You people are idiots, thinking this is a turtle. Probably a fake carcass or a photoshopped photo for viral marketing. But you cannot rule out being real--I have a book which lists large Octopi and Komodo Dragons as mythical beasts; in the same book as the Loch Ness Monster (very old book, dated 1963).
Anyway, I call you idiots because obviously you have no idea of the anatomy of a turtle, rather having the intellect a third-grader when it comes to the subject.
Allow me to elaborate. A Turtle's shell is part of the skin. There is no skin underneath the shell. the Ribs and spine are attached to the shell, as seen here:

One of you posted, and I'm going to quote here:
What if someone peeled him out of his shell?
Alright, this is preposterous. If a Turtle's shell were peeled off, its innards would spill out. If a turtle were squeezed hard enough, its shell would smash and its innards would leak out. If a turtle's head were pulled hard enough, either its neck would break, it's head would give way and come off, or you'd just tear the thing apart.
There is no possible way to separate a turtle from its shell without killing it instantly and violently in the process.
One of you agreed:
I gotta agree....a snapper...:)
Snapping Turtles do not have teeth, or or even teeth-like protrusions on their beaks. Their beaks are just very sharp.

Remember that leaked memo that some circuits had failed in HAARP, and were not discovered for 20mins , while a time loop brought prehistoric beasts to the eastern seaboard?
Maybe one didnt make it back |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 349786 7/30/2008 5:50 AM | | Re: Dead monster washes ashore in Montauk | Quote | Sorry to burst your bubble here, but that's Barflyus Chameleonus.
Typically not sighted until around 2 or 3 AM, the Barflyus can be found at local pubs. They have the uncanny ability to change their appearance to appear as beautiful people of the opposite gender, and make sexual advances towards drunken humans. Copulation between the species is not unheard of.
Scientists hypothesize that Barflyus Chameleonus behave so as to propagate their species and to get free alcoholic beverages. |

What do we see on the picture?
The animal has horns, has hoofed feet, a tale and a monstrous face with fierce teeth, and it has arms with sort of claws that look a bit like fingers.
This is a devil, a demon! |

Something (rodents, crabs) seems to have eaten part of its muzzle revealing the ends of it's jaws and teeth. Not a nice picture. I thought it could have been deliberately killed by some people who didn't want the litter or that it was a stillborn "runt" disposed of in an undesirable way.
There are clowns here that still do that, I live in the country. |

Hard to tell how big it is, with no point of reference. But seems to be something that is deformed or mutated. I would take the darker areas (looks like bruises) as livor mortis. Quoting: OneConsciousness

The creature is some sort of Griffon or bird-like hybrid. Genetics experiments happening on some island out there? (Jurassic park?) |
