on
With that said, the best survival gun is having more than one (one for each type of job).
Get an AK or SKS (and there are no stamped receivers on the SKS, at least those sold in the US). These are good $150 - $400 battle rifles that will not be available forever. 7.62 is far the cheapest going right now, and mags and such are cheap as well. Besides, all of the "freedom fighters" in the Middle East, Africa, China, Russia, and just about every country/continent other than the US could not be wrong.
I envy the guys with the ARs, not all of us have $1000s to spend. Nice though, wish I had one.
The Glock guy is righ on. Out of all of the firearms I own, and have ever owned, my G21 is the best. In fact it is the only gun I have ever considered for self defense. The rest are all SHTF safe queens. |
