i'm middle aged. talk to lots of kids who hang with my kids,
ages 16-24. they are almost unable to sit quietly for any amount of time. when they do sit quietly, it is because they have ear plugs in. they are easily distracted.
having a conversation is ridiculous, they cannot continue a train of thought for more than a couple of minutes.
their ability to listen and think is greatly diminished.
they cannot think things through.
when i have asked many of them what they "feel"
about certain things/events, they just shrug and really don't have much to say. they are comfortable with me, so it's not just boredom with the old guy. i do stuff with them.
when i try to discuss mental events, like using intuition,
i get the strangest looks. like, what the f are you talking about.
i try to explain that interior mind events usually require quietness, or at least some reduction of exterior activity.
they just give me that look.

That look, the empty stare... I know it well. I have not pinned it down yet, but... I suspect Television / Culture...

only some have the blank stare

others have eyes and brains that shine so bright
you know they get it and see farther

best time to make them aware is when they are younger
establish the wonder of the mind/brain early

I think you have a good point. Too much tv, cell phone and internet.

I also think that when your diet is not pure, and full of chemicals, and you take prescription and over the counter drugs and vaccinations, and fluoridated water, and junk food, you lose that connection to source.

Also the creative way of thinking is not taught in school anymore.

And people have lost their connection with nature.

And they are too busy with no time to relax.

Almost seems deliberate, doesn't it?

yeah the diet is a big part of it. i cook for the kids and their friends. i try to get them to help, and learn how to prepare/cook their favorite things. not a chance.
my last teen is 18, and so helpless it's not funny.
she says she has the ability and knowledge to cook anything she has seen me do. but when left alone, she always says she could not find anything to eat, so she ate out.
boiling water is out of the question.
frying an egg is too difficult.
making chocolate milk is the only thing i have seen her
"make" in the last several months.

Sounds like you should have started much earlier OP.

Helping starts as young as they are able ... that's how they learn.

I've definately noticed the short attention span of this new generation. There are some who are not like that, but most seem to be completely brainwashed.
The crappy education system and media are working out really well for TPTB.

I always watch the women who are glued to cell phones 24/7 ... I saw one flip open her phone to look for text messages while riding her bike.

I don't date women that do this. If one can't go for a simple bike ride without taking a cell phone along it tells me her attention span is too short and she'd be high mainteinance.

I agree with you on all but especially losing connection with nature. Nature is the best teacher for developing intuition.

I think another problem is experimenting with drugs at a much younger age than other generations.
