You can add Birkenhead in the UK to your map. I hear 'the running engine noise' at night and first thing in the morning. I heared it a couple of years ago but only for a couple of nights. I have heared it for the last couple of nights and first thing. During the day with surrounding noises I do not hear it.

Do you hear or sense the typical symptoms of the hum- low frequency harsh diesel, chronic sound and depending on how bad, vibrations of the floor. Can you hear it in you parked car?

uh, tinnitus = is a ringing or humming in the middle ear, 3 of the smallest bones in the human body are in the middle ear. malus, incus, and stapes. they become stiff and unflexable and flutter, and emit sounds . very common ailment stress poor diet ect ect, can trigger more intensity.

Yah, the part about the mountains actually scared me. When I got out there, I thought it would be beautiful and peaceful, and it was except for that hum. I thought that OMG, this is in my head and work has finally got to me because I work near machines that are screaming every frequency you can think of. There is nothing within at least 40 miles of where we were in the mountains.

... Maybe there is nothing you can actually see within 40 miles but it's doesn't mean that there isn't something there you can't see ... (under ground or in the mountains).

I'm in Melbourne Florida and I get up a few times a week to a constant whirring sound. It's always in the same direction. It sounds like whir- a going higher to low constantly sometimes for over an hour. We have 2 military bases nearby. I have seen an Oval shaped silver ship like object twice in the daytime that stayed still for a while and then just disappeared.

Well at least I now know I'm not the chosen one! This humming thing has been driving me nuts for the past 6 months

Maybe it's a tooth infection,my fillings resonating with the magnetism of the earth or aliens trying to communicate with me somehow. Whatever it is, I'm not interested and want my quiet time back! ;)

First off,.. I'm not a nut case. I have a college degree in Aircraft Science and I have an A&P= (Airframe/Powerplant) license from FAA in Atlanta. Also, doctors have diagnosed me with having perfectly good hearing.

I've been hearing/FEELING this hum/buzz for several years now. It's like a low level, pressurized, whirring, reverberating, hummm that resonates in (or for better analogy) AGAINST and THROUGH my ears and legs-n-feet. Like that of the base everyone feels from that annoying car's stereo somewhere in the neighborhood which you can't detect where it's coming from. It cycles from strong to weak with a quick pause every so many seconds but it's not really a pause. It's just where the hum goes weak to the point of not feeling it. Sometimes there is no pause. It remains a strong to weak hhHHUuumMMMmm.

It can sometimes make me a bit nauseated if I sit in a quiet, small room like the bathroom for a spell.

I've learned to live with it but sometimes it's so strong that I have to leave the house and do chores outside or take a drive.

Thought living within 5 miles of a coal power plant that installed 32 huge cooling fans just about the time I started hearing the "hum" might be the culprit,... "NOT". I visited my sister 150 miles south of me for a few days. She lives in nowhere land. The hum was just as strong. That was in Pearson Ga. for investigation purposes.

I would love to chat with someone that's a true "hearer". PLEASE PM or Mailbox me! I'm not a crackpot. Just want to converse and compare notes with someone that's going through the same thing I am.

Re: What the FUCk is this HUMMing SOund
For the past month or so I have been hearing a very low level humming sound. No one else hears it and I'm starting to wonder WTF is going on. I hear it mostly at night and early morning, because I'm guessing it's the quiet time of the day (night).

This humming is not constant, it sounds like an electric motor trying to cycle. I've turned off all the curcuits in the house so I know it's not from within the house. I can even hear it when I'm out in the woods or at the neighbors house.
It's really starting to bug me out!

And no it's not tinnitus.
 Quoting: bugging out 433091

Sometimes after waking up in the mornings I hear a sound that could be described as that, except its really quiet, not sounding like a motorcycle motor or anything. Sounds like it comes from my window like it could be outside. Idk what it is

Anonymous Coward,

I believe bugging out is comparing the noise to an electric motor that is stuck. Like that of a fan motor if you held the fan blade while the motor hums wanting to be freed. If his experience is like mine? You don't hear it in the sense that it's huming next to you, but in your ears and body.

I would love to talk to someone who is experiencing this hum. I too hear it ALL the time. It NEVER goes away. I have also described it the only way I could as a generator or a big semi truck idling somewhere off in the distance. No one else I know can hear it and I think they are beginning to think I am crazy.

I live in the middle of the woods. There is nothing that I can see that could possibly be causing this noise, especially "since no one else can hear it!"

It is not internal. When I put my hands over my ears I can't hear it in my head. It is something external.

This is my first post on this web sight and I do not know how to interact with you.

Milledgeville; depending on where you live off Rt 49 you are likely being saturated inside your home by low frequency sound waves radiating foo the Atlanta Light or Southern Natural Gas lines south of town. This is the consistent, proven source of almost all hums of the type we are discussing throughout the USA. Go to a site "NPMS Public Viewer" and go to your county, you'll see the info on locations there.

I heard something that was not a hum per say, but a high pitch eeeeeee. The same as what you'd hear during an emergency broadcast, but in a higher pitch.

Happened spontaneously around 3:30pm yesterday.

Southeast Tennessee here.

probably ear problems for me.

It's definitely external.

OMG this hum is making me sick today. I've heard it since 6 am this morning. It is now 10:30 am. God help me! This is effecting my health and relationships with the people I live with.

Re: What the FUCk is this HUMMing SOund
I'm so happy to hear that others are hearing this hum too. My children don't hear it, thank god. I've been hearing it for a year now. I can't sleep unless I have some white noise going on or windows open with loud crickets to drown it out. But, like many others have mentioned, it's the vibration in my ears that are driving me crazy. This needs to be exposed in the media. It's noise pollution and hurting millions. What I've investigated, is that I believe it's from the Smart Meters that have been installed everywhere. I've been experimenting. Friends of mine that refused Smart Meters don't seem to have the sound in their homes. I've sat in them quietly, and I don't hear it their homes. I'm in the process of having the Smart Meter removed where I live, to see if it goes away. You can opt out in CA, unlike many other states. There are so many health complaints with the Smart Meters, it's overwhelming. I believe, sooner than later, all of these cell towers, Smart Meters, cell phones, etc. are going to effect our health. I highly recommend going to the site emfsafety.org. I hope we can get to the bottom of this.

Go see a neurologist, seriously.

Especially if no one else hears it. Audio tone hallucinations can be indicative of brain tumors. Also been told it can happen with radiation poisoning but less sure about that.

To the person who recommended a neurologist. I guess you haven't read the other thousands of posts of people who hear this hum. My 6 year old now says he can hear it. And, My 10 year old's classmate the other day just brought it up and said that she hears this humming noise when she is trying to sleep. What the hell is going on? I'm going to talk to the people with emfsafety.org and see if there are investigations going on. THIS MUST BE BROUGHT OUT INTO THE PUBLIC EYE AND MEDIA. What happened to the right of peace and quiet? I live out in the beautiful country and thought I was going to get away from this when I moved from city. I should just be hearing crickets at night. It vibrates so loud in my ear, I'm going fucking crazy. And it seems to be getting louder this week. We have to fight this shit. I'd rather give up all this technology if it's going to ruin my peace and tranquility.

it was really bad here sep 2nd so bad i went outside looking for it at 4 am in my pajamas because i couldn't sleep for the sound.

i found nothing.

I keep telling myself it must be the interstate i live near, but tonight it is off. i hear the interstate noises but no hum/ repetitive motor grinding sound. i have speculated a neighbor's generator, hvac, truck, etc. it's been going on for at least a couple years now. i just want it to stay stopped.
