Beautiful young girl beaten to death for looking Goth

A YOUNG goth has died after she and her lover were savagely beaten by a gang for the way they looked.

Sophie Lancaster, 20, and Robert Maltby, 21, were kicked in the face and head so viciously cops couldn’t tell if they were male or female.

Both fell into comas after the assault in the early hours of Saturday August 11.

Sophie never came round and died yesterday.

Art student Robert, who suffered bleeding on the brain, was well enough to be allowed out of the hospital where he is being treated to visit her on Wednesday.

Their families said Sophie and Robert had faced trouble before because they were Goths who dressed in black.

Both had dyed hair and facial piercings.

They were set upon as they walked through Stubbylee Park in their home town of Bacup, Lancs.

Cops said the unsuspecting couple suffered multiple head and face injuries in the attack, and were rushed to Rochdale Infirmary.

Robert ? described by his family as “disorientated and confused” since the beating ? is now at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.

Student Sophie was eventually transferred to Hope Hospital in Salford, Greater Manchester, where she died.

Her grieving parents, Sylvia and John, said yesterday: “We were proud to know our daughter ? she was funny, kind, loving and brave.

“She was a beautiful girl with a social conscience and values which made her a joy to know.

“Not being able to see her blossom into her full potential, or even to see her smile again, is a tragedy beyond words.”

Police said: “This incident has resulted in the senseless loss of a vibrant young woman.”

Two youths of 17 and three of 15 from Rossendale Valley, Lancs, have been charged with GBH with intent.

The charges will now be reviewed, cops said yesterday.

Two youths are in custody and the others are on bail to appear in court next month.

Is this class hatred, or racial hatred?

As a jaded ex-goth myself, I would say it doesn't surprise me. It's more widespread than it was years ago, but I think the unnecessary hatred is still there. I had the police called on me once when I was walking home from the store, security guards would follow me at the mall, I even had a bottle thrown at my head by some dick driving by. I was even questioned for cheating in a class because I was getting high grades... I guess they didn't expect it.

I just don't get it. There are so many people who can't handle even the slightest bit of differentiation from the "norm", that it shakes them up soooo much and they just turn into rabid animals. Fuck people.

Sentencing in the case was set for April 28, 2008.Both Harris and Herbert were sentenced to life imprisonment with the trial judge recommending that Harris should serve at least 18 years and Herbert at least 16 years.

In his closing remarks the judge described the attack as "feral thuggery" which raised serious questions about the "sort of society which exists in this country". He added: "This was a terrible case which has shocked and outraged all who have heard about it. At least wild animals, when they hunt in packs, have a legitimate reason for so doing, to obtain food. You have none and your behaviour on that night degrades humanity itself."

The three other defendants were also sentenced for their role in the attack. Brothers Joseph and Danny Hulme, and Daniel Mallett, who had all earlier pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent on Mr Maltby, were jailed. Mallett was sentenced to four years and four months, and the Hulme brothers for five years and ten months each.

On June 13th, it was reported that all the defendants were appealing against the sentences set for their convictions

It's a real sad example of what some of the scum roaming our streets are capable of.

Feral is the right word, and it's shocking to think that they can kill people just because they are different to themselves. Any excuse.

I've been subject to intimidation on the streets, I know many others who have experienced the same, along with violence, and other crime such as mugging.

It's disgusting, and rampant.

About time that people realised scociety right now has some major flaws, and we need to change it, before it's too late.
