Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 433091 United States 07/30/2008 09:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Before you start to think you are completely doo-lally, do you have a mains water supply? Or even a pumped local supply? I ask, because the hum that I have been hearing on and off for years seems to be coming into the house through the water pipes. I suspect there is an electric pump running somewhere in the system, presumably at the water works, and the vibrations from this are being fed down the system and amplified by the walls of the house. The pipes, obviously, are secured by clips to the walls, so there is a very good path for the vibes to follow. Anyway, that is how I explain it to myself, otherwise I'd have torn the house down by now trying to find the source. I still don't really understand why everybody can't hear it. However, due to operating helicopters for many years before ear defenders became compulsory, I do have some frequency deafness and that may be a factor too. Quoting: Merlin 475886Occasionally, the hum is more of a throb and sounds like a large capacity heavy industrial diesel engine running some way off and muffled. Then my water pipe theory starts to go out the window and I do wonder if there is tunneling going on deep down below my home. Specially as there are several large military bases not far away, two of which are known for their heavy security and somewhat secretive goings on. I live in the UK on the edge of Salisbury Plain. I live in rural Appalachia, my water supply is from a well. I have turned off all power (much to my wifes dismay) to the entire house and the hum persisted. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 437715 United States 07/31/2008 12:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For the past month or so I have been hearing a very low level humming sound. No one else hears it and I'm starting to wonder WTF is going on. I hear it mostly at night and early morning, because I'm guessing it's the quiet time of the day (night). Quoting: bugging out 433091This humming is not constant, it sounds like an electric motor trying to cycle. I've turned off all the curcuits in the house so I know it's not from within the house. I can even hear it when I'm out in the woods or at the neighbors house. It's really starting to bug me out! And no it's not tinnitus. I lived in Kremmling, Colorado for several years in the 90s and heard the same thing, always at night and always untraceable. There were odd characters, too, on backroads in the mountains near town, on deserted hiking trails. They definitely looked "military" and were "out of place" in the hiking areas. They were carrying sidearms, but acting too nice , meaning they seemed like they were acting. They encouraged us in a nice way to leave the area. This happened at the same time as the sounds that occurred at night. I rushed out one night to follow the train tracks to the train station but no engines were running. |

I been hearing this sound myself but only for the last few weeks, only near/after midnight and not constant. It's there..then it's gone, then it's back. Reminds me of the really LOW tones they would play during a hearing test. to me it's more like: eeeeeeeeeeee-oooooooooooooooo cycling over and over again when present for me seems to be about 2 seconds for each part making a roughly 4 second pulse cycle. "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against its government." "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of the people." "If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!!!" “…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” "I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson from his death bed regarding his involvement in the passage of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. |

I too have experienced a simular noise a couple of years ago, and at that time I was also going through alot of spiritual experiences and growth. I think the noise was a tuning in to other energys and vibrational frequencies, maybe that it what you to are experiencing. |

Peanuts are not really nuts; they are legumes. Peanuts are difficult to digest and can make one feel sluggish and lethargic in body and mind. Cashew or almond butter is a recommended peanut butter substitute for sandwiches. |

It was going on for a few months and now it stopped about 2 weeks ago. weird. no one has generators around here. California. |

A few years ago I could hear it her in the North west of England. It was driving me mad because my husband couldn't hear it. Then it was reported in the local papers. Nobody knew what it was and from other stories I've read over the years it seems women are more able to hear it than men. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 457869I hear it, too. I can even hear it when I'm out in the woods or at the neighbors house. It's really starting to bug me out! And no it's not tinnitus. I have had the same problem for 3 1/2 years now, but I have kind of gotten used to it. Try a Google search for 'the Taos Hum Sound, New Mexico' or something similar. You will see it's not a new phenomenon, but has been going on for some years now. The sound can be heard every where in the world, ieg. atm. I live in Turkey and I hear it almost every night, and sometimes also in daytime. Sometimes it's so powerful it feels like my head is vibrating, ready to explode, but thanks God it's only seldom that powerful. Recently I went on a trip to my country, Denmark, and there I also could hear it. Aproximately 2 % of all people worldwide seem to be able to hear this very low frequent sound, and you are right indeed, it's not tinitus, as tinitus is described as sounds heard from 1kHz to 6 kHz due to damage in the ears. I've had my ears and my hearing checked twice, and my hearing is perfect, even above normal in both directions of the spectrum. But, and here is the 'spooky' part, it seems this sound is not heard in the 'normal' way, through your ears, but rather in a strange way it appears to impact the hearing nerve cells to the brain directly. If you use hearing protection you can still hear it. And the bad news: there is no known way to get rid of it. Some have descibed it in a poetic way as "The song of the Earth", and others have given more paranormal explanations for it, like "It's ET's trying to communicate something to us". I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse, or maybe neither, all I know is this: Whatever the source is, I'm sure that we will know some day. |
