Yeah, there is a guy who walks his dog with one up here.

You can make one easily... The arrows have to be long and kind of flexible...

They are powerful and accurate. 50yards or so.

Up here is Alaska and the guy carries it for moose/bear defense. I prefer a 44mag myself...

The silence is a huge advantage with the Atlatl though... If you were throwing heavy enough arrows with good tips they might have some armor piercing capabilities...

I could easily hit a person from 30 yards or so...

But yeah, good idea for a renewable weapon...

The ones I saw were like javelin length ...Maybe six feet if I think about it.

Don't forget to fletch the shafts. It really makes a difference in accuracy.

Another good source of information is any of the Stackpole Books. One that is recommended is, "Survival Wisdom & Know-How". It is a compilation from a variety of sources, particularly NOLS.

Very good information including basics on food loads, how-to's on storage and dehydration, recipes, etc. All geared towards outdoor survival. Most of the food references utilize common off-the-shelf food stuffs. Combined properly will make for a wide variety of meals with little or no preparation.
